The author mentions how students who attend college end up making more money than anyone. They make about 60%-70% more than anyone with and without a high school diploma. Drew Faust suggests that college graduates often live a longer life and be successful. For example, be more active and own a home once they are done with their studies. In addition, he remarks on how students’ lives change in perspective and explore, meaning, they will learn different places, languages, and their way thinking. Located in the 14th Edition of The Norton Reader, an article written by Carolina Bird titled “College is a Waste of Time and Money” can be found. In the article Bird argues that though college may be beneficial for a small percentage of students, but for the majority it is a waste of time and money. The benefits of a college degree can rely on many contributing factors, but for some college is simply a waste of time and money. Though most of the sources used in Bird's article are over four decades old, the argument today is still very strong. One example includes the idea that most students believe that college is the best thing for them to do for their future, and therefore they enroll, only to realize they are not happy and drop out. For other students their dream may have always been set on a specific career, putting college into the plan, but following graduation the job market for their degree is scarce. Within these two examples one would find support for the argument that college is a waste of time and money.

College is not very much for everyone and doesn't have to be. College is not worth it because parents tend to put too much pressure on their children, it is very costly, and tends to takes up a lot of our time.

At high school we are taught that going to college is one of the greatest decision we must take. There are those that think otherwise. I for one lean more toward not going for college. A recent argument has surfaced that challenges the idea of whether or not having a college education is worth it. However, there are individuals that do not support college. As a high school senior, I am thinking about my plans after high school. I am going to a public four year university.
