The Mandatory Voting Age

I belive that before se set out to make major changes to the voter laws, such as changing the voter age requirment, new programes should be rolled out in an attempt to increase younger voter turnout fist. For example, use of social media to target younger voters. More political ingagment with a younger age group would help build on itself as polititions engage and take up issues that matter to yonger voters, thus incressing young voter turnout, and thus raising the value of younger voters to polititions seeking ideas and votes to be elected or re-elected. a prime example is how effective it was for Bill Clintons campaign during the 90's when he appealed to young voters by going on "MTV."

Interest groups and lobbyists’ would make assumptions about the voting age. Is voting at eight-teen fair? What would happen if sixteen year olds could vote? Getting people to think about and analyze a problem leads them to get others to think about the same problem which makes the idea grow in popularity.

By lowering the voting age from 18 to 16 some people suggest improvement of voter turnout. On the other hand the problem is that by doing this there would be a decrease in the participation percentage. Most of the younger people would not take the time to vote; much less take the time to understand what they're voting for.

In the most recent election in 2016 only 59% of Americans voted. Many people today see this as a major issue; however, a major argument has risen on how to solve this problem. One of the solutions that have been considered is lowering the voting age to 16 to get younger Americans votes. However many Americans think that this is crazy to allow 16 and 17 year olds to vote. The clear and only answer to this contentious question is that 16 and 17 year olds should not be able to vote. As stated before 16 and 17 year olds should not be allowed to vote because sixteen and seventeen year olds are not mature enough, their opinions can be easily swayed or changed based on what others think, and they are not educated enough on politics in order to vote.

Voting is a fundamental right and in many countries it is even mandatory for every citizen to vote. The question raised is that a legal age for voting should be increased from 18 to 21 or not.

We should maintain the required age to vote at 18, because young people do not get out and vote. In 2012, only 38% 18 - 24 year olds even voted, lowering the voting age down to 16 would only bring our participation percentage even further down. As a young Canadian citizen there has never been a greater time to change the legal voting age to 16. How come we let unknowledgable adults vote, but not smart engaged teens. Teen voices get blocked out while the adults keep talking.
