Life is like climbing a steep mountain. Those who stop and give up will fall down, but those who use their failures and setbacks as strength will reach the top of the mountain and succeed. Determination and perseverance are the essential keys to success. There are many mountains in life, some immense, some minuscule, but they are all goals. One of my mountains is soccer. I have had many setbacks doing what I love, playing soccer. One of them is breaking my ankle, and being out of the game for over a year. This experience, even though it was adverse, trained me to never give, never back down. I have been playing soccer since the inexperienced age of three years. As a little kid, I was number one on my team. I would score an unbelievable amount of six goals a game! As of today, I am not the greatest on my team, but I still love to play. Because soccer is my passion, breaking my ankle was so challenging for me. I had to bypass doing what I enjoy most. A gorgeous fall day in fourth grade P.E. class is when it all …show more content…
I was so excited to be a normal kid again. In fact, I was so thrilled, that I didn't even think about soccer. When fall crept up, sign up time was beginning. I had always played soccer, so my parents, instinctively, signed me up. I was willing to play, but for a while, it wasn't the same. I was in a competitive league now and on a new team. I didn't know anyone. September inched by, with me dreading each practice. At the first game, something switched for me. As the ball rested at my feet, I felt the feeling. Ball at my feet, wind in my hair. That feeling is excitement, it´s hope, determination. That feeling is never giving up on your dreams. I knew I was slower, weaker, and way behind everyone else, but I wasn't about to let that stop me. Months of training and skill work later, I was back, but with a new mindset of determination and hard
Growing up in a house with all boys in Drexel Hill, Pennsylvania, I was taught to be tough and injuries were very common but easily shaken off. When it came to sports, I would put all my time and effort into one thing: soccer. Soccer was always a true passion of mine; as a matter of fact, it was more of a lifestyle than just a sport. I would spend weekends traveling around my local area playing the game I loved with people I enjoyed being with. My teammates became like my second family after countless seasons and we did almost everything together off the soccer field. The idea of putting on my jersey and lacing up my cleats was a moment I would not trade for the world and something I would never take for granted.
I have played soccer continuously from age 3 to 18. Four years ago, I tore my right ACL. I endured surgery and 6 months of physical therapy, then almost 2 years later to the day, I was told the same fate again. I had torn the ACL in my left knee this time. Why did this awful injury have to strike me twice? Once again, I endured the months of rehabilitation and soon returned to the field. Having to go through this twice as a teen taught me that perseverance and determination will help you achieve what you want in life. Even though I spent almost 2 years away from the field, I still made every effort to be there for my teammates. Some days I didn’t want to get out of bed because of the pain, I didn’t want to go to therapy, and I wanted to quit.
Soccer is an international sport loved by many for its beauty and emphasis on teamwork. Fans are just as involved as the players, allowing a wide array of people from all over the world to join together in celebration of the best sport in the world. I enjoy the sport because I find the skill, teamwork, and spirit it takes to play the game amazing!
Soccer is the most played sport worldwide, many people love it and I’m one of them, it is my favorite sport because you can improve your skills with your feet, and get a lot of exercise. By writing this essay, I hope that I can provide more information about the sport and maybe convert the people who dislike the sport into fans.
Soccer is my favorite sport, no I don’t watch it on tv, nor do I have a favorite soccer team. So, it all started when I was eight years old I believe I told my mom that I didn’t want to do a certain thing anymore and that I wanted to play a sport a.k.a soccer. She of course told me sure. So she signed me up for soccer a couple of days later. I was so happy I was jumping up and down with excitement. Little did I know that I would love the sport. So, the day of the first soccer practice I was nervous I never done anything with the team and I had these questions running in my head like what if no one likes you here? Or what if you like the sport? Or what if you aren’t even good enough ? but I let these questions slide and I had learned how to play the sport. In that amount of time I thought no more like Challenged myself and said “ Cassie you can do this you are going to be apart of this team and you are going to be the best.” From then on I challenged myself, I practiced almost all the
Everyone has that one special thing. The thing that is comfortable and familiar. The thing that makes every problem, worry, and doubt go away. My thing is soccer. I cannot recall a time in my life where I didn’t have a ball at my feet. Soccer has been a major part of my life ever since I was born. From attending my first soccer game at the young age of one month, playing my first soccer game when I was two years old, and still playing to this day, it is safe to say that soccer has taken over my life.
Growing up, sports never seemed to be my expertise. Dancing my youth away, I never imagined to show passion for such an intrusive contact sport. My friends continued to nag at me saying “You have to try out for the soccer team.” My first year of middle school I stepped out onto the field. Occasionally forgetting to breathe,I focused right on the ball. I started to think to myself that I could get used to this. I mean how bad could it be? What I didn’t realize was I did not have much soccer skills under my belt, but making the team already was an accomplishment. I respected the captains when they talked, and I tried, day after day, to pick up the skills they possessed.
We were all set up on the field ready for the game, I remember closing my eyes forabout a minute before the game started, that minute felt like 10 years, I froze and thought aboutmyself when I was 3 years old and how I first fell in love with the game and how my ultimatedream was to become pro, I remember the hours of pain and suffering I put myself through tobecome the player I was today, I remembered waking up at 4 a.m. on school mornings to go forruns so that I could run longer in games,I remember skipping parties and hanging with friendsso that I could train, I remembered everything, but one thing truly hit me was how much soccerwas there for me growing up my parents argued a lot and when I was feeling sad and lonely Iwould go train at the fields and it would hell my sorrow. Growing up in a household when yourparents are constantly fighting is difficult, but soccer was my out lit it was my therapist. Duringthe time of their divorce I felt like I had no one but soccer so I decided I need to give back to thegame. Soccer did so much for me, so I wanted to prove to it that it wasn't a waste of time andthat I would make something out of the game. I opened my eyes and didn't feel human anymore Ididn't feel in control of my own body the sport had taken over me for the better. I remembermoments when I was running and it didn't even feel like my feet were touching the floor
My season was unfortunately cut short by a demoralizing ACL tear in my other knee. At this point in my life I began to feel depressed and I could not understand why this happened to me, again. I questioned if rehabilitating and continuing to pursue my soccer career was really worth it any more. With immense motivation and encouragement from friends and family, I decided I would continue.
I have always loved soccer, ever since I was small and had just started it, along with kindergarten. Now I was venturing into a new level of soccer: elementary school soccer. For the past year, I had been watching professional soccer, making sure to learn from every important detail that had made those larger than life players so extraordinary, so talented, and so perfect. I wrote down facts, statistics, and formations that seemed to bring them success. I practiced soccer often. For a while, I would practice for an hour or more at home after school, and when it got too cold to go outside, I would go in my garage to juggle and shoot the ball, then up to two hours at a time. I was so excited for the elementary school soccer program and I thought
It all started one day when my parents walked up to me with delightful smiles on their faces and asked, “how would you like to play soccer?” I didn’t know much about the sport at the time. But I’m the type of person who is willing to try new things. So I told them yes and we went out and bought all of the equipment I needed. On the very first practice. I didn’t know how to play or what to do. The league I was in was for really young kids, from ages four to six, So many of us were just being introduced to soccer. Over a few practices I began to understand on the purpose of the game and what I needed to do. Then we had our very first game for many of us. We were so nervous, but when
The whistle screeched and all of the anxiety that was haunting me, suddenly slipped away. Everything we had been working towards came into play now. My first soccer game was a mix of emotions, I was excited, nervous, hyper, and smiley. It all started on the car ride to the game, it was only a 10 minute ride but it felt more like 10 hours. My parent’s intentions were to be supportive, but I found it annoying. They were telling me to be aggressive and don’t back down but at the same time, have fun. Now I have a greater appreciation for my parents and know they just want the best for me. After what seemed like days, we arrived at Swarner Park, it was a little chilly because the sun was behind the full, fluffy clouds.
One Saturday morning my soccer team, my family, and I got up early for a soccer tournament in Ohio. The first game we played was a team called the Celtics at 8:30. We won 2-0. Then at 3:15 we play a Cincinnati United and the score was 1-3 and we also won. Then during the middle of both of the games, we played a card game called kemps. How to play is each player gets 4 cards and have to get all of the same and do your signal and if the other team sees you then they yell stop kemps and if your teammate sees you then they say kemps and you try to spell the word.
