From the start of time, to present day, the only way to achieve almost anything this world is to have an education. But, who decides if you’re properly educated, and where does this education come from? What it means to be educated is perceived differently by everyone. To me, education focuses on the mind. But more specifically, factors and characteristics that shape one’s mind. To be educated means one should have the ability to think critically, show respect, and have a level head while obtaining some overall knowledge. One shouldn’t claim themselves as educated based off their grades, what type of school they attend, or simply just the accumulated knowledge they obtain. Being educated involves the characteristics one obtains and how one uses those characteristics in the real world. One definite, exemplary aspect of education is one’s ability to think critically. To think critically, one must make reasoned judgements that are logical and well thought out. If one is a critical thinker, they will contemplate the reasons for and against doing something before making impulse decisions. By doing this, one makes decisions based on fair assessment, not the basis of their emotions and immediate thought. The misconception that occurs between education and knowledge isn’t rare. Many say that knowledge is knowing many things, but education is understanding many things. One can simply memorize the material, know it, and then receive a one hundred on a test. Whereas an educated person will learn the material to where they understand it and can use what they learned in everyday life. By learning the material and understanding it, that material will be carried on throughout one’s life. This is because when one understands something instead of memorizing it, they will have a long-term memory of that
