The Renaissance was the period of advances in the fields of arts, culture, philosophy, humanism, science and economy. The invention of the printing press helped spread literacy and made ancient texts, which were previously only available in Latin or Greek, that the common person didn’t know, available in languages that people could understand. The Renaissance’s Humanism ideas made everybody question previously accepted knowledge which eventually lead to the scientific revolution.

The Renaissance was a cultural movement in the 14th to 17th centuries during which European artists, scientists, and scholars, were inspired by classical achievements of the Greeks and Romans. Many scholars believe that the Renaissance was a separate period of time from the Middle Ages, however, some still believe that the Renaissance was just a continuation of the Middle Ages. The Renaissance is a distinct period of time due to the revival of education, scientific discovery and humanism.

The Renaissance was a period of great cultural and technological changes that swept Europe from the end of the 13th century. It was integral in developing Europe into a powerhouse. Although, each part of Europe was subjected to different changes, there were two primary renaissances, which were most notable. They were the Italian and the Northern renaissance. The Dark Ages began after the fall of the Roman Empire. Much of Roman knowledge and culture was lost at this period of time, such as, art, history and technology. This a period of time that began in the year 410, the fall of Rome, and ended in 1095 with the launch of the Crusades. “The Dark Ages” was definitely an appropriate term for this era because of all the terrible things and events that took place. The Dark Ages were a period of constant war, terrible plague and religious division.

Have you ever wondered if the Middle Ages was a “Dark Age”? In my opinion I don’t know why they call it the “Dark Age” they should be calling it the “Great Age”, because in that age that is when our ancestors brought everything to life and made this world into starting to become great one with so many achievements. I think just because the Middle Ages has the “Dark Age” part at the end that why so many people who don’t understand what really happened think that it was a “Dark Age.

The "Dark Ages" is a historical period referring to the Middle Ages, but it’s darkness can be defined in many ways. Most people define it by its demographic, cultural, and economic decline as a result of the Roman Empire’s fall. The Middle Ages are often called the Dark Ages by some historians is because compared with other eras, historians don't know as much about this time period. The term is not easy to define, but it was definitely an era of which no scientific accomplishments were made, no great leaders born, no gorgeous works of art made.

The Middle Ages began as a result from the collapse of the Roman Empire which began in 31 BCE, and fell in 476 C.E. In around 300 C.E. the emperor of the Rome divided the land for easier control. This began the decline of Rome. The Western half of Rome fell to Barbarian invaders, while the eastern half lived on as the Byzantine Empire. The Early Middle Ages began shortly after the western half fell. After the Roman Empire lost its position as the center of power, Western Europe fell into a time of chaos and warfare. There were a lot of attacks by Vikings, Magyars (hungarian nomads), and Muslims. The invasions caused disorder, and suffering, and the government system developed into feudalism.The High Middle Ages followed, the Early Middle Ages, and was the time period in Western Europe from around the 11th century to the 13th. The Middle Ages are referred to as the “Dark Ages” because of the disorder, hopelessness of the time. It is accurate to refer to the Middle Ages (500-1500) as a whole as a” the Dark Ages”.The Early Middle Ages meet the qualities of a dark age due to the, lack of government, education, and dysfunctional economy. However, the high middle ages was a time of improvement for these issues.

Historians debate and have different opinions on whether the time period between the fall of the Roman Empire and the Renaissance should be called the Dark Ages. Before the Dark Ages, like every previous empire, the Roman Empire collapsed. This empire fell from barbarian attacks, not enough slaves, and too much money spent on the military. During the Dark Ages, there were also the crusades, or holy wars, that broke out between the Christians and Muslims. While the Muslims currently controlled Jerusalem, the Christians wanted to take over the Holy Land because it was where Jesus lived, died, and was buried. The holy wars involved the Christians and Muslims slaughtering one another to fight for the Holy Land. The Great Schism also happened during the Dark Ages. The Roman Catholic Church and the Greek Orthodox Church excommunicated each other because they did not get along and had different views. The Great Schism happened shortly after Diocletian, the leader of the Roman Empire, split the empire making the Eastern Roman Empire and the Byzantine Empire. Because of wars, attacks, and the splitting of churches and empires, the time period between the fall of the Roman Empire and the Renaissance should be called the Dark Ages.

The fall of the Roman empire to the Renaissance is a medieval period. The fall of the Roman empire is a time when the Roman Orthodox Church and the Roman Catholic Church excommunicated each other. Since both major churches excommunicated each other, millions of people split into smaller groups. These groups made smaller kingdoms, which had little to no communication with each other. Since there is little communication between other kingdoms, advancing technology, creating art, and learning new subjects delayed completion. People were not advanced as they should be. Churches and kings took advantage of them for currency and power. Eventually the Renaissance began and fixed many problems, but still, millions were exposed to manslaughter and died during the Dark Ages. There are many reasons why the Dark Ages should be named this because of lack of government, barbaric tribes, and little to no advancement in education.
