Teaching Philosophy Statement “Teaching is not a profession; it’s a passion. Without passion for your subject and a desire for your students to learn and be the best in the world, then we have failed as a teacher and failure is not an option.” –John F. Podojil. In my opinion, this quotation is very true. If you do not have the passion to teach your students what is right in the world and what makes them be the best they can be, then you are not really teaching your students or you have failed and failure is not an option. I want to not only teach my students important subject manner but be an inspiration to my students as well. When I first thought about this I thought, “Oh my God, I’m going to be a role model for most of the male students in my class!” It’s kind of overwhelming when you think about it. But then I thought, “I’m a great guy and a good hearted individual; I have nothing to worry about except for maybe the first day!” My teaching style will be an eclectic blend of all the teaching philosophies, I think my main teaching philosophy will mostly be a mix of essentialism and existentialism. As a K-8 teacher I feel that you should teach the “traditional” subjects to students this helps to develop their character, which will affect them for the rest of their lives in society. I also believe that students should be able to express themselves in some way throughout the school year by the means of playing games to help them learn to do things and being able to have at least once during the school year a talent day in which the students show their many talents. I might also have the students keep a journal throughout the school year so that they can express their own personal thoughts and feelings for the day on paper. This sometimes helps with students who have emotional problems or problems with other students in the class get their thoughts out so that there may not be as many fights as there could be.
