The Culture Of Cuba

In researching the business culture of another foreign country for the use of an informational memo. I want to let my classmates, know what country has been chosen to research and share some of it's interesting facts on the country of Cuba.

Brazil, officially the Federative Republic of Brazil, is located in Eastern South America, bordering the Atlantic Ocean. Brazil is the largest country in South America and covers nearly half of the continent. Cuba, officially the Republic of Cuba, is a Caribbean island located in between the Caribbean Sea and the North Atlantic Ocean. Cuba is the largest island in the Caribbean Sea and is only one hundred and fifty kilometers south of Key West, Florida. Both countries share various similarities and differences regarding their country’s population, sovereignty, territory, and government.

There are only five countries left in this world that still call themselves communists stated by (PRI,2013). Everyone knows those five countries as, China, Dominican Republic, Korea, Vietnam, and of course Cuba. Cuba is home to 11.2 million citizens whom live a very different life than us who populate the united states (PRI,2013). During the year of 1925 the socialist party was founded forming the Communist party. Cubans government has survived over 50 years of Communism (BBC,2017).

Cuba has been the source of controversy for decades. Between events such as the Bay of Pigs invasion and the Cuban Missile Crisis in the 1960s and the country’s ongoing Communist dictatorship, this island nation has not always been thought of as an appealing place to visit. However, Cuba’s physical and human geography, especially when coupled with the lifting of the US embargo, give it the potential to be a prime tourism destination.

Miami Florida has the biggest Latin population than any other city in the United States. The majority of Latin's being of Cuban descent. Since the Cuban revolution there have been constant waves of immigrating Cubans to Miami. The result has been a Cuban American society that has created culture diversity within. In order to understand the Cuban American culture you must understand its ethnic origin, politics, and the varying times of immigration.

Gustavo Lopez (2013) tells that Hispanics from Cuba are a big proportion of the United States. Cuban Americans are affiliated with Hispanics. (Lopez, 2013) “Cubans in this statistical profile are people who self-identified as Hispanics of Cuban origin; this means either they themselves are Cuban immigrants or they trace their family ancestry to Cuba” (Lopez, 2013, pp.1). In 2013, Gustavo tells that the Cuban population in the United States was very large. (Lopez, 2013) Cubans who live in the United States prefer to be called certain terms (Lopez, 2013). Most often, Cubans prefer the term “Cuban” and only a few Cubans prefer to be termed as an “American” (Lopez, 2013). Also, when the Cubans were asked about being termed “Hispanic” or “Latino,” both terms were not favorable (Lopez, 2013).

Cuba is in the Caribbean. It is a country that is an island. The capital is Havana. This is the largest city in cuba. Santiago de cuba is the second biggest city. The United States is about 93 miles north of Cuba. To the west is Mexico, and Jamaica is to the south. Haiti, Cayman Islands, and the Dominican Republic are also to the sounth.

My parents, Miguel and Mabel Aguilar, came here in 1997 from Cuba. I was born in New Jersey on July 27th, 2000 and shortly moved to New York three years after. Growing up I had a blend of the “American Dream” and my cuban background and culture. Cubans are super passionate about their roots, with their celebrations including an abundance of dancing, and cuban food, encompassing rice, beans, and roasted pig. I have come to learn that special occasions are always held with a pig roast. Although I lived in America, the cuban culture always followed me because of my parents love for it. Because my parents had such a passion for cuban culture, it was passed down to me. I am extremely grateful that I had and have such a cultural life. The cuban

Cuba is an beautiful island with vibrant art and soul stirring music and villages. From sugar canes to playing dominoes and baseball. Sugar canes, dominoes and baseball is extremely popular in Cuba. Cuba is the 17th largest island in the world and approximately 22% of the country is protected natural areas. Cuba also has 289 beaches and 200 bays but few large rivers or inland water regions. The country has nearly 200 small rivers as well as many narrow streams that run dry in summer. Cuba is the most populous island in the Caribbean and home to over 11 million residents but France is the most visited country in the world, with over 80 million visitors every year. The country is drained by dozens and dozens of rivers and white, sandy beaches

The island of Cuba has an abundant history in politics, religion and Politeness. Cuba is the largest island of the West Indies group is the same size of Pennsylvania, Cuba is west of Haiti and the Dominican Republic, and 90 miles south of Key West, Fla., Cuba’s island is at the entrance to the Gulf of Mexico. Arawak or Taino Indians were the indigenous land owner of Cuba before Columbus landed on the island 1492. Arawak or Taino Indians died from diseases brought by Columbus Sailors and settlers. By 1511, Spaniards under Diego Velásquez had established settlements.

Some famous tourist attractions of Cuba are Vinales valley and its famous for hiking and biking many people ride and walk there every day. Everyone has to go to Cuba and visit the capitol El Capitolio for the culture and government. Morro castle is a sea fortress at the mouth of the harbor that you can visit.

As I stepped off the gargantuan, snow white cruise ship, I gazed at a colorful sea of retro-style cars zipping through the narrow streets littered with potholes. The day I had been anticipating and fearing was finally here. I was in Cuba. The customs office at the end of the ship terminal was institutional looking, with stark white walls and bright lighting. Eventually, my family left customs and officially entered Cuba. Before meeting our tour guide, we located a restroom. Outside, there was a rugged and dirty looking man selling toilet paper to American tourists, who forgot their own roll. However, the cruise line had forewarned us, so we bypassed him.

Cuba is an island nation that was adopted in 1902. One third of it consists of mountains and rolling hills. It lies in the West Indies, and is said to be a beautiful island. Havana is Cuba’s capital, and the center of government for Cuba. Some important cities are Santiago de Cuba and Camagüey. Santiago de Cuba is near the south-eastern area of Cuba, and has a population of about half a million people. It’s considered the second most important city in Cuba, probably because it’s an important sea port. Camagüey is the fourth largest city in Cuba, according to Wikipedia.
