World war 1 was known as the end of all wars, the great war and a total war that started on July 28, 1914, and ended on November 11, 1918. World war 1 caused everyone to revolve, increase in new technology, civilians, rations, war bonds, and funding the war. Throughout World War 1 there were destructions in nations which involved people dying, roads being destroyed and contributed to many soldiers facing hunger and injuries. The assassination of Archduke Franz Ferdinand of Austria-Hungary is what caused World War 1 to commence. Therefore, World War 1 was pervaded with the presence of destruction contributing to the misfortune of civilians, and the involvement of propaganda which established the war to be a total war.

Militarism began and the nation started building a bigger, smarter and faster armed forces. Alliances were formed; the agreement of two of more nations trusted one another. Nationalism also became very popular. Men and women were developing more pride within America. To preface it, during this time the major powers of Europe were organized into two major alliances: The Triple Entente and the Triple Alliance. World War I was the result of several years of constant increasing tensions in Europe. This was because of old ideas and beliefs saturated across the world's nations at the time. The main ingredients that sent the world into war were militarism, nationalism, and imperialism. These factors, next to a strict alliance system, only needed a spark to place the continent on the short road to war. This “spark” came on July 28, 1914, when Gavrilo Princip assassinated Archduke Franz Ferdinand in Sarajevo. As a result, Austria-Hungary issued the July Ultimatum to Serbia which made demands that no nation would accept. The Serbian refusal activated the alliance system which made Russia mobilize to aid Serbia within a short matter of weeks. The people most depressed was the losing side because if found out you helped the enemy, you would be either killed or imprisoned.
