The total average cost of attendance to attend Texas A&M for one year cost about $27,272 (for in-state residents), which includes tuition and fees, board and room, books, transportation and other types of expenses. It’s also not a problem if you don’t live nearby . There are 16 different A&M University's. The closest ones from here would be Corpus Christi, San Antonio, and College Station. Texas A&M is the state’s oldest institution of higher education, and was founded in 1876.

The Colored Junior College was established to provide an opportunity for African-Americans to receive college training. The Junior College progressed so fast that by 1931, it became a member of the Association of Colleges and Secondary Schools and was approved by the Southern Association of Colleges. In the summer of 1934, the Houston School Board changed the junior college to a four-year college and the name to Houston College for Negroes. When the university opened its doors in September 1947, it had 2,300 students, two schools, one division and one college - the Law School, the Pharmacy School, the Vocational Division, and the College of Arts and Sciences. Responding to the changing times, in 1973, the 63rd Legislature designated Texas Southern University as a special purpose institution for urban programming. As a result, four more academic units were added - the College of Education, the School of Public Affairs, the School of Communications and the Weekend College.

On May 28, 1923 Texas University discovered oil on their lands. After this first major discovery there were 17 more wells put on their land and they were on their way to making a lot of money. When they received the money from the oil, they built many buildings for the University that are still used today. In 1931 the government split the money between the University of Texas and Texas A&M. In 2008 the total money made off of the oil was $4.4 billion for both Universities. The preparation for the foundation of Texas A&M University was laid in 1862 by the United States Congress with the Morrill Act Adoption. Historically Black Colleges and Universities were established for African Americans during a time of strict segregation. During slavery, to keep African Americans afraid and submissive, White Americans had laws in place making it illegal for them to learn how to read and write. “For most of America’s history, African Americans who received a college education could only get it from an HBCU. The Texas State Historical Association affirms that the city of Austin was established in 1839 as the Republic of Texas and was named after its founder Stephen F. Austin (Humphrey, 2010). Head surveyor Edwin Waller was appointed to plan and construct Austin. Their intent was to have the city ready by the time the Texas congress assembled in November 1839 so they built temporary government buildings at temporary locations (Humphrey, 2010). By October government offices opened, the first church was organized, and the Austin City Gazette, the city’s first newspaper, made its debut. In January of 1840, Waller was elected the town’s first mayor. By that time, the city had 856 inhabitants, including 145 slaves (Humphrey, 2010). Initially

Wofford College is a private coed institution that welcomes students from all walks of life. Wofford is known to be an independent, national liberal arts college. It challenges and exercises the intellect of its student body. It also offers a great range of degrees such as masters, doctorate, and bachelors.

Given that the state was in the South, it was not surprising that the state instituted racial segregation. In the book, “Before Brown: Heman Marion Sweatt, Thurgood Marshall, and the Long Road to Justice” by Gary M. Lavergne, he discussed the entirety of the Sweatt v. Painter case. Lavergne says of Texas, “There were no provisions for what was called “Negro education” of any kind in the Constitution of 1836.” This would soon change after the Civil War. During Reconstruction, the state revised their constitution to include provisions concerning Black education. It was far from equal as the state only used African-Americans funds to support their education. More likely than not, they were poor so the funding for the school paled in comparison when compared to funding for Whites. Although, revisions in the Texas constitution made public education better for Blacks, however, it did not specify higher education. In fact, after the state gain readmission into the Union, the laws shifted again. What was different this time around was that Texas did not have any obligation to ensure their Black citizens equal education. For instance, in article VII, section 14, it discussed the formation of a Black university but it had stipulations. This transition was huge not only for Texas A&M but for their former and upcoming opponents. When undergoing the transition I think that the communities were most affected by the economic changes that were headed their way. Texas A&M University would leave a projected $217.2 million dollar hole in the Big 12 gross product profit, and forfeit about 3,050 jobs (Dosh, Kristi). This is would be a huge deficit for any community or conference to try to come back from. A fear that The Big 12 had was that they would almost need to find a team that is up to par with the Aggies to fill that whole if they wanted to economically survive this transition. I contemplated several people for my second interview; nevertheless, the most logical person that I could interview was Dr. Cieslicka. I have always been fascinated with her European culture, and it became the logical decision.
