WORLD WAR ONE
There has always been wars, and there will always be wars. Most wars leave a huge impact on the history of that nation, especialy if it involves more than one. In 1914, long-standing rivalries among
European nations exploded into war. World War one, as it is now called, cost millions of lives. Such a war, has left a deep intentaion on the
American history.
There were three very important causes of World War One;
Nationalism, Militarism, and Imperialism ( Davidson, Castillo, Stoff, page
570). For years, these three factor has brought tension to European nations. Then, in June of 1914, Archduke Franz Ferdinand, heir t the throne of

In time, 21 other nations joined the Allies.
When war broke out in Europe, the United States was determined to stay neutral to avoid being dragged into the conflict that would clearly tear apart any nation who was involved. While neutral, the Americas supplied other countries with weapons in order to gain money. This all changed wen President Woodrow Wilson recepted the Zimmerman
Telegram. This was a telegram from Germany urging Mexico to attack the United States.
In return, Germany promised that they would help Mexico win back its
“lost provinces” in the American South west. President Wilson could not longer keep the peace, so he went before congress and asked for a declaration of war. On April 6 of 1917, the president signed the declaration of war. It thrust Americans into the deadliest war the world had yet seen(Davidson, Castillo, Stoff, page 578).
The first American troops reached France in June of 1917. They quickly saw the desperate situation if the Allies, they had lost millions of solders, and the troops in the trenches were exhausted and ill. Many of the civilians were near starvation. To make matters worse, Russia withdrew from the war. With Russia out of the way, Germany could move its armies away form the
World War I was a military fight that began between Europe and Russia and eventually became a worldwide war containing more than thirty nations. Part of these nations were known as the Allies, these included Great Britain, Russia, France, and the United States. They fought against the union recognized as the Central Powers, involving Turkey, Bulgaria, Germany, and Austria-Hungary. The Unites States of America had remained neutral until it entered World War I in 1917 during the final year and half of fighting. World War I had a large impact on the United States which continued after the war had ended. The war resulted in good benefits but also difficulties and disadvantages. Although World War I was not fought on U.S. land, the war had short and long term effects on the economic, social, and political fronts.
World War 1 was a war that lasted from 1914 to 1918 and was a war that involved and was molded around alliances. This war in Europe would eventually turn into a global war that would involve 32 countries. United States involvement was crucial to the outcome of World War 1 and made a serious impact in our country. Both positive and negative effects were felt by Americans during and even long after the war. Mixed feelings were felt from many Americans for entering the war that would affect society.
World War I began in 1914 as a result of several things including alliances and nationalism throughout the world, and imperialistic nations attempting to gain more global power. The United States tried to stay with the foreign policy known as isolationism and stay completely out of the war. However, due to Germany’s severe actions, America was forced to enter the war in 1917 on the side of the Allies. This greatly helped the Allies in accomplishing a victory. The war ended in 1919 although there were still bitter feelings between the different countries. Following World War I, United States’ government became more involved and there was rising conflict over political influence in other nations, the economy took a turn for the worst,
The start of the Spanish-American war also marked something bigger- American entry into world affairs. Since then, the U.S. has continued to have a significant hand in various conflicts around the world, and has entered many other treaties and agreements. In 1914, at the start of World War I (WWI), President Woodrow Wilson, in a declaration of neutrality, vowed to keep America out of the war. Inspite of this, Americans were spurred on by German aggression, violation of international law, and protecting economic interests. The U.S. had entered the war, creating a major turning point. The war ended with Germany's defeat. As a determining force in the victory of the war, America became almost soley in charge of creating a post-war agenda. But,
It is said to be one of the worst wars of all time. It lead to thousands of casualties and it bankrupted many economies. World War 1 was truly devastating fight between the Allied powers and the Central powers. The allies consisted of France, Britain, and Russia and on the other hand the central powers consisted of Germany, Austria-Hungary, and the Ottoman Empire. This war was getting very tense and the Germans had provoked the United States in many ways which gave the United States no other choice but joining the war. The United States joined the war on the allies’ side in 1917 after Russia left because of the U-boat attacks, money loans, and the Zimmermann note.
Three Causes of World War I World War I and its consequences have dominated European history since 1914. Because of the bitter controversy over the post-war peace treaties, the origins of the war continued to be an issue of utmost political importance in the years to come. The Great War had its roots in 1870 in the grand expansion and uncontrolled ambitions of Bismarck and the new Germany (Wolfson et al 1997). Imperialism, which began to emerge around the turn of the 20th century also played a decisive role. Fights over the colonies contributed to the establishment of complex set of international alliances, which helped to destabilize the European balance of power and when combined with
The United States was impacted greatly because of the war. The United States at the time under President Wilson had initially decided to stay out of the war because it had nothing to do with them. However, in 1917 when a German Submarine attached U.S shipments in order to encourage Mexico to declare war. The war is one that will remain heavily engraved in history. More than 11 million solders died and many civilians died too due to hunger and disease. World War 1 caused a major social impact of the war is what caused the “sense of loss innocence” causing the emergence of the “lost generation” where poets, writers and artists came out to discuss the war experience. Economically the United States became a superpower in the world. The War effort increased commerce and the GDP greatly. Also as a result of the war wages in industries rose by about 20 percent. Union membership also increased from 2.5
In 1914, World War 1 erupted in Europe. During the the first first two years of the war President Wilson decided that America would stay neutral. America did not want to get involved in a war that was not their battle to win. This benefited America because both sides of the war would buy supplies from America. Things were going smooth for America until Germany decided to attack American ships which killed many Americans. As tension grew between Germany and the United States, President Wilson still would not enter the war. However, that is until the Zimmermann note happened in which Germany proposed an alliance with Mexico via telegram if America would ever enter the war. That event was the last straw because in April 6, 1917 the United
Alliances and treaties turned international incidents into world wars. The majority of both wars were fought on European and Asian soil, along with the Pacific and Atlantic Oceans. The wars had a huge effect on the United States; on the economy and its society. Most of the physical damage took place overseas, but both World War I and II had lasting effects on the United States and its people. World War II had a greater impact on the United States than World War I, because it brought the United States out of the greatest depression in the country’s history and made the United States a leading world power.
There were multiple causes of world war 1. During the 20th-century Europe was enjoying a time of peace and prosperity. Europe was clueless at the fact that there were several forces working on grasping Europe into the "Great War". Those forces worked with the intention resulting in Europe giving in.
By mid 1914 nearly the entire continent of Europe would be engaged in brutal war; meanwhile, the United States of America aimed to remain neutral in honor of The Monroe Doctrine. However, attempting to maintain an uninvolved and unbiased position would bring America closer to war. In the mid to late 1910s four substantial events would push the United states to war, and in reaction, by April 1917 the country formally declared war and entered WWI. Politically, the U.S. differed significantly with Germany and its allies in diplomatic affairs such as the Sussex Pledge and House-Grey Memorandum; in these events the strong disagreements between European Germany and Isolated America would strain the tension in the diplomatic ties between the two
The United States military contribution was decisive, since Russian decided to quit the war, and the new forces from the US entered the front, which was demoralizing to the Germans, who retrieved back to
What one thing do you think caused WW1? There in fact were many causes of WW1. One of the causes was imperialism. There was jealousy between the countries because some had more colonies then others. The major countries did not trust each other or get along. They were worried about the build up of each others army. Each country had great pride and nationalism. By 1914 all major countries had taken sides against one another and formed alliances. The immediate cause of WW1 was the assignation of the heir to Austria-Hungary’s throne.
Causes of WW1 Nationalism was not the main cause of World War 1. Not every country wanted to be the largest and most powerful country in the world. The most immediate cause of World War One was the assassination of Archduke Francis Ferdinand of Austria-Hungary, this event made alliances come into effect. The alliances were the number one reason why World War 1 happened, because if one country had a bad interaction with another country in a separate alliance, then all countries that are in both alliances would all start fighting each other.
World War 1 was known as the Great War, it was a global war that was taking place in Europe, which began on July 28, 1914 and ended on November 11, 1918. The war started from many various factors that were taking place before hand. Some of those things were nationalism, imperialism, the alliance system and the assassination of the ambassador. The United States of America also had many different factors that contributed to it joining the war, and although they have many reasons why they joined the war, some say that the zimmerman note was the main cause for the U.S to join the war. When the war started and the U.S joined the war, back home we had many economic, political and social changes. World War 1 was started from different factors but
