As a wave of hysteria spread throughout colonial Massachusetts, a special court convened in Salem to hear the cases. A lot of which is depicted throughout the story of The Crucible. It is the sole factor of which Miller bases the entire play off. Although the story is not one for one to the original historical actions of The Salem Witch Trials, the play accurately portrays what happened during this time.
