Ideas and theories are passed down from one generation to the next; whether it be genetic or from teachings that the elders have instilled in the youth. My family instilled a strong work ethic from the time I was born. The work ethic they have placed in my mind has influence how I approach sports, from playing to now coaching, and even my major. Baseball was my first love. There was nothing I loved more than going to my brother’s Ohio State baseball games when I was younger. The sights, the sounds, there was nothing better. Luckily, I have an amazing mentor and a business model to follow. My grandfather Jerry McClain, dropped out of high school when he was only a freshman; back in the 1940s, this was customary. Self-taught in business, my grandfather built a construction company from the ground into a multi-million-dollar family business. My Grandfather’s inability to settle, when he knew that he could become successful, has made me passionate about my career. Being an architectural engineering major, it will pay dividends having someone in my family who I can go to for advice in the construction field. When I was planning on attending Baldwin Wallace University last summer, I was planning on majoring in Sports Management. A career field where I knew I could do enough just to get by; not really wanting to enter the field for a career. I quickly snapped myself back to reality and saw that I could succeed in Architecture. Online Architecture programs such as: Google Sketch up, CAD, and Revit, are very difficult to use and to master. I had to sit down for hours just to figure out the basics of each program. Though it was extremely frustrating at times, I knew that learning these programs before taking classes with them would benefit me
