(Bowen, 2000.) Although not much insight is given into the awful relationship Mary had with her late husband, there’s is evident that she resents her daughter. Precious became the target of neglect and abuse due to the fact that, her father raped her and her mother instead of protecting her became jealous of her own daughter. Mary intentionally tries to impair her daughter Precious by constantly demoralizing her by telling her that she is ugly, fat and stupid. Mary is fixed on the idea of hurting her physically, emotionally and psychologically. Mary is a constant remind to Precious of how she will be nothing without her. As a result, she internalizes this tension and many aspects of her life suffers. Precious is performing poorly at school, her physical health is bad as she is overly obese and she is a loner in the sense that she makes no effort to befriend anyone. She is constantly worried about what her mother is going to do to her for the day or she is constantly on edge with her mother, not knowing what to
Mother needs to gain an understanding of how substance use affects her ability to parent. Father needs to support mother’s recovery, as well as cooperate with the department. The family’s strengths are their support system and ability to work diligently as a family. Mother has a natural nurturing trait to her baby and the parents have a strong bond tied to their daughter. Parents and foster parent (grandmother) have worked very well with the department. Grandmother has maintained excellent boundaries and has reported to us weekly on how well visits have been. Parents have been very cooperative and both parents receive two drug screens weekly. The department asked that father received weekly drug screens as well, even though father has no drug issue to our knowledge he still cooperated with the department.
Mary was a horrible role model for her two children. She had two sons whose names were Tony and Wes Moore. She partied instead of parenting her children, along with “hiding ” Marijuana in her family's home.On page twenty Mary blatantly lied to her own child’s face. She looked At Wes and said, “Mommy got some bad news about school, and I want to go see some friends
She possessed a vibrant and vivacious personality and spoke her mind freely from childhood; friendly, sharp-witted and outgoing, she made friends easily, however she never hesitated to express to loved ones exactly what or how she thought they should handle a situation. This of course as everyone knew was regardless of her opinion being was solicited or not. This no doubt was the result of growing up as the baby of the family. Mary grew quite accustomed to getting her own way with her older siblings, Marvin and Corinne and growing up, surrounded by a bounty of loving family members; aunts, uncles and cousins.
Following the periods of excitement addiction, she would have depressed moods, staying in bed and complaining of the burden of raising a family and missing out on her chance to be an artist (Glass Castle, p. when they find diamond ring). It would appear to me that, while Mary has her times of trying to do what’s best for her family, she may be suffering from a mental illness, such as bipolar disorder, making choices that are mostly selfish to fulfill her fun and excitement; she also makes very poor financial choices for her family, such as not selling the million-dollar property to feed her family (Glass Castle, pg. Mary wants to borrow money from Eric to buy adjacent land) and not using money from work to stick with a budget so that food and indoor plumbing and coal can be bought (Glass Castle, pg. Mary is teaching and Lori and Jeanette make a budget and ask to hold money). In addition, mental illness is often thought to be genetic, with some syndromes passing through generations. While most of the children in the Walls family eventually become successful adults with seemingly normal lives, Maureen adapts some of the characteristics of her parents, ultimately ending up living a bizarre life of chasing cults and getting locked up in a state hospital (Glass Castle, p. Maureen stabs Mary).
Even thought both were working full time and physically absent most of the time, the difference in their parenting style had influenced their kid’s life in different way. Unlike Joy, who was strict and fixed rules and clear expectations for her son, Mary had a permissive and uninvolved parenting style. Mary did not teach her son much discipline, she was lenient and intervened minimally only when she faced serious problem. She even gave her son unclear message about what is inappropriate, by the role model she played. Especially when Wes found the weed on her closet (59).In the contrary, Joy fixed clear rules at home, like her reaction when Wes punched his sister, she said while talking to her husband,<< Wes, he needs to learn what is acceptable and what is not>>
(Miller 115). Abby’s peer pressure once again shows up and this time it lands on Mary Warren, the only one who is truthful out of the group of girls in this book. Her friends aren’t the best influence on her, Mirgain describes Mary’s friends’ behavior as, “Our social group can exert a negative influence as well, and rather than helping us reach new levels of success, they can hold us back.” (par. 6). Mary is influenced by numerous forms of peer
In the beginning of Pleasantville Mary sue was very popular and selfish, she never did her school so she wasn't very good at school.
It is assumed that Arryel is prostituting. On 11/26/17, Arryel and her brother (Andre) had a physical altercation because he was trying to force her to allow him to care for the children. Andre pushed Arryel against the cabinet. The children witnessed the incident. Then after, Arryel and the children left going to a motel. Arryel went to the motel with JW because her house was not clean. Per Lanette, Arryel told JW that they could go to her house and get in the bed, but decided to go to the motel because it was already paid for. The children did not attend school 11/27/17; however, they did attend school 11/28/17. The paternal grandfather (unknown) picked the children up from school (11/28/17) and returned them to school 11/29/17. The children mentioned that they picked Arryel up from a Dollar General and took her back, but she did not stay with them (11/28/17). Arryel have not been seen since then. The children are scheduled to return home with the paternal grandparents (Pam & unknown grandfather) after school 11/29/17. The basic needs for the children are being met when they are in the grandparent’s
This displays that her being ostracized has forced her to change her views on society and realize not everyone is as nice as they appear. Later on in Mary’s life, her aunt says to Dunny: “Now she remembers so little, and it’s better so, because when she does remember she thinks of Paul” (Davies, 129). This proves that she has continuously been ignoring and forgetting about society for a couple of years. She has isolated herself to avoid conflict and hatred. This alienation Mary has experienced has changed her perception of
On 7-22-15, Brittney took the child to the reporter's home. Joshua (victim) was hit by Brittney, because he had bruises on his bottom, neck and leg that were fresh; the bruises were red and bright purple in color. The reporter has seen Brittney hit Joshua in her presence in the past. Brittney is constantly using meth with needles. Joshua is around Brittney 24/7, and Brittney uses drugs 24/7, so the reporter notes meth is being used in Joshua's presence. Joshua was born with meth in his system. DHS removed him from Brittney's care and placed him with the maternal and paternal grandmother for six months; until Brittney got clean (she never got cleaned). Brittney would drop Joshua off to the reporter's home at 2-3 in the morning, so she could
She says her son was a senior in high school when a teacher decided to “reveal the trump card of failure”. Her son was not doing great in class and she went to talk to his teacher. In the end of the conversation the teacher says that she doesn't move seniors from their seat, she just fails them. Mary in the end understood why the teacher was making this decision because her son is the “youngest, a world-class charmer, did little to develop his intellectual talents”. So when she told her son he was going to fail he started to make his class a priority so he can graduate.
