Over the past few decades, technology has greatly improved. Computers have advanced from being the size of a room to a portable item we can carry in our pockets. The vast majority of Americans carry a cell phone at all times, or at least have one within arm’s reach. In today’s technology oriented world, people can be easily susceptible to an overuse of their cell phone; this susceptibility causes multiple distractions in the key settings of our daily lives. The most common form of transportation today is traveling by car. However, traveling by car is very dangerous when cell phones are involved. One in every three teenager’s ages sixteen to seventeen have admitted to texting while driving (Madden & Lenhart, 2009). Nevertheless, using a cell phone while driving not just a phase teenagers go through. Statistics show that 69% of drivers (aged 18-64) in the U.S. admitted to using their cell phone while driving (Helbock, 2016). This causes our roadways to be very unsafe. The students would not have to make time to go to the computer lab to use a computer, they could instantly research at their desk (Funding , 2014). For students to use a cell phone in the classroom, they would have to be greatly monitored to keep them focused on research, not playing games, texting, or browsing social media. If the students are not monitored when using a cell phone in class, their learning process is hindered greatly. Statistics show that seventy-three percent of teachers admitted that they or their students use cell phones in the classroom (Bautista, 2013). Cell phones can be a distraction for teachers as well as students, if teachers are too wrapped up in their social networking profiles and not concerned with the students sitting before them, they are failing to do their job
