I am so very happy with my experience in taking English 102 with Mr. Kitchen. This course has strengthened my research, writing and presenting skills considerably. I feel that I am now better prepared for future classes and have better skills to re-enter the workforce. My research and writing skills have improved and expanded from where I was at before this course. The three skills I have improved mostly on because of taking English 102 are research, writing and presenting in front of a group. Being able to straighten my research skills I feel is one of the most important aspects that I have learned in this class. I feel this will help me in many ways once I re-enter the workforce. How to research topics, and facts using multiple sources from various types of publications and outlets can be useful in school as well as many different job functions out in the workforce. Even though at times I struggled with in-text citations from experts, I feel I have gotten better using them. I also have learned to present facts to make them more interesting and personal to the reader. …show more content…
I am now more comfortable in the researching, writing and presenting facts in front of a group process due to taking this class. I now have stronger writing skills; which in turn has given me more confidence in future writing and research projects. This class has taught me different ways of looking and ways of conveying my thoughts in writing. Also, how to get my thoughts across to readers to keep them interested and engaged. Being able to convey your thoughts properly in a research paper and daily e-mails and correspondence in the work force is paramount to
As a final point, the 102 writing course helped me improve my writing skills tremendously. Our professor used two techniques in class to help us develop our essays which are Peer reviews and rubrics. Peer reviews gave me an insight of what other people think of what I wrote, and their comments were taken into consideration
I learned to take each paragraph separately and break it down step by step instead of jumping into to the assignment at once. The amount that I have learned throughout this course was surprisingly a lot more information than I expected to learn. I expected to do complete similar work that I did in high school, but this course really expanded my knowledge on writing. I could gather a better understanding for transitions and the proper way to use them. Reading academic articles will now come much easier to me because I understand the language and structure of these articles. Sentence level and organization would be the two biggest things I struggle with when it comes to writing. The skill that is most valuable to me would be starting with body paragraphs and taking them piece by piece, then moving on to write the introduction and thesis statement. This will be very helpful with future writing assignments because it will help me maintain organization and not get
Not only has this course prepared me for English classes in the future, it has also directed me in becoming a more well-rounded student. One major lesson that I learned throughout the course of this class is to always be on top of my homework and finish my work on time. When the professor had explained the importance of coming to class prepared I realized the importance of starting work preemptively. By beginning work ahead of time I am able to read and annotate text far more efficiently. When I had learned how to properly annotate and decipher text, the teachings of my professor had it trickled into other classes. Being prepared for your class is something that is necessary for all college classes. On that day I learned the true importance of planning ahead for essays and prioritizing my time efficiently.
If anything I think my biggest strength, I can take away from this class is my research skills. From the beginning we have always been doing research. Throughout the library days and all the databases we have at our fingertips there was at no point where I felt I couldn’t find information on my topic except
In the course English 101 at Capital Community College I was able to develop my writing very well. I enjoyed my first class at the college level but there are some things that I didn't find favorable. I put forth my best effort most of the semester and it's really shown in my grades. All my major essays have shown progress. Im satisfied with how far i have come as a writer and i do plan to take English 102.
When signing up for class I knew that I had to take an English 101 class. But there was a little bump in the road to having the class. When I got back form winter break I looked at my schugle and saw that there was no English class. So, I went down to the admiration office to speak to my advisor and see if I could get into any English 101 class. Luckily there was one class available that worked with my schugle. Taking English 101 has help developed my reading and writing skills on hobbits of mind, aniotating an article and using ethos, pathos, and logos. When it comes to writing, and reading my weakness is trying to come up with a good thesis. But my strengths are writing an excellent body.
In English 101 there are several aspects of writing that I did not get to explore in high school. In this class we were given freedom to write our stories without harsh guidelines that twisted our creativity. I have learned how to absorb information and transfer it to paper in a style to keep readers engaged. I am able to reflect on my writing process and critique my problems. This class has given me skills that I can put into practice in the future.
Overall, this class has taught me a lot. It has pushed and stretched my writing abilities to the limit, and has helped me grow as a writer. I was able to learn how to construct a strong, valid thesis, do extensive research on a topic, and do a deep analysis on different material. Although this course was a bit tricky for me because I do not care for writing, I feel that this course will help me conquer my writing endeavors in the future.
Since taking this course I have been very honest about my writing abilities. Through this course I have had to come to terms with my strengths and make a real effort to overcome the weaknesses that I have found within my writing styles.
Overall, I learned that writing can help to drive out the negative feelings I have by writing the personal narrative. My favorite assignment was the interview, Keith is such a sweet man and it made him feel good that he helped me get an A. When we did the pear reviews, I learned how to make my research paper better by how the others wrote
I have improved myself in several ways over the course of 16 weeks or so. One of the ways in which this class has helped me improve my grammatical construction and writing skills ability in English language. I have learned how to properly construct a
Mostly because I never quite understood how to write them. Citing in papers was always very confusing to me and it still kind of is. This class has absolutely helped when it comes to writing research papers. I am also not use to using APA format so that was a challenge within itself. The exercises, quizzes, videos and discussions really helped me in great way to better understanding how to cite things in papers. I now know how to cite a quote within the paper as well how to do a reference page like I had to for the past two papers. It feels to finally understand something that you have struggled with for so
I’m taking English 101 not simply because it’s required, but because I truly do need it. I need to strengthening my skills in reading and writing. My goals for this course are to work on strengthening my fluency, structure, grammar, and mechanics in writing. And Also, work on strengthening my reading comprehension.
Overall, I am enjoying the relaxing atmosphere in this class. When I entered this class, my writing was too unorganized and have many grammar problems, but I am happy to point out my mistakes, in order to improve this aspect of my writing. And the reading of this course gave me something to think about my own life, how I should engage in oral conversations with others and how to shape my thoughts and opinions. This course is a very helpful experience to improve writing skills, and I also learned some valuable tools, based on what we did read, how to form my opinion in the future.
I think the most effective part of this class was learning how to pull apart writing to figure out what the writing is trying to get across to their audience. I think by learning to figure out what the thesis of an writing is then it will help you to learn how to study better. This can help you learn how to study better because from a thesis one is able to draw together an outline of writing for what they may be reading. Another thing was to make students write an outline, writing an outline helps one to better organize and focus their writing. I think by writing from an outline it helped me to be a better writer due to fact that i know what i was trying to get across to my prospective audience. It also helped me to better gather together my
