Rising to the position of CEO of an established organization is a journey that takes years of commitment, hard work, and consistent learning. Many people view educational achievement as a guarantee to the best work positions, but that is not always the case. Reaching the heights of success is a culmination of efforts, continuous search for excellence through learning, discipline, and persistence. While academic excellence is an important component of success, particularly regarding acquiring relevant knowledge and skill, it is also important to realize that education alone does not guarantee success. Moving from being an information management officer to become the CEO of a top systems management company in the country cannot be attributed solely to strong G.P.A., a bachelor degree, or my MBA. However, these credentials played a significant role in getting an opportunity to work for my success. There may be a variety of theories by different inspiration speakers and mentors on what one needs to do to become successful. While most of what they recommend may be appropriate for different situations, I believe that the beginning of any success is built on a strong desire to excel that leads a person to invest time and resources in a career (Hill, 2001). When the strong desire for success develops to passion, it makes you seek the necessary knowledge and skills to pursue particular goals. We interview the site general manager for a company called Bombardier Transportation. His name is Jeff Gaffney. His official company title is MARC Operations General Manager. Bombardier Transportation is one of two subsidiaries of the company. The other half is Bombardier Aerospace. The parent company is called Bombardier Inc. Bombardier Inc. is headquartered in Montreal Canada. Jeff Gaffney is only involved in the transportation division of the company which is headquartered in Berlin Germany. Bombardier is the leading manufacturer of trains and the third leading manufacturer of planes. The company as a whole has roughly about 72,000 employees with a revenue averaging around $16.8 billion. These numbers are statistics split between the two divisions of the company. As stated before Mr. Gaffney is involved in the transportation division of the company so that is what the interview was primarily about.

For years now, many students have thought “How do I grow up too be successful?” but the truth here is that the people asking this, don't know what success really means to them. Accomplishment can be defined in a variety of ways, such as the amount of money a person makes, how happy an individual is by themselves, or even achieving in the simple things in life. You can, however, gain the characteristics needed to be successful in the future, for example, patience, determination, and a straight mindset. Accidental effects can also come into play, for instance dumb luck that can happen to anybody and the wealth gap between the person or the school they attend. These are just three of the most important traits a scholar must have in order to get somewhere in their future of education and in life down the path they may take.
Success can represent many different aspects of your life. Everyone wants to be able to say when they are old, they were once successful. “So be sure when you step, Step with care and great tact. A person can define their success in their education. Having an education is a privilege to many. “In 2012, the global adult literacy rate was 85 percent, compared to 91 percent for youth aged 15 to 24” (Compass 32). Education is most will work hard to complete. Also, having the privilege to have any type of education, including college can cost thousands of dollars from personal experience. Along with the cost of an education, a college graduate will be required to pay back the loans they have taken out for college. Being a sophomore in college going to a technical college, I am in almost 10 thousand dollars in debt. It is important to work hard while going to college and have a degree. Many jobs now are requiring at least an associate’s degree in your choice of major. What aspect of your education will make you be successful?
The three factors that I would attribute my success thus far to are my grit, mindset, and work-ethics. My grit attributes to me not wanting or allowing myself to fail by letting me do everything humanly possible to succeed. My mindset allow me to stay focus and achieve my goals and not be shaken by any doubt. My work-ethics is my resolve and, it allows to hold more doubts in my work which in turn strengthen my firm mindset. Both, my mindset and work-ethics gives me a reason to have grit to stay determined on my path to becoming an excellent student and achieve my college and career goals.
My definition of success is when I achieve my desired goals. Being successful in college requires me to do a whole lot of planning. Some of the things I will face are having strong motivation and stress management. The motivation depends on me because there is no one to come up to me like they used to do while I was still in school to motivate me. On an Instagram page called 8factapp, I once read that students who tend to do their homework by themselves instead of constantly asking for help get high scores on tests. In order for me to get better grades, I have to learn how to study. Different types of study skills include note taking, memorization, etc.
Some personal goals that have contributed to my academic successare: 1. Set Priorities 2. Develop a Time Management System. 3. Build Self-Confidence.
Career success is something that most individuals set out to accomplish at some point during their life time. Although earning a college degree or a professional certification within a certain field of study is certainly the first step to take towards career success and job fulfillment.
In Phase 1, pre-training, Campbell’s CEO Institute teaches participants about leadership, formulating ideas and experiences and take time to reflect on what they have learned and apply it to all aspects of their lives. As the CEO, Conant was a motivator, “Doug is personally involved in all aspects—developing content, teaching, communicating with class members, and sharing lessons from his more than 30 years in business…….He’s all in. An active instructor, he’s fully present during the entire two-year journey” (Reardon, 2011). The program is developed internally which helps employees can build on their skills. The Institute accepts 20-24 participants per year and they must be nominated by their unit president or functional leader (Newell, 2011).
Someone told me if I am successful, I will be proud in myself. I was success in the education before when I was a little boy. I could remember that moment I was crying and run to my mom’s arms and said “ mom, I can do it ” in that time it was just a little start for a success. You have to make your little challenge first. When you did your goal you will proud in your self. It will be a good start for you, it is a very little step for now but it will be a huge step in the future. As Satya Nadella takes over the position that Mr. Ballmer once endured, his spirit took off with great confidence concerning his new role at the company (Microsoft, 2014). The next decade is likely to reveal the level of success his abilities bring to the future of the company and his own status as leader.
Given the increasing complexity of business and the need to financially quantify risk and opportunities so options are clearly understood while also operating in uncertainty, the progression of CFOs to CEOs will continue to accelerate. Reviewing the two articles How a CFO can graduate to CEO (Brewis, 1999) and Do CFOs really make good CEOs (Picker, 1989) illustrate foundational points to support the contention that CFOs will continue to be promoted and excel in their roles as CEOs.
