What Is Revealed About Human Nature ( From Gen 1-2 )?

In Genesis 2:4b-3:24 humanity was shown in humble origins, which allowed man to be created from the earth causing a connection with the earth. Man was given dignity by having the responsibility of naming the animals and also by abiding by God’s rule. Woman was created from man in order to form a connection with him. The connection that man and woman has is intimate.

In the second creation story Gods interest was to find man a partner stating “It is not good that the man should be alone; I will make him a helper as his partner” (Genesis 2:18). God attempted to bring every animal in creation to the man in hopes that they would fit as a good partner but they did not. The LORD than decided to make a creature for man to partner with stating “then he took one of his ribs and closed up its place with flesh. And the rib that the LORD God had taken from the man he made into a woman” (Genesis 2:21-22) Thus making man a fitting partner.

Gen (2) revealed the formation of mankind from the dust of the ground Adam was made to take care of the land. Then God thought man should not be alone and form Eve from one of Adams Rib first to help him take care of the living creatures take care of the earth and obey the laws that were given to them, by being fruitful and multiple the earth as well as taking care everything on earth. (Gen 2)

God said, “Let us make man in out image, after our likeness. And let them have dominion over the fish of the sea and over the birds of the heavens and over the livestock and over all the earth and over every creeping thing that creeps on the earth. So God created man in his own image,in the image of God he created him;male and female he created them.” (Genesis 1:26-27 ESV). As we can see from scripture God created the the heavens and the earth, and then God created man and woman to rule over it.

When reading the Holy Bible many people will question the creation of man. In the book of Genesis, God gives vivid readings of how earth and man came to form. Genesis 1:27 says, "So God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them." God presented us with the first man on earth being created from dust of the ground, which was known to be Adam. Genesis 2:7 states, "And the Lord God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living soul." God took only one out of the seven days to create man leading to the later on creation of woman, who we know as Eve. After the creation of man, God sent man to the Garden of Eden to make sure he was taken care of. The garden consisted of trees that were pleasant to sight, and which were good for food. In the midst of the garden, a tree of life and knowledge of good and evil was present. Once man had arrived, God commanded him to eat of every tree freely, except for the tree of good and evil. In the beginning, God spoke all of creation into existence. From the dust of the ground He formed man, and from the man, He formed woman. After creating man, He looked at all of His creation and said that it was very good (Genesis 1:31). Adam and Eve lived and worked in the beautiful garden of Eden, enjoying all of God’s creations and fellowship with Him. That is, until one day Adam and Even sinned before the Lord by eating the fruit from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil. After this God decides to create woman out of the flesh of Adam’s side, this unifies that they are one (Genesis 2:24). Through this unified bond, this is used to symbolize marriage and what God created as a covenant relationship between man and woman. We also need to remember that God gave Adam one wife, and that they were only to have children together (Genesis 4:1). As we read further we learn of other moral codes God place as well. When Cain killed Abel, God explicitly explained to him that all people are made in God’s image and that murder is sinful (Genesis 2:10). Genesis chapter two delves deeper into the creation of man. Moses gives accounts of the first man, Adam, and how he was formed from the dust of the earth. Adam was alone until Eve was created from the tissue taken from his side. "God created man in his own image," as stated in Genesis chapter one, verse 27. In my reading on the Genesis stories 1-22, I thought something that stands out to me is how God is depicted in comparison to humans in the first story compared to later stories. God creates the world by taking a dark chaos and turns it into a beautiful garden where humans can flourish. In the first genesis story God states after finishing creating the world in seven days that it’s good. “And God saw that this was good” Seven times this text appears implying that God saw everything he made as perfectly good. Genesis also taught us about humankind. Humankind was created to be a relational being and to be a steward. God created humankind to be in relation with God and with each other. God

Genesis 1:27 states, “So God created mankind in His own image, in the image of God He created them; male and female He created them (NIV).” This verse and the surrounding verses explain to us that we were made in the image of God and if we fast forward to Genesis 5:1, it tells us that He made us in the likeness of God. Between the two verses, we come to realize that as humans we were created to be like Him not to be Him. By being created in His image and likeness, we have been given the ability to show love towards others, be faithful and compassionate towards all, have integrity, obtain wisdom and so much more. Being created the way we were is a gift and because of it, we should always show these characteristics in our day-to-day lives. In the future, I hope to plant my own church or become a fulltime missionary. Either way, I will get the chance to use God’s gifts and abilities every day.
