We are told to “go to college” by family, media, and teachers, but we are never given an explanation on why it’s important for us to get a higher education. The importance of higher education is so we can obtain a career that can support our needs and wants. It’s also important because it gives you an advantage when trying to get a job. Employers require a higher form of education, which is necessary for our society to advance. There aren’t many jobs that accept people with a high school diploma as their highest form of education. Employers want people that know what they’re doing, and so does our society. In order for people to go into the career field they want, they need to go to college to learn everything that comes with that career.

Right now in our society a college education is no longer an option or privilege, but rather a necessity. We are practically raised and conditioned to believe that one needs higher education in order to succeed in life. There is a saying that says "if you think education is expensive, try ignorance." Nowadays, going to college is common in United States. According to the statistic, there are more than 70 percents of the student are going to college after high school graduation. In our society today, college is something that one is expected to attend. Today, our place or position in society is mostly looked at by our education level rather than who the person truly is. Now society is also looking at this generation for us to know that to succeed, one might set high goals for their self, which means going to college and pursing a degree. On the other hand, there are some people in this world that graduated from high school and have never been to college and are just happy with their life like it is. There are two ways to look at this topic. One view is that college is worth the cost in the long run and another view is that college is not worth the cost at all. College is worth the cost. Yes, it can be expensive depending on where the high school graduate would like to attend, but education is something that is worth the cost and something one will never lose.

While going to college can help you succeed in life, it is not for everyone. Some people already know what they want to do after high school and don’t need a college education to accomplish it. Many believe that the amount of education a person has determines how successful you will be and that college is the ticket to life. Also, that if you don’t go to college you won’t be able to get a decent paying job but this isn’t necessarily true. Many are also not able to pay off their college debt and this can become a big problem. To add to this, many just don’t care much about their education and don’t want to put in the effort and end up wasting time and money. College is not necessary for everyone and does not assure that you’re educated.
