Diabetes is a metabolic disorder that can affect multiple system of the body that range from the urinary system to the nervous system. The effects of such a diseases can be very detrimental on an individual life. Individuals that develop such a disease require tons of medications, exercise and a very drastic change in diet that might eliminate certain foods. Although there are no cures for such a disease different types of medication can be used ranging from pill form to insulin injections. Diabetes also comes with many negative symptoms that drain the bodies physically and mentally. There are 3 types of diabetes that are very dissimilar when it comes to cause, treatment and symptoms. Awareness for such a disease can be a very important aspect that must be taken in to consideration to avoid the development of this disorder and in this …show more content…
Gestational Diabetes The lasts type of diabetes is gestational diabetes which develops in pregnant women which can eventually, later on, develop into type 2 diabetes if not treated accordingly. Avoidance When it comes to avoiding diabetes, only certain types can be avoided while other types cannot be avoided due to the fact that type 1 diabetes is a disease that is genetically inherited and passed on from parent to offspring thus the only solution to such a disease is to maintain a healthy normal lifestyle in hopes to avoid any complications and negative symptoms, there are many ways a person can change their lifestyle which is discussed farther on in this report under the treatment topic. Furthermore, type 2 and gestational diabetes are developed throughout an individual life time and somewhat inherited due to the fact that individual with relatives with such a disease have a high chance of developing it, but can also still avoid developing. Type
Thesis: The increased knowledge of human health has uncovered the factors related to diabetes and improved the understanding of the types of diabetes so that prevention and treatment is possible for this disease.
The categories of diabetes are Type 1, Type 2, Gestational, and pre-diabetes. However, we will be focusing mainly on Type 2 diabetes. A type 2 diabetic is considered to be insulin resistant, which means that the pancreas produces an insufficient amount of insulin (NIH, 2014). Type 2 diabetes is predominantly seen in middle-aged to older adults; however, it can affect individuals of all ages (NIH, 2014). Individuals that are at risk of developing this disease includes people who are overweight, people who live a sedentary lifestyle, people who consume a poor nutrition, and also people who have a family history of diabetes. Diabetes can be treated by consistently taking the medication, engaging in physical activity, losing weight, and consuming healthier foods. It is also advised for an individual with diabetes to monitor his/her
Some researchers of diabetes believe that Type 1 diabetes is an autoimmune disease wherein the body’s immune system identifies certain cells incorrectly as outside invaders and sets out to destroy them. Those cells happen to be the beta cells in the Pancreas, which are responsible for the production of insulin. Without insulin, the body is not able to refine glucose. There is also a third type of diabetes known as gestational diabetes, occurring only in pregnant women. In fact, 100,000 expectant mothers a year develop this type of diabetes, which usually resolves itself after pregnancy. Some scientists believe that gestational diabetes is triggered by a hungry fetus with a craving for glucose. Gestational diabetes causes macrosomia, aka chubby babies, because the extra glucose in the blood feeds the
There are 3 different types of diabetes mellitus, type 1diabetes mellitus also known as juvenile diabetes mellitus, usually occurs at a much younger and has no successful interventions to prevent this disease. It’s an autoimmune disease in which the persons’ body has ruined their own insulin producing beta cells in their pancreas; therefore they are unable to produce insulin. Type 2 diabetes mellitus is a progressive condition where the cells become insulin resistant and decreased production of insulin by the beta cells. Majority of people with type 2 diabetes mellitus developed the condition because the individual is overweight due to lack of exercise, stress, and/or poor eating habits. Type 2 diabetes mellitus usually appears later on in life compared to type 1 diabetes, which makes type 2 the most common form of diabetes. The last type of diabetes is gestational diabetes which occurs during pregnancy. Gestational diabetes has no known cause, but according to American Diabetes Association (RT 2015), “We don’t know what causes gestational
This article "The Challenge of Type 1 Diabetes Mellitus" is about treatments not only for Type 1 but also for Type 2 diabetes. I picked this article because it explains various topics about Diabetes such as clinical features and pathogenesis, diagnosis, and therapy. It gave a detailed breakdown of the process of what happens with the body that has diabetes, and what current and new treatments will be available to these patients.
Diabetes is little or no ability to move glucose out of the blood into the red blood cells. Nearly 16 million people have diabetes in the United States, which narrows it down to about 1 out of every seventeen people. About 2,150 new cases are diagnosed each day. Many of us do not clearly know what diabetes is and the different categories that it is classified in. The first type of diabetes that will be discussed is type 1 diabetes and steps that can be taken to diagnose diabetes. The second type of diabetes that will be talked about will be type 2 diabetes and how it effects patients. The third type of diabetes is gestational diabetes and how exercise can help control diabetes. This paper discusses type 1
The second type of diabetes is that of non-insulin dependent diabetes, or type two; type two is a disease that has a strong genetic component, but comes into play mostly when a middle to upper aged individual, that is over weight, and their body is unable to keep up with the demands of their body, they can’t meet the insulin demands that their body has; this type of diabetes is treated first and for most with diet and exercise, before a medicine regime becomes a regular part of treatment. The third and final type of diabetes is gestational diabetes, it is a type of diabetes that arises when a woman is pregnant and in the majority of cases resolves itself with the delivery of the baby, though in come cases is can turn into either type one or type two diabetes, but when considered gestation diabetes the treatment of choice is diet and exercise, like in type two
Diabetes is a disease that disturbs the appropriate production of insulin by the human pancreas. The hormone is necessary in the synthesis of the glucose used in the body’s cells. It exists 3common categories of diabetes described as a diabetes type two which is related to the activity of the insulin in the body (for example less insulin is produced). Type one occurs when the body is no longer able to produce insulin and, gestational Diabetes is the one that is related to the pregnancy and can have multiple complications for mom and baby, (Healthy People, 2020).
Diabetes is a problem with the human body which causes blood glucose levels to rise higher than normal. This is also called hyperglycemia. There are three types of diabetes, type 1, type 2 and Gestational diabetes. Type 1 diabetes is usually diagnosed in children and young adults, and was previously known as juvenile diabetes. 5 to 10 out of 100 people who have type 1 diabetes. Type 2 diabetes are formerly called adult onset or non-insulin dependent diabetes, it can develop at any age as well. It most commonly becomes apparent during adulthood. Type 2 diabetes accounts for the vast majority of people who have diabetes that is 90 to 95 out of 100 people. In type 2 diabetes, the body isn 't able to use insulin the right way. Once type 2 diabetes becomes worse, the pancreas may make less and less insulin. This is called insulin deficiency. Gestational diabetes is a common complication of pregnancy. Diabetes is currently among the top five causes of death in most high-income countries and resulted in 4.6 million deaths globally in 2011 (Garcı´a-Pe´rez LE, Alvarez M, Dilla T, Gil-Guille´n V, 2013). Approximately 552 million persons with diabetes in 2030 (SEC, 2014)
Diabetes affects 18.2 million people in the United States. It is often referred to by doctors as diabetes mellitus and described as, “… a metabolic disease in which the person has high blood sugar …” (Collazo- Clavell et all. 2009), either because the insulin is inadequate or the body’s cells don’t respond well to the insulin. The health and economic consequences of diabetes are considerable. The majority of people that have diabetes live in low and middle income countries, where the prevalence of the disease is high. There are three types of diabetes that are called type 1, type 2, and gestational diabetes. Although diabetes is a disorder, it can lead to other diseases such as heart attack, kidney failure or death. A person that has
Diabetes Mellitus(DM) is one of the diseases affecting vast population in the nation. This disease had been a problem since awhile and the populations affected are unimaginably high. Before I proceed, I would give an overview of the disease. DM happens as a result of the body’s inability to produce insulin called for by the system or unable to corporate properly to insulin. Indeed, if the insulin becomes incapacitated with regard to its physiological roles, the blood glucose will geometrically increase leading to diabetes; disruption of the metabolic pathway, and other comorbidities associated with the disease. (Healthy people, 2020). By type, diabetes is compartmentalized into three, namely type 1, type 2, and gestational diabetes. Type 1 diabetes is classified as an autoimmune process caused mainly by genetic factors; the disease occurs when the body is unable to produce insulin. Type 1 diabetes can be managed by administration of daily insulin. Type 2 diabetes is a situation by which the body cannot produce enough insulin called for by the system for proper regulation of blood glucose and physiological balancing of the metabolic processes. Typically, type 2 diabetes can be managed through adjustment to lifestyles, since most of the determinant factors for the disease are buried in lifestyle. Some change in lifestyles, which may yield a substantial positive outcome are eating healthy, exercising, and maintaining of active system(body). Abiding by the lifestyle would abate
Diabetes is a chronic disease that affects the body’s capability to produce or respond to the hormone called insulin. With this happening it causes irregular metabolism of carbohydrates and raise the body’s glucose levels in the urine and the blood. Although diabetes is very disturbing it is also preventable. Diabetes is one of the greatest common diseases of mankind. A lot of people believe that having this disease is ordinary, or even curable. Although it is not perceived to be terminal and contagious such as other feared diseases, diabetes can cause a number of disadvantages if it is not properly managed well.
The general prevention and treatment for diabetes include a healthy diet, doing physical exercises, not smoking tobacco, and controlling one’s blood pressure. However, there are management criteria specific to every type of the condition. Type 1 diabetes is managed by injecting the patient with insulin. Type 2 diabetes is managed through medications which may or may not contain insulin (Winter, 2002). The decision on whether to provide insulin or some oral medications to a type 2 diabetes patient is reached depending on how the patient’s body reacts with the medications. Some medications can cause excessive reduction in blood sugar. Obese patients diagnosed with type 2 diabetes are recommended for weight loss surgery. Gestational diabetes is manages itself after birth. It may only exist as long as a woman not diabetic is pregnant (Lowe, 2001). This means that it ends when the woman delivers. However, during pregnancy, the mother has to seek medication because of the complications that come with gestational diabetes mellitus. Monitoring the pregnant woman’s blood glucose, changes in diet and injection with insulin are also recommendable.
This paper deals about the study of diabetes mellitus, the pathology, types of diabetes, further complications if not controlled and management for the prevention of this disease. Diabetes refers to a set of several different diseases. All types of diabetes result in too much sugar, or glucose, in the blood. To understand why this happens it helps to understand how the body usually works. When you eat, your body breaks down your food into simpler forms such as glucose. The glucose goes into your bloodstream, where it travels to all the cells in your body. Your cells use glucose for energy. Insulin, a hormone made by the pancreas, helps move the glucose from bloodstream to the cells. Pathophysiology of Diabetes Mellitus further explain
Diabetes is a disease that took over 29.1 million people’s lives in 2014, which was over two years ago. That 29.1 million individuals were approximately 9.3% of the populace of the United States, during the year of 2014, as stated by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Diabetes is scientifically referred to as diabetes mellitus, this disease is increasing within the United States at an alarming rate amongst all individuals. Diabetes is a term that defines some diseases which are results of an individual having an issue with insulin, which is a hormone that the pancreas produces (WebMD). The pancreas releases the hormone insulin to assist in the bodies storing of sugars and fats, which the body gets from ingesting foods. Currently diabetes has no known cure, this means that this disease is a permanent one. The only thing that is done is managing the diabetes each individual has and those individuals are required to alter their lives to handle their disease. When it comes to understanding how these individuals must change their lives to handle this disease they must learn and understand it.
