Prime Minister of the United Arab Emirates, Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al-Maktoum, is planning a new megaproject, The Mall of the World. This project will be located in Al Sufouh, Dubai, which is one of the seven emirates that compose the United Arab Emirates. The United Arab Emirates is located in the eastern end of the Arabian Peninsula. It also extends part of the Gulf of Oman and the Persian Gulf on its southern coast. This positioned the country to have bordering countries such as Saudi Arabia to the southwest, Qatar and Iran in the north, and Oman in the east. This enhances the United Arab Emirates trading with neighboring countries which led to a positive effect on the economy. Yet, the sandy and barren city strives to improve their economic standing each and every day. With a population of 9.2 million, the country continues to grow and expand to further their reputation as one of the richest country in the world. One of the most important part of the United Arab Emirates history is their federation being formed in 1971. Specifically, this federation had a huge effect on Dubai. In Dubai becoming part of the seven emirates, there was an increased influence on the city 's development and growth. Even as the city saw an influx in immigrants fleeing from the Lebanese civil war in December 1971, Dubai together with Abu Dhabi, the capital, and 5 other emirates, formed the United Arab Emirates after the formal protector of Britain left the Persian Gulf.
