Academics: 53. Talk Pad: This device can be useful in helping a child with phonics. The button can be prerecorded with a sound from 3-4 “sound” words. Then, the child chooses the card to match with the recorded sound. 54. Voice In The Box: Can be used many ways to support academic skills. 55. Overhead projector: Some benefits to using an overhead projector are the following: a. Allowing the child to do math work on overhead transparencies; b. Teaching the child spelling words via the overhead projector; c. Focusing on reading comprehension by having the child fill-in-the blank for various questions regarding understanding of previously read materials; d. Focusing on mechanics of writing using the overhead projector. “High” Tech …show more content…
Video Taping: Students with autism are motivated and attentive to videos. They especially enjoy the repetitive viewing due to “predictability.” a. Language comprehension skills: Videotaping can be used to teach receptive vocabulary skills and to complete various routines. b. Social skills: Video taped segments can be made of social areas in which the child is struggling with. Non-verbal social communications can also be taught through videotaping. Moreover, videotapes can be used to demonstrate how to interact in various social situations. c. Expressive language skills: Video tapes can be used to teach expressive vocabulary skills the same way as receptive vocabulary skills. d. Self-help skills: Videotape can demonstrate skills such as getting dress, brushing your teeth and more. e. Emotions: People’s facial expressions at various emotional state can be recorded to demonstrate emotions/feelings. f. Academics: Academic writing skills such as drawing and writing the alphabet can also be demonstrated through videos. 57. Computers: Students with autism are highly motivated by computers. Camilla K. Hileman (11) states that computers are motivating to children with autism, due to their predictability and consistency, compared to the unpredictable nature of human
I have always been fascinated, though, by the brain processes the individuals with autism go through and how their perception of the world and communication gets affected by this disability. The Autism App wheel categorized each app by the area the student could get a benefit from for improvement and I found it extremely well-detailed. I usually keep a copy of all my school work but I will make sure that I keep an eye on this chart as I can definitely see myself using it in the future with my students. When working with students with autism, I must likely need to keep in mind their struggles with sensory. I need to make sure that my future lesson plans will include differentiated materials that will address a particular’s student needs in a way that he can access the general education curriculum and at the same time with a bigger goal of implementing everything being taught in the classroom to be translated to the real world. AT services and devices could be my best allies when trying to accomplish
“Never underestimate a child with autism. It’s their differences that make them unique and beautiful.” Autism can be defined as a pervasive developmental disorder characterized by severe deficits is social interaction and communication, by an extremely limited range of activities and interests, and often by the presence of repetitive, stereotyped behaviors. Children that are being diagnosed with autism spectrum disorder have increased at a rapid rate in the last decade. Some of the reasons it is becoming more prevalent in society is due to improved diagnoses, broader array of conditions falling within the range of autism, and increased rates of autism in the general population. As a result the number of autistic children in the general classrooms has increased leaving teachers to create strategies that work within their own classrooms to accommodate every student. Teachers are required to prepare students for the classroom with intervention techniques, make specific changes in their classroom based on the students in their class, utilize collaboration among professionals, create supportive interactions among peers, and create a classroom that support student/teacher differences.
Using video rather than anecdotal notes for capturing traveling skill is better because you have a visual imagine of exactly what they are doing. It’s easier to record them traveling rather than taking notes about how they explore traveling skills. With a video you miss nothing whereas taking notes, checklist, or pictures you can miss the most important moment.
Audio- visual aids are basically a kind of instructional tools, which can play a significant
For my project I plan to learn or teach autistic children to use everyday skills and teach them how to embrace those skills. I’ve studied what Autistic children struggle with vas what normal children struggle with and how they compare to each other. I have worked with children before and know how to handle children with a behavioral issue, be patient and handle things accordingly. I hope to teach a client of my own and be able to help achieve my goal to answer my big question.
It has been found that tutored self-instruction using videotaped stimuli is an effective way to teach speechreading (Lonka, 1995; Tye-Murray
The use of a video as a stimulus contributed to the quality of engagement of other students in our CoI by providing information about our topic and promoting interest, leading to further investigation and discussion (Salton, Burke & Maxwell, 2015). Making this observation highlighted the importance of selecting appropriate stimulus for the inquiry I was planning in my lesson sequence. When developing my lesson sequence I ensured that I chose a stimulus that will connect to and develop the students’ prior knowledge and encourage discussion and promote further questioning (Fahey, 2012; Salton et al.,
PSV-Lab is a web-based environment simulating a school laboratory designed to support ICT-assisted, individualized interventions for students with ASD. It is accessible by any device (PC, notebook, tablet or smartphone) using just a browser. It includes a series of tasks related to pre-vocational skills that adolescents and young adults need to achieve, like attention to details, visual-motor coordination, insistence, self-evaluation, familiarization with objects and working routines etc. Therefore, PSV-Lab aims to help students with autism to develop the skills and self-confidence needed for a successful rehabilitation and a stable transition from school to the working place.
These audio examples might consist of meetings, pointers, podcasts or radio shows. Instructors that teach physical skills you could wish to utilize videos to show the correct method to finish particular tasks. For instance, it's a lot easier to show someone how to suggest instead of write the instructions in am article or digital book. The visual aspect of some abilities is very important to discovering and also video is a far better style to present this sort of training.
While applying an audio-visual approach, pronunciation is stressed, lessons with dialogues are utilized, and mimicry and memorization are used. In a cognitive approach the instruction is often individualized, so students are responsible for their own learning. While using a communicative approach, the goal of language teaching is learner ability to communicate in the target language (Celce-Murcia, 2001). These approaches integrated in software programs support new learning skills more effectively than classical methods for language learning. Beatty (2003) states that the application of CALL might be helpful for learners in improving their reading, writing, listening and speaking skills, as well as encouraging autonomy in learning, and for teachers in improving their teaching skills since it can be integrated into research and
Mr. West’s class is very engaging to students and I have rarely seen this level of engagement around film outside of college classrooms. His theory and practice is heavily placed on film criticism and theory. His assignments are about deeply analyzing what you see in the films and in your own world. I think it’s why he’s a successful teacher. Video is a very persuasive medium. Mary Spont summed up the thought about video perfectly when she stated.

Teaching should be multifaceted for English learners and express developing understanding through visual, tactile, emotional and auditory means. Students need to see the teacher’s body language and facial expressions to fully understand the content of the lesson. Pictures and other visual display are including diagrams, illustrated books, overhead transparencies, videos hand outs and flip charts. In the classroom, a visual learner can often prefer to take detailed notes to absorb information. An auditory learner may learn through suing listening skills and may learn bets by verbal lectures, talking things through and listening to what their peers or other may have to day, and discussions. These learners interpret the underlying meanings of speech through listening to voice, and the tone of voice. These learners may benefit from leading aloud text, listening from their peers, or a sound device such as an audio book. Tactile students may learn best through hands on approach, using the physical world and may

Exercise 6: The students watch the video and the teacher pauses it in the middle. The students discuss what they’ve seen and have to guess what is going to happen next. Then they can watch the rest and see if they were right. This exercise improves the listening and speaking
