Many characters in the book The Giver and the book, Dreamland, are comparable. For example, Cassandra O’Koren from Dreamland and Jonas from The Giver have many similarities. However, they also have a few differences. Cassandra and Jonas are alike because they both ran away and they have the same personality. On the other hand, their physical traits aren’t the same and they have different living conditions. First, Both Cass and Jonas ran away for the same reason. They felt they weren’t free living where they were then. However, Cass felt tied down because of her parents, while Jonas felt this because of the community. Cass was always expected to do best things in her life. This caused her one day to break and leave her home. Jonas never knew …show more content…
Cass and Jonas are both very intelligent. Also, they both think deeply before saying anything so they don’t hurt anyone. On top of that, they both were very successful in their jobs/schoolwork. Jonas was selected as the Receiver of Memory, an assignment only wise people receive. “He has shown all of the qualities that a receiver must have… Intelligence… Integrity… Courage… The fourth essential attribute is wisdom.” (Lowry 60,61) Simaritily, Cass was accepted into Yale, which is an ivy league school. “ What she was, was student body president two years running, star right wing on the girls’ soccer team (State Champs her junior and senior year), and Homecoming Queen. She volunteered chopping vegetables at the homeless shelter for soup night every Thursday, had been skydiving twice, and was famous in our high school for staging the firing of a popular English teacher…” (Dessen 11) Many people were jealous of Cass’s and Jonas’s successfulness. Cass’s sister Caitlin always felt as if she was living in Cass’s shadow and that Cass was always the center of attention. Also, when Jonas was selected Asher was upset because all eyes were on Jonas. Lastly, they both worry often. For example, Cass worried what her life at Yale would be like (she made sure not to show these emotions) and Jonas worried about what assignment he would receive. “But it’s the ceremony I’m feeling apprehensive about. It’s almost December.” Jonas and
Jonas accepting his society because he's unaware of emotions of the other people in his community. Jonas follows the rule of having the share your feelings everyday. Not telling
The Giver teaches us that love is essential to life. Jonas and the Giver demonstrate again and again how important it is, even though it’s forbidden. The Giver demonstrates love when he declares, “‘I love you Jonas’ he said. ‘But I have another place to go. When my work here is done, I want to be with my daughter’”(202). The Giver is saying goodbye to Jonas, he is practically telling Jonas he is going to finish the things he needs to, then The Giver is going to ask to be released. He says he loves Jonas and you can tell Jonas loves him too. He loves his family even though they don’t know how to love or what love is. He also loves Gabe, Jonas saves him from being ‘released’. Jonas feels accepted, loved, and at home when the giver tells him he
Jonas starts out with a very low understanding of what it means to be mature. He has no knowledge of pain, love, or any other emotion. He proves this by acting like a normal child. He plays with his friends after volunteer hours. He attends school on a regular basis. Jonas is a stickler for the rules. He has been told that it is wrong to not follow rules and that there
Jonas has changed from being feelingless and as the story goes on he develops feelings.
Winning doesnt show someones true character, what you do after the loss is what defines someone. Jonas faced many conflicts and what he did afterward is what showed us, the readers who he really was. After the problems jonas became a more angry with the society, rebellious, and smart person who who cared about the rest and wanted to make a difference and help the community be a better place without the people as much as they were.
Ned, from Code Talker and Jonas from The Giver, are two unique characters. Although they lived in hugely different societies there many similarities can be drawn between the two. There are obvious differences between Ned and Jonas. For example, Ned and Jonas lived in completely different societies with extremely different cultures. Jonas’ home was very orderly and peaceful, whereas Ned’s gave free will and was experiencing a time of war.
Jonas is confused because he doesn’t understand why his friends, and family, are okay with living like clones.
Jonas still has many different changes that continues as the story goes on. Based on what I read, " Then she went on. Jonas has been selected. " I belive that the community was probably all confused because everyone else was assigned, and they chose Jonas. Also, "...; and the Chief Elders' eyes were now on one who sat in the midst but seemed oddy seperate from them."
They both have secrets that could cause serious consequences if they tell anyone. Caitlin from “dreamland” and Jonas from “The Giver” have similarities and differences. Jonas and Caitlin are similar because they both want to be different from everyone else. For example, Caitlin does not want to live in her sister's shadow and wants to be known as her own person. I can relate her to Jonas when he does not want to live in the Community's shadow because he does not think what they are doing is right.
The past has been a horrible place, and the present is not any better. Imagine how different our world would be if our societies could change something about the past. Although we are not able to edit the past like a written story, we can learn about it. By studying our past, we can learn how to create a better future. Think back to social studies and history classes during school.
Their worlds were totally dissimilar makes their personalities very different as well. For example, Jonas and Caitlin have quite different personas. Jonas is sensitive and extremely intelligent. Jonas turning in twelve in the beginning of The Giver can hint at him being less mature.
Jonas saw people dying and shooting at each other in hate and saw all of the explosions that caused fires and everything was hectic. Jonas did not like that memory at all because he had never heard of or experienced such a tragedy and hardship before because of the Community. The Community kept every type of feeling there was away from everyone, the good and the bad. Although some people may think that it is good to take away all of the bad memories, I don’t think so because if taking away all of the bad memories means taking away the good memories too then I’ll take bad memories along with the good ones because the good memories are things that no one should ever want to forget because they are key moments too when they were happy, the best moments of their
Jonas wants things to be right because he dont like it because they don't have their own privacy and he probably wants amd they have camera everywhere
Jonas, a 12 year old boy, who is the main character as well as the protagonist as well as the developing character in the story The Giver. At the December Ceremony he was selected as receiver of memory which allows him to be capable of knowing about memories. The Giver is an older man who is the confidante in the story and holds all the memories of the world. He also gives the memories to Jonas hence the name The Giver. Fiona and Asher are Jonas’s best friends, they are the static characters in the story.
I will really like to talk about the character “Giver” because I found him the most interesting character in the book. The Giver is the person who is responsible of keeping all the community’s memories and pass them on to the next receiver. In the book he’s an old man who is very wise and gentle, but haunted by the memories of suffering and pain. He didn’t do anything except giving memories to Jonas, and letting him know more about the community. But since the Giver was definitely clever, he already realized the dangerous truth of the community, but he couldn’t do anything before Jonas became the receiver.
