Majority of cases begin in adolescence and adulthood. The peak age range would be eighteen to thirty year olds. As far as we know it is very rare for a child to have schizophrenia. The age for schizophrenia to appear differs by gender. Women tend to be diagnosed in between twenty and twenty-four. There is a second rise in numbers for women. The second rise begins after the age of forty. Men tend to get it in their twenties. After the age of thirty-five the number of men who develop schizophrenia tends to drop, thus males more likely to have early onset compared to women. “Gender differences may be related to women having more mood disorder and anxiety diagnosis leading to milder forms of schizophrenia going undiagnosed,” (Butcher, 2014). Gender can play a big role when diagnosing schizophrenia.
There are many symptoms that can come with schizophrenia. So people can see and some people are not able to see. The mind of the person can be very different than what we might think is going on. The difference between inward and outward signs can be difficult for a person to notice. Even when looking at brain scans you may not be able to see what is going on in the mind and what might be wrong. The symptoms of schizophrenia fall into three categories; positive, negative and cognitive.
Positive symptoms can some in different forms. Some of the symptoms for positive schizophrenia
In the United States and Europe, schizophrenia occurs in about 3 to 6 of every 10,000 individuals. Schizophrenia occurs equally in males and females; however, the age of onset of the disease is different between the sexes. The primary age of onset in males occurs roughly between the ages of 15 and 25,
First off I would like to tell you what exactly schizophrenia is. Schizophrenia is a brain disease, with concrete and specific symptoms due to physical and biochemical changes in the brain. This illness strikes young people in their prime age usually between 16 and 25. Schizophrenia is almost always treatable with medication. Contrary to what most think schizophrenia is not a "split personality", or caused by childhood trauma, bad parenting, or poverty, and not the result of any action or personal failure by the individual.(3)
According to the World Health Organization, “Schizophrenia is a severe mental disorder, characterized by profound disruptions in thinking; affecting language, perception, and the sense of self”. This serious brain disorder affects around 21 million people worldwide and causes people to interpret reality differently. People with schizophrenia tend to have strange or altered thinking and don't feel connected with themselves. They often go through psychotic experiences such as seeing hallucinations and delusions, or hearing voices. Mental health America states that “Some early warning signs of schizophrenia are confused and bizarre thoughts, increased sensitivity to light, sound, smells, or touch, fearfulness or suspicion that isn't warranted,
The development of schizophrenia can progress slowly or can be a fast, abrupt onset. The onset is usually between the teenage years and mid-thirties. A theory of the PBS channel on what schizophrenia teaches us, states how people become schizophrenic, the genes for schizophrenia can lay dormant until certain circumstances trigger their expression, the diagnosis is mostly based on what the patient reports (Eck, 2014). Each patient presents the onset, signs, and symptoms of schizophrenia in a different way.
We shall begin with a bit of its history, as well as what schizophrenia actually consists of. The word schizophrenia is less than one hundred years old, and means “the splitting of psychic functions.” It affects only about one percent of the world’s population, however those it does affect are comprised of all races and cultures, and socio-economic factors have no effect on who developments schizophrenia. It typically has an onset of late adolescence to early adulthood. BOOK CHAPTER 18, P.467 If a person reaches the age of thirty without being diagnosed with schizophrenia, that person has
Mental health nursing has been around for many years. There are many individuals with different types of mental health issues. Psychosis is an umbrella branch of disorders such as delusional disorder, schizoaffective disorder, and schizophrenia. Schizophrenia has an onset during early adulthood or late adolescence. Every individual with schizophrenia experiences the disease differently depending on the type of schizophrenia and the treatment given. For confidentiality reasons, a pseudonym will be used in this paper as schizophrenia and its treatment is elaborated and looked at in the life of a patient named Mr. H.
Schizophrenia is a disease most often amongst older teenagers and adults. Children rarely have schizophrenia, but it is not impossible. There are three categories of symptoms of schizophrenia: positive, negative, and cognitive. Positive symptoms refer to psychotic behaviors not generally seen in healthy people. These
The symptoms of schizophrenia are wide and varied, typically falling into three main categories, positive symptoms, negative symptoms, and cognitive symptoms. Each of these symptom types affect the patient in different ways, and in different degrees of severity. The symptoms may range from mildly irritating, to severe and debilitating. Positive symptoms are behaviors not normally seen in healthy people. Negative symptoms are behaviors that are usually exhibited in healthy people but are lacking in the patient. Cognitive symptoms are subtle symptoms that affect the patient’s thought processes and cognitive functioning.
The population of the world has to be at least over 7 billion. There also has to be millions of people in the world, whose lives are affected by something psychological. From diseases, disorders, phobias and more. Neurological diseases affect the brain and the behaviors of people diagnosed with them. Although there are many neurological diseases, schizophrenia is one of them. Schizophrenia is one of the more known disorders in the psychological world. Throughout this paper the following questions are answered: what is schizophrenia, what are the causes of schizophrenia, what are some of the types of schizophrenia, and what are the treatment options for those who are diagnosed with schizophrenia?
A person diagnosed with Schizophrenia has a variety of symptoms which are divided into positive and negative symptoms and may vary depending on the severity. Some people might have more positive symptoms while others have more negative symptoms. Both positive and negative symptoms are usually present. The difference is that they are somewhat opposites of each other in how the symptoms are presented.
The symptoms of schizophrenia appear earlier in men than women. Each symptom of schizophrenia varies from person to person. There is not a set of specific symptoms that show whether a person is schizophrenic or not. There are several symptoms that will assist in diagnosing
There are multiple signs and symptoms that people undergo when becoming ill with this disease. Strange use of words, extreme reaction to criticism, depression and being unable to concentrate are only a handful of signs that you could have schizophrenia. People may or may not undergo these signs as stated above, but there are also
Schizophrenia is not a disease that can be terminated or cut off like a tumor. It is a long lasting disease that stays forever making it hard for people to sense what is going on. The feeling of schizophrenia is the same as if the mind started playing tricks on you. No emotions will be felt and one wont be able to reason. The first symptom of schizophrenia is if a person experiences change in their senses, either sharpening or dulling. Another symptom is difficulties socializing with others because of the lack of senses. This is the reason behind them withdrawing and isolating themselves. They may also have trouble feeling or making sense of incoming stimuli or evokes from others, making it hard to focus on simple activities. Schizophrenia
It occurs at the same rate in males as it does in females, though average males seem to be more severely disabled than females (Chapman 1). All social classes are affected by schizophrenia though in large cities about three or four times more frequent in lower classes than in middle or upper classes. This disease usually develops in late adolescence or early adulthood but may develop later. Childhood schizophrenia is relatively rare, but does exist.
The onset of symptoms usually occurs in late adolescence or early adulthood, although they can appear later in life as well. Because the level of cognitive impairment associated with schizophrenia is so debilitating, many with the disorder experience a severely diminished quality of life and are unable to maintain employment, function socially, or live independently. In west, the accepted course of treatment for schizophrenia is antipsychotic medication along with cognitive therapy.
