Australia became a commonwealth of the British Empire in 1901. It was able to take advantage of its natural resources to rapidly develop its agricultural and manufacturing industries and to make a major contribution to the British effort in World Wars I and II. Now, Australia has a prosperous Western-style capitalist economy, with a per capita GDP at the level of the four dominant West European economies. Rich in natural resources, Australia is a major exporter of agricultural products, minerals, metals, and fossil fuels.
Like the British, Australia is also a system of responsible government. The Government (the Prime Minister and cabinet) is responsible to parliament. This means that at any time, the parliament can remove the Government from office or force it to call an election. However, besides the known differences between both countries such as unlike Australia’s upper house, the UK’s upper house is not elected, in terms of being more democratic, Australian federal elections attracts more attention than British because of Australia’s use of Preferential
It’s hard to define something big as democracy in few short words, but president Abraham Lincoln does it best by defining democracy as a “Government of the people, by the people, for the people” (Bleicherstrasse). The Merriam Webster Dictionary barely scratches the surface of what democracy really means. It tries to define democracy as “a form of government in which people choose leaders by voting, a country ruled by democracy, an organization or situation in which everyone is treated equally and has equal rights”, but democracy is so much more than that. For a government to be considered true democracy it must support these four key elements “A political system for choosing and replacing the government through free and fair elections, the active participation of the people, as citizens, in politics and civic life, protection of the human rights of all citizens, a rule of law, in which the laws and procedures apply equally to all citizens” (Diamond, 2004). If we go by this definition of democracy than America is not consider to be true democracy.
During the late 1700-1800s australia was made up of separate colonies, a country struggling to stay intact, low food supply and numerous convicts entering Australia. Throughout the 1700-1800s sutian reform changes have allowed the thriving development of Australia to be a completed country, such as the wool industry and gold rush.
In the mid 1800’s, Australia was divided into six relatively independent British colonies which, despite similar cultural beliefs and backgrounds, all acted as separate countries. Each colony had established its own legal system (though the Monarch was the head of state for each colony) which had evolved from and was heavily influenced by the British system. When the First Fleet arrived at Sydney Cove in 1788, they brought with them English law which was implemented in early settler times. This action in conjecture with the British background of the colonies led to early Australian law closely mimicking that of Mother England.
Analyze the political, social, and economic continuities and changes in Australia from 1700 AD to the present. While Australia has politically gained independence since the 1700’s, their ethnicities have shifted to create a socially diverse country as they remain closely tied with the rest of the world in regards to global trade. Since Britain used to rule Australia in the 1700’s, Australia since has had revolutions that granted them political independence from a larger ruling body. This provides freedom for all of the inhabitants in Australia from an outside force. In addition to this, the ethnicities of Australia have been allowed to mix with those of the rest of the world as new people join the society of
Australia’s type of government is a constitutional monarchy whose head of state is Queen Elizabeth the second. During its early western history, Australia was a collection of British colonies, therefore, it’s literary, visual and theatrical traditions began with the strong links to the broader traditions of English and Irish literature. Australia's economy is developed and one of the largest mixed market economies in the world.
Settlers arrived in Australia from Southwest Asia at least 40,000 years before Europeans first discovered the continent in the 17th century. Captain James Cook took possession of the eastern coast in the name of Great Britain in 1770 and began to form a territory. By 1829 all the British claimed all of Australia as a British
There is this sense of a shared history in Australia and Australia has a shared history. Firstly, the often silent history of the first peoples, a proud, diverse culture of peoples. The first peoples of Australia, the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, existing on these lands thousands of years. A nation of nomadic peoples living together in harmony with respect to the land through the ancestral guidance of their traditional laws of culture. A culturally rich indigenous community who had their country invaded, their peoples massacred and denied of human and civil rights. Secondly, the documented Australian history. The Europeans, non-indigenous people, who discovered a vast new land with no civilized owners. A diplomatic

The principal reasons the electoral process failed to work as a democratic exercise during the 2016 presidential election are the fundamental flaws of the “winner takes all” system, the implementation of the outdated electoral college, and bipartisanship. These are problems that have affected all presidential elections.
Does the United States adhere to and promote the democratic values upon which it was founded? I say no but sometimes yes. What does democracy even mean? Democracy is a system of government by the whole population or all the eligible members of a state, typically through elected representatives. Where is democracy even mentioned in the declaration of independence? How could that be if we are democracy. Democracy didn't even start in the United States, it started from Greece and comes from two greek words, "demos" (the people) and "kratia" (power or authority). So yes, democracy is a form a form that gives some power too the people, but we can never be sure on when and to which people because of America's history. Why do i say this? I say
Australia’s government design was taken from the British Westminster system after those who originally colonized Australia. A functional, western style democracy, there are a number of minor political parties operating in Australia but the country’s federal politics is an essential 2-party system at present, much like the United States (Our Country, 2015).
