Decent Essays

Titanic is one of the most famous ships in history. It is famous for its size and luxury. With it being 882 feet long and 175 feet high, weighing 46,000 tons, it is considered one of the largest ships in the world. It had a sister ship called the Olympic which wasn’t as big as the Titanic but it was pretty big. It also was supposed to have another sister ship made as soon as the Titanic had been on a few voyages, but that never happened. The Olympic and Titanic’s designer was Thomas Andrews. It took 3,000 workers and over three years to build. It had 400 feet of cables running across the deck will send signals of messages for thousands of miles. Almost all of the people onboard the ship didn't even know what had happened until the ship started to sink. The ship had 16 watertight doors down where the boilers were. If the damage from the iceberg was a little closer together the ship would have stay afloat for longer than it did. It would have stayed afloat even if 2 or 3 of the boiler rooms were flooded, but since the damage was so spread out, 6 of the front rooms were filled so that meant it was going to sink. In February 2015, researchers went back to the wreckage sight to find that piece. The only problem was when they went back out, there was a hurricane warning in the area, so they had to get out of there as soon as possible. There was one more problem added to the list, their camera was stuck on a piece of Titanic. They would either have to cut the cable and leave the $1 million dollar piece of equipment on the ocean floor, take a piece of the Titanic off its own ship, or somehow figure out how to free it without doing either of those things. One of the men on the ship that was steering it decided he would try and free it, a few minutes later he freed it from it and they were on their way back to the dock. They went back out as soon as the storm ended and searched within a fifteen mile radius and eventually found the piece they were looking
