Vincent Van Gogh Meaning

Vincent van Gogh battled with psychological and emotional problems beginning at a very young age in his life which eventually led to suicide at the age of 37. Exactly one year before he was born, his mother gave birth to a stillborn child with the same name. Growing up having to see his name and birthday on a headstone caused some real emotional distress is the young artist’s life. Van Gogh had his first mental breakdown after the woman he loved refused to marry him. Afterwards he devoted himself to God and dabbled in ministry for a little while until he refused to take the entrance exams into priesthood because he didn’t like the latin language, and forced to find a new occupation away from preaching. That is when he took up art as a profession. His brother, Theo, sponsored him as he was getting started.

When discussing post-impressionist artists one popular name is Vincent van Gogh. Though he is recognized today for his many vibrant works, he was virtually unknown until shortly after his death. Growing up poor, van Gogh went to work extremely early at his uncle’s Art dealership. There he was able to develop a passion for art. Over the course of the next seven years, he suffered from a traumatic love life that ultimately lead to him dedicating his life to the church. His religious outreach career was short lived before he returned to his lifelong passion of art (1880). The message behind this song and music video is one that everyone can relate too. More than likely, we have all lost someone in our life who we truly loved and cared for. Understanding, coping and accepting death would be so much easier if "Heaven wasn't so far away". We all wish we could go see the person we have lost due to death, but as we know once they are gone, they are gone. The message of this song definitely has an uplifting, subliminal message.

In this response paper the event will be over Vincent Van Gogh. We went over a presentation of him. The presentation was in Art Appreciation Class at RSU. We watched a YouTube video about the starry night song and pictures of his paintings. In the music video by Don McLean Starry Starry night he sings about Van Gogh’s life.

I chose this song because it shows a person who is battling with depression. They try to take cough syrup as a remedy, but each spoonful is just putting the problems off for a short period of time. When I was younger, around the age of five, the song did not have much meaning to me. It was simply another song with a catchy melody. I truly did not understand the point the artist was attempting to get across to the listener through the metaphors in the lyrics. The meaning behind it was alien to me. I would sing the words, but the significance behind the words I sang rung blank in my brain.

When the full song hits your ears you are transported to another world, you are somehow caught between the tensions of what was, what is and what could be. This is a song that doesn’t pretend to be anything else in all of its melancholic sincerity and beauty. Similarly, it authenticates to the honest heart that some things in life are painful and broken and no amount of wishful thinking or positivity will change the past or its heartache. In other words, when life is hard, pretending it’s not, is not an option. Pretending doesn’t work.

Vincent Van Gogh (1853-1890) though he lived more than 120 years ago his art work is still being spoken about and admired, today. Van Gogh inspired many artists including Gauguin, Pissarro, Monet, and Bernard. This contributed to the world of art and inspired other artists.. One of Van Gohs most famous painting was Starry Night.

In my experiences with the song, I’ve gotten the sense of deep thought; the kind of thought one could get from listening to a classic piece most of the time. With this deep thought, I have gotten lots of emotion from this piece. Whether it be from the intended meaning behind the production of the song , or my own personal meaning I have inserted into the song as I listen to it. It gives the mind set to rethink myself, whether it mentally, physically, or emotionally.

Van gogh’s early life, hardships in his career, and death have made him into the influential figure we know him as today.

I feel the song is a good example of a positive way to show appreciation to something you feel really touched or inspired you. I like that Don Mclean was touched enough by the life of Van Gogh to make a beautiful song in dedication to him and all of his art. I agree that the best part of the song to me is when Mclean mentions one of Van Goghs paiting called Starry night, which was one of my favorite

My first interpretation about this song was depressing and initially, I perceived the lyrics as silly. Though I quite liked the music but I thought that the message it gives is basically wrong and lyrics would mislead the people, especially the youth. The

This song is a symbolic masterpiece. With careful analysis, you can pick out so much symbolism and meaning, and that’s why I chose this song. In such a unique way, the artist was able to say how he was feeling, while also keeping the song mysterious and intriguing. The music video also plays a great role in the video by really showing the way the singer feels on the inside.

I think this song makes me have a deeper feeling when listening to the songs audio, and breaking down the words one by one, as it feels like "Blurry face" is always on your back, but you ponder for something greater than what you are going through at the moment. Its supposedly going through what life is going to be like in the future, and can also be a realization that I've been using something such as music as a distraction, and how you can he in awe of what you've been so unconsciously doing and how long it has taken me and other s to realize it.

When I saw the Postman Joseph Roulin painted by a genius artist (Vincent Van Gogh), the confused feeling was running to me. Unbelievably, the man wore the Postman uniform to let Gogh paint his portrait. The figure’s wearing is very different to others European paintings. Most of the European art figures dressed incredible gorgeous. The phenomenon shows that the social consciousness was adamant at that time, more importantly, the social mobility was difficult to execute. Comparing to modern society, people can change their positions through his or her achievements, luck, education and so on, but still have some developed country have the rigid class system, such as Britain.
