The committee of the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation Initiative on the Future of Nursing did a substantial amount of work that eventually resulted in the "Future of Nursing: Leading Change, Advancing Health" report. Quite specifically, this organization was responsible for performing the research that many of the measures of this report were based on. The Committee of the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation Initiative on the Future of Nursing went to the Institute of Medicine and analyzed a number of different data that pertained to the healthcare industry, governmental entities (both at the state and federal levels) and nurses, in particular, before determining a number of specific recommendations that would ultimately provide a positive effect if not a radical transformation for the healthcare industry in the United States.

The impact of iom report on nursing practice particularly on primary care and how you would change your practice to meet the iom report. As you learned in NR302, before any nursing plan of care or intervention can be implemented or evaluated, the nurse conducts an assessment, collecting subjective and objective data from an individual. The data collected are used to determine areas of need or problems to be addressed by the nursing care plan. This assignment will focus on collecting both subjective and objective data, synthesizing the data, and identifying health and wellness priorities for the person. The purpose of the assignment is twofold.

Over the past decades, we have realized, with every passing decade, nursing has become an increasingly integral part of the healthcare services, so that a future without large numbers of nurses is highly impossible to envision. We have also witnessed the drastic changes and advancement that have happened in the field of nursing over the past decades. Nurses have to change their current health care practice in order to meet the growth and also the goals of the IOM report.

Nursing practice is also one of the key messages addressed in the IOM report. The report suggests that “nurses should practice to full extent of their education and training”. Furthermore, “nurses should be full partners with physicians and other health professionals, in redesigning health care in the United States. This report has a great impact on nursing practice. The IOM report suggests that greater focus on managing the transition from nursing to practice. It recommends that regulatory reforms must be made to allow nurses to expand their scope of practice (IOM report, 2010).

In 2008, The Robert Wood Johnson Foundation (RWJF) and the Institute of Medicine (IOM) launched an initiative to assess and reform the nursing profession to address the complex unique nursing needs for the current world. The IOM report published in 2010 calls on nurses to take greater role in the healthcare system by taking leadership roles and obtaining high level education. The report envisions nurses to use their full potential and attain academic progression to redesign the healthcare profession in United States.
