“I hate my uniform!” is what every child who is required to wear a uniform would say. What students don’t realize is that there are more pros than cons when it comes to uniforms. Uniforms discipline students to be more respectful as well as obedient. I believe that uniforms provide students with a sense of pride, security and focus. A strict environment leads to better grades which lead to a better future, which, overall, leads you to a successful life, which is, to most people a main priority in life. In the article The Arguments Against School Uniforms by Michelle Kouzmine, it states that a school uniforms teach students how to dress according to the occasion and how to take pride in their appearance. Ultimately, uniforms mentor students on being modest and reserved as well as appropriate and significant to situations in real life. As we grow older and gain more wisdom, we will end up appreciating what uniforms did to us. Likes wise, as we age, our maturity, knowledge and wisdom levels will show and those who wore uniforms in their childhood will always be a level ahead of those who didn’t. Being disciplined to do tasks that are beneficial will help us absorb more information and be open to new ideas. As kids, we are oppressed to do many things. Most of which don’t satisfy our hunger for entertainment. But what if we did what we were supposed to do without putting up a fight? Those hated tasks would still not be favorites, but they would be gotten done a lot easier because in the minds of the young souls, the thought of the task being beneficial to their future is running on a treadmill. Though self-expression may seem good, it can lead to bullying and other social arguments. Many schools have different “cliques” and the root cause of them is self-expression. When students express themselves through clothing, they can be picked on by other students. However, if everyone was dressed in the same type of clothing, stereotyping would be a difficult task. Non-uniform clothing can make students aware of ones’ social and economic status. This leads to bullying which can include mental and physical harm.
