Throughout our lives we hear people saying, "God has blessed me" or "I am blessed" and most of the time the first thing that comes to our minds is success. We immediately relate blessings to something great. The most common understanding of what it means to be blessed by God is that we receive good things from Him. In this case, we can say that everyone, believes and non-believers receive blessings from God. However, we should ask ourselves this: are the blessings from God only limited to materialistic things? Even though they are part of it, to think that the blessings from God are primarily materialistic things tends to limit our understanding of what God has in store for us the believers. So what does it really mean to be blessed by …show more content…
There is nothing we could have done to deserve God 's blessing. However, in his infinite love, Jesus Christ took our place and died on the cross for us; Jesus bore the curse that was upon us and died in our place. He died so we could live. Every single human being has received the blessing of God through faith in Jesus. Galatians 3:14 says, "He redeemed us in order that the blessing given to Abraham might come to the Gentiles through Christ Jesus, so that by faith we might receive the promise of the Spirit." This verse clearly tells us that the blessing in Christ that God wants us to receive is much larger than materialistic things; God wants us to receive the promise of the Spirit. This verse also indicates that the Spirit is the blessing that God promised Abraham to all nations and that has been received by everyone who believes in Jesus Christ as their only Savior. Because the Spirit of God dwells in us, we are beyond blessed to have the opportunity to pray, call upon his name and meditate in his Word. We are blessed by simply having the opportunity of conversation with God at any time of our day. To me, the word blessing or to be blessed means: to have the Spirit dwelling in me and to have his active support in my life. The greatest blessing of God always rests in God Himself.
Knowing that to be blessed by God is not only receiving materialistic things from him completely changes the idea I have of missions. For believers, a blessed life
Before hearing about the need in different parts of our world, I never considered going on a mission trip. Last summer during show choir camp, our choreographer told us about a charity called Thirst Project. Thirst Project is an organization that builds wells in Africa so the citizens can have clean drinking water. Knowing that there are people out there drinking brown, gunky water filled with animal feces breaks my heart, because there are steps that we can all take to help solve that problem. For me, one of those steps is going on a mission trip. If I could help even one person live a higher quality life, I will be satisfied, knowing that I have made a purpose to my life. Another time that my eyes were opened was this summer. One of my friends went on a mission trip to Haiti with her church, and seeing pictures from their trip moved me to have an even stronger desire to go on one myself. Both the children in Haiti and the people serving them were both so joyful,
In Let the Nations be Glad, the emphasis in the first chapter is that missions is not the most important aspect of the church, but worship is. Worship is the glorification of God by man and creation, and anything that gives God glory is attributing to worship. The fall however, ruined the intended perfect worship that man mas designed to give to God, in eating of the forbidden fruit Adam and eve distanced themselves and all of their offspring from God until the end of the age. Missions exists only because worship does not, because of the fall, missions must take place in order to share the love of Christ with those who are distanced from him by sin, and show them that a reparation of this separation is possible in Christ alone. Missions can work as an aid to worship, in that it brings glory to God by introducing the nations to him, and
Last Sunday at church Father Ron said something that hit home for me. He said that a mission begins with an invitation. I grew up in a rural area in the highlands of Nairobi, Kenya. Life was not easy and I always made a point of maximizing the opportunities I got. I grew up knowing that I wanted to be in a profession that really helped people improve their wellbeing. When I got the opportunity to go to university I choose to do Biomedical Science because I was very good at science and I thought that being a scientist was my calling. However, becoming an adult and having varying experiences like volunteering in a children’s home, working in the field doing research, working in a laboratory and currently working as a nurse aide has taught me
The more a soul accepts the works of God, the more spiritual it will become. God created the Great Awakening in order to give people the opportunity to experience more ecclesiastical zeal. Once a person finds "Joy in the Holy Ghost," they will then experience “joy unspeakable and full of glory." (Romans 14:17 & 1 Peter 1:8). Using these biblical quotes, Edwards explains that by exalting in God, the human soul fills with joy and raises. Therefore, it is in people's best interest to personally accept the Great Awakening and allow the works of God to fill their soul even more and spiritually elevate
"I want to do some mission work. I'm currently unemployed, and It hurts when family calls me a loser for having no job. God told me I don't need to do a regular job. I need to do something with a purpose. I will be a missionary by God's grace.
Some estimate that 70 percent of the worlds bible-believing Christians (as opposed to nominal or cultural Christians) now live in the majority world.”1 This reality should entirely changes the way we think about missions. If the greater part of Christians no longer live
‘I will praise thee; for I am fearfully and wonderfully made: marvelous are thy works; and that my soul knoweth right well.—Psalm 193’ Olson
He helped me believe that I was doing the right thing by making sure everyone was safe. While standing at the corner of a street that was interfered with the race, many cars tried to come through to the race. I helped the adults in cars turn around to go in the right direction to avoid hitting the runners or walkers. I also helped set up the food for everyone who may have been hungry. This helped in the long run because no one got injured throughout the race, and God helped me. Although I felt God only in my heart, I knew that he was helping me become a better person in the long
We know several people who have been on short-term mission trips. Perhaps you’ve even been on one yourself and proclaimed to others that you gained more from that trip than the people you went to serve. Maybe you’re a full-time missionary living in another nation (at least for the majority of the year). Most likely, you’re an average church member who knows the Great Commission but doesn’t feel called to long-term overseas ministry. Regardless of where you stand, “Missions” by Andy Johnson is an excellent introduction to missions. Johnson provides readers with ways to be mission-minded, live missional lifestyles, and serve those who are on mission at home and abroad.
It has been said that worship is the core or center of mission. The ultimate goal of any missionary is to bring people (entire people groups) into a passionate, relationship with God. John Piper states,
By the grace and mercy of God, He has made away of escape through Jesus Christ being made a curse for us when He was placed on the cross to take away our sin. God’s grace therefore abounds exceedingly in abundance without ever coming to an end, for it is His free gift given unto us by no worthiness on our behalf, only by what Christ Jesus did for us, Amen.
The Lord Jesus Christ has granted us grace and by faith we work towards a divine fate.
As a child of God, you have been adopted into the family of God. We have inherited every spiritual blessing in Christ. He has endowed you with benefits that can never be taken away from you. The Apostle Paul says in Ephesians 1:3 that Father God has, “blessed us in the heavenly realms with every spiritual blessing in Christ.” The Greek word for “blessing” is the word eulogia which means “to speak well of, benefit.” We can say that God has spoken good things about us, or pronounced good things for our benefit.
The last of the initial tasks for missions is spreading the Gospel. Once a strong, healthy body of believers has been organized that is well provided for and self-sufficient it
First of all, any missional mental model should be derived from missio Dei itself, which is "the mission of God to bring about redemption of the world" (Sunquist 2013, 7). When we carry this mission out in suffering for God’s eternal glory, we need to imagine how in the future his goodness, his beauty, and his harmony will cover the entire creation. I think it’s necessary for us to have this vision of his glory and be aware that whatever we do is not our own ministry. The idea of us joining the ministry of Jesus Christ is
