Decent Essays

Basketball is a favorite sport to many Americans. It is a sport that takes strength, determination, hand-eye coordination and many other challenging aspects. All of this skill is used to do one thing, put the ball in the hoop. The ball itself is surprisingly very complex and takes a while to be comfortable with it. Helium is a lighter than air gas. It has a 4.00260 atomic mass while air or oxygen has a 15.9994 atomic mass . According to Jefferson Lab editor Thomas Jefferson National Accelerator Facility “Helium, the second most abundant element in the universe, was discovered on the sun before it was found on the earth.” (2017,[online]). Oxygen is one of the most common gas and every living thing needs it to live. “Oxygen is written as …show more content…

crafting the cover of the balls (has synthetic laminated covers and leather covers) , 4. final testing, inspecting, and packing. The process is about a two weeks long and takes a lot of factories to make one ball. The ball comes out of some factories filled with air of. Some balls require manual inflation with a hand pump or foot pump. Kinetic energy is the energy that a body possesses by virtue of being in motion. Everything in motion has kinetic energy. When a basketball hits the ground the kinetic energy travels through the ball and reacts to the pressure causing the ball to bounce. In conclusion a basketball may look sample but it’s is very complex and can be very hard to manage. This project will prove for once and for all if basketballs bounce higher with or without helium. “Kinetic energy is a property of a moving object or particle and depends not only on its motion but also on its mass.” stated britannica editor Erik Gregerson.
