INTRODUCTION
Background
Those who were born between 1946 and 1964 are called the Baby Boomers generation (Dohm 17). This generation, now on the verge of retirement with exit plans from the working economy, is poised to leave a large knowledge and experience gap.
The World War II was a defining chapter in the world’s history (Ball and Gotsill 1). Furthermore, the record numbers of births after the war and the rapid developments in technology and medical advances have led to a prolonged life expectancy. Unfortunately, this has also led to a severe skew in the labour markets all over the world where the baby boomers led to a disproportionate distribution of workers in the workforce.
Most of the current workers, who have both high

However, with the great exodus of the baby boomers exiting the labour market, human resources departments – especially in post- secondary education sector, are faced with the challenge of planning and developing the workforce, planning for corporate successions, and creating a social safety net for the entire sector.
DISCUSSION: CHALLENGES, SUCCESSION PLANNING, AND RETENTION
Why is Baby Boomer Exodus a Challenge?
Dohm (17) suggested that the health and education sector will be most severely affected when the oldest of baby boomers start retiring and exiting from the labour market. She further suggested that the only way to prevent the enormous suffering of these sectors was to retain the soon-to-be retired personnel until adequately skilled replacements could be found. In addition, Ball and Gotsill (8) suggest that in industries like post- secondary education sector, where the learning curves are steep, proper succession and retention strategies are a must to ensure continuity in quality of service. According to Ball and Gotsill’s survey, almost 40% of the workforce in education and health sectors comprise of the baby boomers (8); therefore, these two sectors are the most likely to suffer when the baby boomers begin to retire.
While significant output reduction is not expected in low skill occupations, job openings at the high end of the spectrum are going to be
I believe that World War II was a continuation of World War I because of some not resolved issues. Hitler violated the Treaty of Versailles by expanding the military and invading Poland. One of the events that led to the beginning of World War 1 was: Militarism, Alliances, Imperialism, and Nationalism; which stands for MAIN. Austria-Hungary declared war on Serbia but they then joined up with Russia. After, Germany declared war on Russia which caused the war to expand. World War I ended in 1918 when Germany surrendered. It also had a great impact on European countries after it ended.
Before addressing the changes themselves, it is important to fully understand the circumstances leading up to - and following - the launch of Sputnik 1. Following World War II, of which had officially ended as of 1945, many of the world’s previous powers -- namely Britain, France, and Germany -- were in a state of ruin, struggling to recuperate following the bloody war. However, despite being largely strained for economic and military resources, Britain was not finished with challenging other nations. In British leader Winston Churchill’s famous 1946 remarks regarding communism, he spoke: “From Stettin in the Baltic to Trieste in the Adriatic an ‘Iron Curtain’ has descended across the continent. Behind that line lie all the capitals of the
Setting aside differences in order to achieve a goal is a difficult task for some to overcome, but many have found a way to set those issues to the side in order to become successful. While there have been many demonstrations throughout the course of American history where people have exhibited the ability to handle diversity amongst different groups in a manor where the goal is achieved. One of the major world collaborations in efforts of overcoming the obstacle standing in front of everyone was World War II. During this era, all democratic countries were in fear of being taken over by the powerful communist uprisings. World War II showcased many examples of coming together, how difficult it truly is to maintain a stable relationship, and
“Does this look like an expensive gift to you, Ariana?” Tia asked as I sat down in the seat between her and Tre.
War is a terribly great thing. War shows dedication of soldiers taking a stand in what they believe in. War, to some, can symbolizes bravery, honor, and patriotism, but to others, it symbolizes death, violence, and lost loved ones. With these things in mind, also know this, World War II is considered to be the bloodiest war ever. It is also known as the war with the most innovations to our arsenal of weapons, and the advances that were made went unmatched. Through all the pain and suffering, the United States was able to pull through and win the war through four major aspects: Technological Advancements, The Holocaust, The Attack on Pearl Harbor, and June 6, 1944, better known as D-Day.
There are similar definitions of baby boomer generation in various organizations and scholars. Vincent and Velkof (2010) stated that the baby boomer generation consists of people born in 1946 to 1964 (aged 53 to 71 in 2017), which the period from the end of World War II. They also argued that the post-World War II baby boomers had stepped into the older population, result in a change the age structure of the worldwide. In addition, another scholar from Columbia University, Macunovich (2000) identified that the first-time description the phenomenon of baby boomer was in 1951 due to the birth rate was rapidly increased at that time, among the birth rate in American was enhanced 76 million within twenty years.
A clash of beliefs. One minute a team fighting together during World War II, the next, enemies threatening to wipe one another off the planet. This is what the Cold War could have led to. With resentment and tension high, even back before the start of World War II, both sides had done everything short of a nuclear war. The United States had long been concerned about the idea of communism and Russian leader, Joseph Stalin. Even during their time as allies, one would never trust the other. This was especially true once Stalin had gotten word of a weapon the United States was planning to use on Japan. This, and the fear of the Soviets capabilities, led to multiple tactical strategies by the United States. Opportunities were exploited everywhere in the hopes of expanding their beliefs and ideas versus those of the USSR. This meant propaganda,
Three percent of the world was killed during the 1940s in the deadliest military conflict in history, World War II, since the first World War was unable to prevent it. Referred to as the war to end all wars by the United States President Woodrow Wilson in one of his speeches in 1914, the first World War (1914-1918) resulted in the deaths of seventeen million people and is considered one of the most deadly conflicts in human history. Among the reasons for the Great War deadliness were the changing military tactics and new technology used such as trench warfare, tanks and the use of the submarine. Beliefs of philosophers like Thomas Malthus, who thought that humans needed war and other epidemics to keep the population in check were impeded
Introduction- World War 1 was the first Great War on our time. World War 1 started on the 28th of July 1914 and ended on the 11th of November, 1918. This means that this war lasted for over four years. Over 1500 days of these soldiers’ lives, they spend fighting. There were over 18 million people who were killed or injured during World War One. Countries involved in WW1 are listed as when they first declared war. Serbia (July 1914), Russia, France, Belgium, Great Britain, Montenegro, Japan (all August 1914), Italy (May 1915), Portugal (March 1916), Romania (August 1916), United States, Cuba, Panama (all in April 1917), Greece, Siam (both in July 1917)Liberia, China (both August 1917), Haiti (September 1917) Brazil (October 1917), Guatemala (April 1918) and Nicaragua and Costa Rica both joined in (May 1918). There are many factors to what causes this war, and many opinions where the blame should lie.
World War II, or the Second World War, was one of the biggest wars because it was international. It lasted from 1939 to 1945. It involved almost every major power in the world, forming two military alliances called the Allies and the Axis. It was the most well-known war in history, and it involved more than 100 million people, from more than 30 different countries! 50 to 85 million victims were killed or severely injured due to the use of air power to bomb enemy cities and countries. All of these fatal contributions made World War II one of the deadliest conflicts in human history.
World War II was a global war that lasted from 1939 to 1945. It led to millions of deaths, and devastation across the world. Nazi Germany took control of many European countries, and Japan declared war on the United States. American soldiers were deployed and took action to protect the nation. The United States was in a constant limbo between being safe, and having war on its doorstep. Life for citizens, in the United States and other countries, was affected tremendously by the war, and has shaped the way we view war today. It has changed the way people think about war, and how they react. Life during World War II, explained in Unbroken by Laura Hillenbrand, have shaped how the world approaches war and how it’s devastating events have affected people to this day.
More importantly, after ISIS attacks on the various places in France, the world was in shock and looking for refuge for their loved ones. The president of France announcing that his country is at war. This bring up the topic of a potential World War Third breaking soon. According to the article World War III? from GIC, Pope Frances states that, “the Islamic State could spark a third world war……. Aerial bombing alone won 't deter the 32,000 or so Islamic State extremists, an estimate from the CIA, or their ideology. Major powers outside the region resist sending in ground troops and reviving claims about a war against Islam. "The geographic spread aside, the assaults on Paris show that Daesh has metastasized into a new type of multinational terror group,". Another WWIII in this point of time in the world, would be damaging for everyone in the world. The advance in technology in major part of the world is a problem we will have to face. The leading countries in development all have the most destructive weapons that can wipe up a country or even more. From the article Kill the New Cruise Missile by William J Perry and Andy Weber, they elaborate on the fact that missiles “can be launched without warning and come in both nuclear and conventional variants, cruise missiles are a uniquely destabilizing type of weapon.” Although Barack Obama doesn’t approve of the making of this product in the united states, that does not mean it apply to the rest of the world. Therefore, what is
To begin with second World war, or the largest war in the history of mankind, began on 1 September 1939 till 1945. It involved almost every part of the earth. World war 2 was the bloodiest conflict, more than 40 million were found killed. The principal belligerents were the Axis powers—Germany, Italy, and Japan—and the Allies—France, Great Britain, the United States, the Soviet Union, and, to a lesser extent, China. The war was in many respects a continuation, after an uneasy 20-year hiatus, of the disputes left unsettled by World War II (Royde-Smith).
World War II was the most devastating war in the world. It killed millions of people and used a superfluity of materials and money. The main points of this war is how it began, what was happening while the war was going on, and how it ended.
Aging population can be used as an advantage to increase economic rates growth by keeping them employed as long as possible (Nankervis et al. 2006, p.55). People who are working in a knowledge fields may increase their performance with age, however for more physical positions there is an opposite possibility of low performance with increasing age (Patrickson & Ranzijn, 2006). Consequently, specific jobs may have lack of professional employees. For example by separating workers and using older workers as experience type that can teach and train young employees, as well as use their knowledge will benefit organization in different departments. Also by using younger workers as routine workers or in more physical positions that are hard to perform for older employees will give them opportunity to earn more experience and will keep older employees working as well (Patrickson & Ranzijn, 2006). It is necessary for human resources to distribute their workforce accordingly and to provide required training for their young and old employees.
