The decisions we make can affect us in the worst ways(Finkelstein, 2009). It is so important to use critical thinking because in the long run it will help in making good decisions. My major goal is to graduate and have good grades. One of the most important things about setting goals while in school is that each one needs to be distinct, achievable, and rewarding in order to keep me moving forward . Before setting any major goals for myself, I must try to ensure they conform to the following criteria. First of all I need to be specific knowing exactly what I need to accomplish, make sure my goal is achievable, stay focused on the goals and hold myself to them, and establish a deadline for accomplishing these goals. These are the five things I spend most of my time thinking about.
These are my goals and plans as follows;
(1). Set a Goal for Grades in Each Class- Even though I want to do my best in each class I have to consider some subjects are harder than others and each instructor is different. Nevertheless, I must set a realistic goal for the grade I think I can earn by working hard, and invest a reasonable amount of time working toward this goal. Some courses are just harder, or more applicable to the intended career path, than others, and setting a specific grade goal can help to prioritize effectively. (2). Plan Homework/Study Times for Every Course- At the beginning of each five weeks, try to plan out specific time blocks for each class throughout the week, and hold
When accessing information you should figure out what you need more what information you will need, and where to find it. You can get the best information online when using .edu and .org websites. They are more reliable and have better info than a .com or .net website. You can analyze your influences by sorting through the internal and external influences that are around you. These could be things like your own personal beliefs, to the things your teacher lectures about in class. Goal setting is important because it helps you to achieve your hopes and
Going to class is one of the first things you should probably do. You may be thinking, but if I go to class isn’t that trying to succeed? Well not quite, because in college if you don’t go to the two classes you are automatically dropped form the class. Now you can’t fail if you have nothing to fail in. Come to class late or even leave early. Go to class enough that you will not be dropped from the class. While in class do poorly on coursework,
The second piece of advice is to take the time to study the information that the teachers give to you. Study for tests and quizzes several days before the exam, especially for semester tests. Some teachers make that grade worth one-third of your semester grade, and if you really want to get a good grade and do well in school, you need to study all of the time. If you are stuck on a problem or idea and don't understand it, don't be afraid to ask the teacher for help or a friend who is smart. It always pays off to ask for that extra help if you don't get something.
For my educational plans, I have a clear understanding and vision of where I want to go and who I have the desire to be. For now, I would like to graduate with my Associates in Arts degree in Nursing from Indian River State College. I believe Indian River State is an excellent place to begin my journey and recieve my education in order to better prepair myself for what is yet to come. After I recieve my Associates degree from Indian River, I plan to transfer to the University of South Florida in order to extend my education and potentially recieve my Bachelors and Masters of Science degree in Nursing.
My first priority is to perform well in my classes. Personally I plan to build the framework to my goal-oriented mindset by keeping a daily agenda that will organize the classes and meetings that I have to attend. I believe that constructing a list will enable me to develop a healthy habit while performing my daily activities. I also plan on dedicating 2-3 hours to review and study new materials that I learned in class as well as prepare myself for future lessons throughout the week.
One of the broad goals of education is to assist students in acquiring knowledge that they will need in order to succeed. It is essential for this goal to be met regardless of whether the student will be continuing on to college or entering the workforce. In order to achieve this goal, it will be
First one is to go to an academic counselor before the beginning of each semester. Students do not know about this; especially that it could help them to organize and save their time on their courses—and their money, too. Academic counselors can answer questions and tell advices, and they will be with you semester by semester in preparing your major scholastic plans for future transfers, organizing your degree requirements for successful graduation, and giving you good advises about scholastic difficulty. When I start my first semester at Norco Community College in winter 2015, I wasn’t know that there is a counselor who can help you with choosing classes and schedule organizing. Also, a counselor will counsel you to take subjects that open another subject, such as Math-36 opens Math-10, and English-50
1. Attend Every Class - Go to every class, be on time, and come with a positive attitude, open mindset, and ready to learn.
I describe myself as a hardworking and determined student. I have many goals that I want to accomplish, and some are short-term goals such as graduating with a 4.0 gpa or higher from high school and become president for at least one of the clubs I am in. Other goals I have are long-term goals such as my goal of going and graduating college, and becoming a doctor as my future career.
Any college student will tell you that the only downside to learning is the homework. Sometimes the homework can get overwhelming, to the point that you stress out and don't do it to your full potential. I am in my second year, and I have learned with trial in error the main points that can and will help make doing your homework a lot easier, and will help with your grade too. First and foremost, organization is essential. Organize all your papers for one class in one folder, and have separate folders for each class. There are also folder books that have six or more folders in one, these work just as well. This will help in having all your important papers together, and will not cause you to mix up or loose any of them. When you keep them
I know that the only way to attain the information I need to pass this class with a passing grade is to attend every lecture. Staying focused during lectures is also of high importance because that is the only time I will be able to take notes that are not available in the book. Staying focused also means giving myself the time to complete any assignments. Giving myself the time to focus on my assignments per day will allow me to complete them in adequate time, therefore, managing my time with individual assignments is also going to be very important. Another step in successfully passing this class is one of the most important, and that is setting time aside to study. Studying will be the main step to completing this class with a passing grade. If I do not give myself the time to do so, all my efforts will not pay out. Finally, not being ashamed to ask for help when needed will be key to my success. At times, I can feel a bit embarrassed to speak up, which will only affect my grade. Not only will stepping out of my comfort zone be beneficial to my learning experience, I will also benefit in better understanding topics when in doubt.
Upon reviewing the “Best Strategies for success in school” I realize that I now apply many ideas I use to ignore to my school approach such as getting to know my instructors, breaking down projects into more manageable tasks to avoid procrastination, and staying healthy. All the strategies listed are important but the three key strategies that will remain with me the longest throughout my academic career will be to getting help with difficult class work early, keeping most
College is a competitive environment; in order to succeed in it a student needs certain skills. Those skills can only be learned. A college professor mentioned that there five basic rules that need to be followed in order to become a good student: study, do all the homework and the assigned reading, attend class, and, most importantly, develop self-discipline and time management 1. In the following lines, a detailed analysis of those different steps will be done. So, let’s get started.
Everyone should have personal goals that evolve around anything that needs to be accomplished. I set goals on a daily basis. One goal that I seem to have not truly focused on has been my college education. Considering all things, I decided I needed to focus on my college education. The first thing I needed to accomplish was to enroll in an institution for higher learning. Now that my enrollment is complete, I am an official student at the University enrolled in the undergraduate program for business management. As a student at the university, I now have to set personal goals so that I will be successful in my endeavors. My personal goals are to gain personal growth and development and graduate from my undergraduate program in business
One thing I’ve learned is to use self-discipline. This was a good topic to learn about in class because I have always got distracted by things that made me fall off track. In the book called “On Course Strategies for Creating Success in College and in Life” Skip Downing said “Success takes self-discipline- the willingness to do whatever has to be done, whether you like it or not, until you reach your goals and dreams.” This quote meant a lot to me during my high school year we had to do a Senior Project, let me just say I really didn’t feel like doing it. The more I thought about how important it was to graduate I got it done on time.
