Texting While Driving

Ever wonder how your life would be if you killed someone while driving and texting? Think of it this way, it could be your friend, your child, someone you love with all of your heart or even you. How would this affect you, your family or the family of someone else you could easily hurt? During this essay I will persuade you why Idaho should enact Legislation which prohibits texting while driving with statistics, facts and my own personal experience.

Since the beginning of the smart phone era, humanity has come to build relationships with not only people, but their electronic devices. From talking on their phones and exploring apps, to texting while driving, people cannot seem to put down their smart-devices. According to the passage Introduction to Cell Phones and Driving: At Issue, the average amount of texts people send daily runs from around 40 – 110 (2015). It may not seem like the highest number, but knowing that more than half of those messages are sent while driving makes the matter of texting a lot worse. At this point in time, there have been laws prohibiting texting and driving as well as talking on the phone. Yet, to this day, those laws are null and void; regardless, the talking and texting while driving never stops. Although this phenomenon happens daily and causes many minor and major accidents, the probability of seizing this behavior is little to none.

The reason why I agree with the “City Council is because that’s how people get hurt not just you but other people to. Let me tell you about what I mean”. So say if your driving or somebody else driving and there texting and trying to drive at the same time and they looked up to late to see that truck or vehicle coming then boom y’all “crash”. You might be dead or the next person might be dead. Or even y’all badly injured/hurt.That’s why it’s important to not text and drive, cause it put people in danger.

Cell phone use while driving is a terrible distraction. When driving a motor vehicle, you are supposed to be 100% focused on what’s going on around you. There are many crashes because of people using their cell phones while driving. People that cause the crash are severely injured, and so are the victims of the crash. The law should be enforced over the issue of texting and driving; it would save more lives.

Some states have now made it illegal to drive while using a hand-held cell phone. Some people believe that states should not make it illegal to drive when using a cell phone. They argue that cell phones may be more resourceful and less distracting while driving. States should make it illegal to drive while using a cell phone. Driving with a cell phone can cause accidents, be distracting, can be tempting, and can cause loss of control of one's vehicle. Using a cell phone while driving can cause accidents. My friend, Chelsea, had an accident while using her cell phone. She was texting her mom about coming home and did not see the tractor trailor approaching her. She was hit by the tractor trailor and was in the hospital for two weeks

I believe that the driving while texting should be not only treated as not only reckless driving, but also as an addiction. Yes, I said addiction, because the matter just gets worst when driving while texting, but even the idea of not being aware of your surroundings can be just as hazardous as one is driving while texting. Only difference is that a person operating a vehicle presents danger to the road and other people and a person even walking while texting also puts one’s self in danger in public places.

The product that the yellow group created was presented by our team member Dorothy who is a product that could save a life. The idea is to stop people from using their phone while driving. By this how many of us have an application on our phones that lock the usage while driving? I found this to be very unsafely because even though the phone is lock you can still access your phone by answering calls. Now, the problem is that becomes a distraction trying to unlock the phone. According to Snyder, 1.6 million crashes happened due to the phone use while driving (2016). The innovated product is cell phones that automatically will shut off when the car is on drive mode. No more distraction on trying to unlock, text, call because it will only function to make a 911 call with a click of a button.

Nowadays, cellular devices are a necessity for the most people in daily lives. People can take their phone anywhere they want to go. Everyone uses them as a means for communication via voice, text, sound, and video. Text messaging while driving has a severe the negative effect on drivers ability to maintain a central lane position, or more serious those cause can death on the road. Texting while driving can be compared to driving while being drunk. The author asserts that "30.2 million persons aged 21 years or older had driven under the influence of alcohol at least once during the past year." (Dubois, et al). As a result, many accidents have taken place by the most of teenagers and adults people who are driving while being drunk in the United States. Therefore, texting while driving is a growing problem in the United States that should be taken more serious.

What in the world would people do without their cell phones? These handy little devices have proven to be incredibly useful time and time again. Need to make a phone call while already out? Break out that cell phone and call whomever is needed; it is just that easy. Need to get a message to someone but not in a position to talk? Send a text message and get things squared away in just a few seconds. Nowadays, cell phones even come with all kinds of games and other fun applications that help to relieve boredom and occupy the time of the beholders. However, there’s no doubt that using the two together is not the safest way to go. In our modern technological society, people are inclined to constantly use their hand-held devices wherever they go. Texting while driving is considered typing, sending, and reading text messages or e-mails, and other related tasks on a hand-held device while operating a motor vehicle. When a driver is distracted by their phone, they are unaware their surroundings. Just a few seconds of inattention or distraction can result in fatal consequences. According to the National Safety Council, cellphone use was involved in 26% of motor vehicle crashes in 2014. Texting while driving endangers life and property, and it needs to be avoided completely.

Do you love your smart phone? Most Americans do. Everyone enjoys talking to family, friends, or even do business when in the car. It saves time.
