Many people cannot agree on whether the European Middle Ages were “Dark Ages” or an “Early Renaissance”. A Dark Age is a time during which a civilization undergoes a decline, while a Renaissance is a new period of growth or activity. Even though there is an equal amount of evidence for both the Dark Ages and the Early Renaissance, some pieces were more effective than others. The European Middle Ages was an Early Renaissance because citizens started to begin new lives as different roles, the feudal system was slowly being forgotten, and the Magna Carta was published.

In the Years between 500 AD to 1450 AD were considered the Middle Ages that started after the Roman Empire fell. During that Time there were crusades, Plagues, warfare, constant killing, and little advancements. People are always in a constant argument about the real label for the Middle ages; some say Age of Faith, the Golden Age, or Age of Feudalism. However the strongest argument for the correct label is the Dark ages.

Just because there is not a lot of documented evidence during a certain time, does that mean that nothing happened? The Middle Ages were once called the Dark Ages because not many events happened, leading some to believe that nothing happened during this point in time. “The Dark Ages” is not an appropriate term to describe The Middle Ages because this time period did not just stop, it simply was a transition between powerful eras in which dramatic events did not occur but smaller beauties flourished such as the arts, music, and literature.

Imagine having to bury your own children. How awful would that be? The Middle Ages were a brutal time that included the bubonic plague, many wars and other horrible things. This period is considered to be one of religion and the Catholic Church, but this was overshadowed by chaos and confusion. The middle ages era is best labeled under “The Dark Ages” and “The Age of Feudalism”. In this time I believe that those labels work the best and are considered the most abundant that happened between 500 and 1400 in Europe. With all that happened then there is also a hand full of information to provide you with. “The dark ages” happened and scared the world. “The age of feudalism” changed our world later on giving us information to well control the world and not let it go into complete anarchy.

The Middle Ages in Europe mark a roughly thousand year period of time, often thought as a dead period. However, it is far from that. The Middle Ages is rather a Golden Age because it made many advancements, withstood harsh conditions, and transmitted older civilizations’ ideas. One reason why I don’t think it is an accurate term is because it is misleading and may make you think that it was just some long-time period where nothing important even took place.
