What is professionalism in the context of being a student in a doctor of the physical therapist degree program?
Professional Responsibilities

Professionalism is a characteristic one attainable by a series of conduct that aims towards being the best one can be. This can be reflected by actions such as the way someone talks and walks. The characteristics of a leader would be a perfect example of professionalism. These characteristics are as follows: ethics, responsibility, great habits, desire for knowledge, skills, humbleness, politeness, wisdom, compassion, loyalty, respect and understanding. These are some of the many qualities one must attain towards being professional. The application of these qualities defines the "ism" at the end of professionalism and that for me it indicates the state of being.

It is not a façade one puts on when speaking to clients and take off when interacting with co-workers, family or anyone else. In order to be a genuinely professional student, you have to live by what you preach and treat others the way you want to be treated. A professional student shows respect for everyone without considering social or financial status. Humility is the ability to accept not knowing everything. Therefore, a professional student should have the capacity of listening and accepting advice from anyone. Also a professional student in any type of setting influences people in a positive way. The commitment to lifelong learning is essential and is the basis of being a professional because today's knowledge may not be enough to solve tomorrow's
