Principle of practice is effective as it underpins and clarifies the responsibilities outlined in the legislation and guidelines that aids the caring process while providing a safe working environment. Principle of Care is implemented to promote individuality, dignity, protection for both employees and service users while improving quality of life (Ccpdignity.co.uk, 2018).
In the healthcare sector, good practice can only be achieved by enforcing the seven principles of care which are very equivalent to our personal beliefs, values and how we would like to be treated. The principle of support underpins the skills and requirement needed to ensure that the most effective care is provided to service users. Effective communication is imperative whether verbal (speaking) or non-verbal (sign or writing) to build a relationship between service users and families and to overcome obstacles and disable barriers such as cognitive and learning impairment (Skillsforcare.org.uk, 2018). There was a breach of Regulation 9(3)(d)(e) of the Health and Social Care Act 2008 (pages 17 and 18), where ‘a family member clarified this by describing how some staff took the time to engage with people whereas others had no interaction’ and ‘did not see staff engaging with people in a meaningful way. ’
Supporting individual rights focuses on the right to privacy, decision making, autonomy and empowerment (Anon, 2018). This was a breach of Regulation 9(3)(d)(e) of the Health and Social Care Act 2008 (page 18) where service users states ‘I don’t have choices and that makes me feel depressed’ and ‘I don’t handle my own money and I think it is
Within health and social care settings, many principles of support are used such as respecting individuality, rights, choice, privacy, independence, dignity, respect and partnership, equal opportunities; respecting diversity, different cultures and values. All of these principles are to ensure employee’s working with service users promote and respect individuals’ rights.
In this task, I will look at the seven principles of the Care Value Base. The Care Value Base is a Code of Practice which care workers follow and must apply a level of care to service users according to the Care Value Base. I will look at one particular care setting, which will be a hospital, to investigate how they provide a high quality of care according to the Care Value Base. While on work placement at a hospital, I learnt valuable information on how a hospital follows the guidelines of the Care Value Base when caring for service users.
Individual’s rights also need to be promoted in order for holistic support to be provided by professionals. All adults in a health and social care environment such as a care home have rights to their confidentiality, respect, choice and to have their individuality taken into consideration. They also have the right not to be discriminated against, to receive equal and fair treatment and also to have access to the policies and procedures of the health and social care organisation. They should know when and how to make a complaint should they feel there care need are not being met. Children in care settings also have promotion of rights. These individuals should always have the right to be heard and it remain confidential, to have their wishes considered, be provided with stimulating activities and the right to be safe and secure from harm.
These are underpinning principles and values that are used in health and social care settings for practices that are built upon ethical principles and putting the heart of the individual in health and social care in consideration.

My own work is influenced by national factors such and codes of practice, national occupational standards and legislation and government initiatives so that we the best quality of care and support to our clients. It is very important to understand and acknowledge all policies and rules so that you can do your job correctly and professionally. If we didn’t following these codes of practice then the level of care would be poor and people wouldn’t understand or know what good quality of care is.

Every individual has the right to communication as the Human Rights Act (1998) lists the freedom of expression as well as other rights relating to communication. As a support worker I have a moral obligation as well as adhering to the standards, codes of practice, guidelines, morals and law that govern my practice to ensure that communication needs are met. If an individual’s communication needs are not met then all aspects of their daily life can be affected such as not being able to communicate you are well and get help. This could be more severe in the case of abuse whereby the individual can’t communicate
Both me and my employer have duty of care when we deliver care to service users. It is means that we need to follow general rules, policies and procedures. We should accept and promote all the rules included in the General Social Care Council Code of Practice. I also should make sure that I fully understand my role as a care worker, undertake trainings to act in the best interest of the service users.
As humans, we naturally want to care for and be taken care of. According to (McEwen & Wills) concepts are terms that refer to phenomena that occur in nature or in thought. Caring is a concept that everyone can relate to and wants. The term “caring” can be used in relation to nurses, patients, and healthcare facilities.
Jean Watson’s Theory of human caring is based on transpersonal relationships and developing a caring environment that offers the development potential while allowing the person to choose the best course of action. Through interactions with others we learn how to recognize ourselves in others. Watson believes that through these interactions humanity is preserved. John Paley’s article A Slave Morality: Nietzchean themes in nursing ethics criticizes Watson’s theory that caring is central to nursing. The purpose of this paper is to compare and contrast John Paley’s article to Jean Watson’s Commentary on Shattle M (2004)
