Zeus Beliefs

Zeus was given the power of thunder and lightning by the Cyclops to help defeat defeat his father in war with the Titans (Nelson 1). This symbol also acted as a threat in some cases. Zeus had to discipline all the gods and goddesses, and the lightning bolt showed punishments were on their way if someone broke a law. His lightning bolt did amazing things for Greek mythology, and is the most powerful symbol he had in my eyes. Along with the lightning bolt, he had other cool tricks and abilities the he could do.

The supreme ruler and king of gods, Zeus, is often mentioned as Jupiter and the sender of thunder, lightning, rain, and wind (Britannica.com). “Zeus was the first of the gods and a very imposing figure. Often referred to as ‘the father of gods and men,’ he is a sky god who controls lightning.” (Britannica.com) Although the god is labeled most powerful and the mightiest of all, he is not perfect. Zeus is known for his promiscuous action. Often times he fell in love with one woman after the other and attempted to disguise his infidelity from his wife. Zeus left no woman behind in his crazy love-life, the god married and had children with his sister, Hera and. Hera was not Zeus’ only siblings. He also had two brothers, Poseidon and Hades and another sister named Hestia. His parents are known as Cronus and Rhea. Zeus was not just handed the title “god of the sky,” instead him and his two brothers drew lots. The sea was given to Poseidon, the underworld to Hades, and Zeus was named lord of the sky, rain god, and cloud gatherer. The eagle is considered sacred to this god. Zeus also treasures the oak tree. It is often told that the gods will was revealed by the rustling of the oak tree. (Hamilton 27)

Athena is fierce and brave; She is smart, somewhat ruthless, but she was praised by all. Athena took part in many wars and also fought in the Trojan War. She is “The Goddess of War”, so she is Ares counterpart. She is smart, she invents many things, like the flute, trumpet, the chariot, and much more. She is praised by many because of her “compassion and generosity.” to her followers.

Hera, he had countless affairs and many children. His father, who he overthrew, was Cronos, and his mother was Rheas. He had five siblings, Poseidon and Hades, who he divided the realms with, Demeter, Hera, and Hestia. He was married to his sister, Hera, and had four children with her, Ares, Eileithyia, Hebe, Enyo, Eris, Angelos, and Hephaestus. Other gods that he had children with were Demeter, who gave birth to Persephone; Dione, who gave birth to Aphrodite; Eurynome, who gave birth to the Charities (Aglaea, Euphrosyne, and Thalia), and 23 other gods who bore him around 35 other children. While he had many affairs with gods, he had even more with mortals. A few of the many were Electra, who gave birth to Dardanus, Harmonia, and Iasius; Europa who gave birth to Minos, Rhadamanthys, Alagonia, Carnus, Dodon, and Sarpedon; and Leda, who gave birth to Polydeuces and Helen. He had another 43 affairs with mortals, and at least 54 other children with

Athena and Ares share many common characteristics and many differences. One major similarity is that they are both deities who’s realm of power deals with warfare. The difference in this, though, is that Ares is a god of brutal and simple warfare. He is sometimes even known simply as a butcher, and the Greeks did not respect him as much as Athena. Athena, on the contrary, is a goddess of strategic warfare, and is very respected because of it. Another similarity they hold is that they are both children of Zeus, although under very different circumstances. Ares had a normal birth, whereas Athena was born out of Zeus’ skull after Zeus had swallowed Athena’s pregnant mother.

Ares was the god of war and combat (and an olympian) god during the ancient Greek time period. His parents were Zeus and Hera. In greek art, Ares lacked distinctive traits. In greek art, he was either a bearded warrior always ready for battle or he was naked, had no facial hair, and carried a helmet and a spear. Although Ares is known as the god of war, he was not a good fighter and lost majority of his battles, especially against his step sister Athena. Ares loved to cause chaos and destruction.

Why Hermes? Hermes is the messenger to the gods, his Roman name is Mercury. Hermes is the god of commerce, cunning, the inventor of the alphabet, numbers, astronomy, music, the art of fighting, gymnastics, measures, weights, and more. He sends nice sleep, creates dreams, is the traveler of the dead, the protector of travelers, the giver of fame and luck, the protector of animals, and many more things. As god he is immortal.

Zeus is the god of the sky and ruler of the olympian gods. One of zeus famous powers is the ability to throw lightning bolts. His other power was that he controlled the weather causing rain and huge storms. Zeus symbols are the thunderbolts, the eagle, the bull and the oak tree. He had other relationships with other gods/goddess.

Zeus was the supreme god and ruler of Olympus. He was known by many names: Lord of the Sky, the Rain-god, the Cloud-gatherer, and Zeus the Thunderer. Zeus was the sixth child born to Cronus and Rhea behind Poseidon, Hades, Hestia, Dementer, and Hera. The high soaring eagle was sacred to him, and to the Romans he was known as Jupiter. Zeus was a strong, mighty, awesome, glorious, and wise god. Although, he was very foolish and naïve with hiding his love affairs from Hera.

Zeus is the Greek god of the sky and ruler of the Olympians. Zeus overthrew his father, Cronus, then drew lots with his brothers in order to decide who would succeed their father on the throne. Zeus was the winner of the draw and became the almighty ruler of the gods, as well became the lord of the sky and rain. Zeus was one who was easily angered which was not a good thing sometimes.. He also easily fell in love and had affairs with various women. Some of the abilities he possessed was the ability to throw lightning bolts. He had a winged horse called a Pegasus which carried his lightning bolts and he had trained an eagle to retrieve his lightning bolts.

Zeus is one of the most commonly known Greek gods. Zeus is also called Jupiter & Dias. Zeus is known for the god of the sky and the king of the gods. He was married to Hera but had many affairs when he was with her. One of his weapons were a thunderbolt ,which he used to throw at people to displeased or defined him.

Hermes was one of the 12 Olympian Gods and was god of trade, thieves, travelers, sports, athletes, and border crossings, guide to the Underworld. He was the second youngest Olympian god and was the son of Zeus and Maia, one of the seven Pleiades and daughter of the Titan Atlas. As the god of boundaries and transitions, Hermes was known to be quick and cunning and had the ability to freely move between the mortal and divine worlds. It is this skill that made him a luck-bringing messenger to the gods and intercessor between mortals and the divine.

Poseidon was the protector of the sea and all that it entails. His weapon was a trident and with it he could destroy any object, cause earthquakes, and create massive storms. He was known as the second most powerful god. Hestia, was the goddess of the hearth, or also known as the embodiment of the home. Hera ruled over marriage and family. She later became Zeus ' wife and got the title of the queen of the gods. Hades, god

In Greek culture, Poseidon was a very powerful god. His most important tributes was his power over the sea and he could make mighty Earthquakes. There are many symbols of him, such as his trident, dolphins, fish, and bulls. Although he was a very bad tempered god he made many contributions to the earth.

Ares the Greek god of War, also famous to the Romans under the name Mars, was actually disliked by many. While the Romans saw him as glorious, the Greeks thought he was from Thrace, where rude, fierce people live. Ares is only really associated with war, it is said he does not have a distinct personality like the other gods, but he still has a lot written about him. With debated family relations, myths that explain his character, and interesting sacred animals, Ares is popular for someone who isn’t very popular.
