Looking back in my life, I was nowhere perfect in anything. This goes the same for everyone as it takes an active effort to accomplish anything one desires in this reality. However, this is where my story deviates from the normal linear progression as my story involves strenuous tasks that managed to define my work ethics and my writing capabilities. At the same time, exposing my impotency to deal with literacy. Going on this long journey called life, I was able to explore myself and the things I wanted to improve upon. Sitting at the dining room table, I wrote for what seemed like hours under the glow of a fluorescent ceiling fan. I desperately yearned for the end of this never-ending torture to end. Unfortunately for me, the fact that I was only nine years and that my cousin tutor was over 5 years older than me did not help win my case. My case would not reach a conclusion until well into the night usually around the time of 7 or 8 PM. During which I would be doing a bunch of exercises involving reading and writing based mostly on books including Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone, Holes, and Among the Hidden. Through the work on discussions, readings, and writings on these books, it was here that I hone my skills to have persistency in my work ethics. Along with becoming more time consciousness when I am doing my work because during that time I learned to value the value of every second of a short two-minute break. Everybody has many experiences when growing up. We absorb an amazing amount of information and learn many skills in that time. During this time, our skills develop, and we may succeed in some areas or be unsuccessful in others. This idea could be applied to myself, which includes the ability to properly speak, a struggle with writing, and a surprising success in reading.
Everyone on the planet has a goal set in life, but only a handful attempt to improve to obtain their goal by studying the subject their goal is in. In my English class, English 101 this quarter I was astonished by how much I had progressed as a writer sharpening my writing skills and also learned a lot about writing that I hadn’t learned before. In my writing portfolio for this quarter I had to write an autobiography essay, a research essay, and this reflection essay to develop my writing skills better. The writing assignments were fun to do because it challenged me to work on essays of different styles that were new to me. The essay assignments helped me grow as a better writer that gave me the self-confidence and skills to take on the world on my own.
Values and ethics are essential in the workplace. It establishes how a company is run and remains profitable. Leaders are the key to demonstrating and creating the organization’s culture, ethics and values. It has to start at the top of the organization including the Chief Executive officer, board and owners. Leaders’ internalization and manifestation of the values in how they operate have a great influence on the employees. We want all employees to feel they can speak with any member of management, without risk or fear of loosing their jobs, if they feel uncomfortable about something they are asked to do here. Also, all employees need to keep their eyes and hears opened for illegal and unethical behaviors. Have you ever been given an assignment where you say to yourself, “how the heck am I going to do this?” or maybe, “what am I supposed to write about?” Well that’s exactly how I felt, thought, and did with this writing journey. Coming up with something to say about my writing journey has been difficult. I would be bold enough to say nearly impossible. So impossible it’s like trying to get a camel through the eye of a needle. Okay that might be an exaggeration, but it has been difficult. The idea that I have a writing journey I understand. Ethical and unethical situations occur on a daily basis and are seen all around us. Being ethical requires one to take responsibility for their actions and doing what is right in any given circumstance. Every person has the power to dictate their actions on how they are going to handle any situation they are put in. I have experienced numerous amounts of situations that have tested my ethical behavior and actions. Writing has always been something I dread. It’s weird because I love talking and telling stories, but the moment I have to write it all down on paper, I become frantic. It’s almost as if a horse race just begun in my mind, with hundreds of horses, or words, running through my mind, unable to place them in chronological order.
