Why Is Lying Bad

Lying, something most people say is really bad. Is it actually though. Lying isn't that terrible depending on how it's used. It can be used to get to prevent getting yourself in trouble, to get something that is cool, to keep a relationship, or to even keep a friend. Lying is ok in certain situation

Many may question whether Lying is a good or bad thing. While many believe that lying is used to protect someone, you might be actually do more harm than good. Everybody can lie but it can have a variety of outcomes. Allowing yourself to lie doesn't help anybody. Lying is unjustified because it would cause harm to someone than good and telling the truth can be beneficial and easier.

Lying is only okay sometimes. Sometimes telling a small lie is better than hurting someone. However, if lying becomes a habit, the people around you might start to mistrust you. You should think about the consequences before lying, the outcome will be different if the truth is told. This is why lying is only okay sometimes.

I agree with the fact that lying is NOT okay. BUT, its also okay in certain situations. Most adults lie to their children about multiple things such as: believing there is a Santa, Tooth Fairy, Easter Bunny, etc. Some adults Some children think what they are being told is true

Lying can save you in severe situations such as life or death. Elie lied about his age and said he was eighteen instead of fifteen. “‘Your age?’ he asked, perhaps trying to sound paternal. ‘I'm eighteen.’ My voice was trembling.” (Wiesel 31). Not telling exact information to strangers about yourself can prevent bad things from happening. He told the doctor he was sick so he didn’t have to get his crown taken. His crown could buy him an extra ration of bread and soup, so he decided it’d be smart to keep it. He said he was a farmer because it could save him from being killed immediately. Lying is one of many ways that can help people survive in certain situations.

Lying is known as a bad thing, but sometimes it can be used for good. Dishonesty just depends on how you utilize it. In the story, The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn, by Mark Twain you will see lying happening very often. When Huckleberry Finn lies it is usually for a good purpose. While the king and duke use it for more greedy reasons.

Furthermore, it is justified to lie in order to prevent hurting someone. Most people are familiar with the white lies we tell to avoid an argument or just to make others feel better. Lying can be described as the act of telling an untruth, but just when is it ok to lie? In the articles, “It’s the Truth: Americans Conflicted About Lying,” from Life on NBCNEWS.com, and “Brad Blanton: Honestly, Tell the Truth,” by Barbara Ballinger, it provides evidence that leads me to believe that lying is acceptable when you do it to protect a relationship or someone from a life or death situation.

Almost everybody can agree that lying is wrong, but are there any circumstances that make lying okay? In the book, The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn by Mark Twain, a young boy in the 1840s runs away from home, and floats down the Mississippi River with a runaway slave named Jim. The two undertake a series of adventures meeting lots of new people along the way. Much of the story is developed through the elaborate lies told by Huckleberry, which both shape him as a character and make the reader feel a deeper connection to him. In contrast, the Duke and The King are con artists who take advantage of people to steal their hard earned money for their personal benefit.

Basically, lying is not a good thing to do, but it do not always need to be like that. Judging on something that right or wrong should base on that it is benefit anybody or bother anyone or not. Some people know as “White lie” and “Black lie”. We can state that lying would be the right thing, in case that it benefits to somebody and not bothers others at all. But if not, it can be consider as it is wrong.

First, it is okay to lie when you are trying to protect someone's feelings , and from getting hurting them. What I mean by protecting someone's feelings , it is that you know something that can really hurt them. An example is when you find out something very serious happened to your family so, you lie to your siblings so they do not get worried. Two thirds said it was okay to lie in certain situations. Lying is sometimes justified. Some may feel that lying is never acceptable because it is morally wrong, however, I believe lying is acceptable when it can be used to protect others. Lying can cause harm to people and hurt them. In “Rejecting All Lies” by Sissela Bok, Immanuel Kant states that lying always harms mankind individually.

Is it ever a good thing to lie? What about in serious situations? Nat Hocken in the short story “The Birds” lied to his children for good reasons. A few reasons for this are the following: to keep the children calm, they weren't old enough to understand, and it's Nat’s job as a parent to protect them. For Mat and his family to survive he had to keep his children calm.
