The most significant idea I have encountered this year is that in order to become successful, we need to maintain a strong work ethic. I developed this idea from a combination of leadership skills that I have gained and applied in different environments, and participation in various activities this past year. Work ethic is comprised of maintaining a strong sense of responsibility, teamwork, discipline, and integrity. As a student and worker, I have learned that I need to possess responsibility for my actions and duties, collaborate with classmates and colleagues in order to achieve our overarching goals and missions, and remain focused and determined in achieving our short term and long term goals. We need to maintain a high level of dedication towards our visions. Additionally, as leaders within our educational institutions and the workforce, …show more content…
Nothing is weighted higher. The idea that we need to maintain a strong work ethic in order to be successful is very significant to me, because it allows me to recognize that I am capable of achieving the goals that my family and I cherish. I am a first generation Latino student who has a strong desire of achieving the American dream. I maintain strong devotion and passion, and I strongly believe that I am capable of achieving great success and prosperity through hard work. I will attend Lipscomb University, and major in Accounting. With a strong work ethic, I will achieve the success that I have desired my entire life. As I work towards my academic and professional goals at Lipscomb University, I will continue relying upon my perseverance, responsibility, and integrity. I will continue applying the skills that I have gained throughout my educational experiences and in the workforce, to my college experience and other post-secondary opportunities in order to become successful and accomplish my American
There are few things that are extremely important in life, and I am positive they vary from person to person. Mine form a triangle including family and friends, education, and a hard work ethic. Without one or the other, they all fail. Without a work ethic, I would never have the motivation to get an education, or even attempt to prosper in life. Having a strong work ethic is a characteristic that everyone should have in order to be successful. My work ethic was driven by my parents at a young age and this helps me to gain respect for bosses, professors, and coworkers. It also gave me dedication through hard work, during my high school volleyball season. Lastly, my hard work ethic gives me inspiration for my current education and future
One of the things that helped me grow as a leader is the topics of the essays I wrote. I wrote about inspiration and motivation, the animal I am (owl), magnanimity, integrity, and How Full is Your Bucket. By writing an essay on inspiration and motivation I learned Motivational leadership is being able to inspire people to go above and beyond their best. Leaders also need to inspire him/herself, to have the capability to be kind to the people they’re working with. You need to be respectful, because your team will work much better when they know that they have your respect and with respect they will get motivated to work better. You also need to listen to your team, because sometimes you need to step back and let someone else talk so they can participate. When writing about what animal I am, I really went deep into who I am and what is my leadership style. I learned an owl views conflicts as problems to be solved. The owl confronts the problem, seeking solutions that will satisfy everyone involved. I see myself as an owl most of the time because as a leader, you need to be able to stop a problem and make it better. When I was writing and researching about magnanimity I learned to never brags about my work or do anything for money. I do it with a great heart, noble mind, and a generous spirit. You make sure everyone in the committee has equal praise, instead of one person taking all the credit. When I was writing about how
According to author John C. Maxwell, “Good leadership isn’t about advancing yourself;it’s about advancing your team.” Much like Maxwell’s quote, I strive to advance my peers and my fellow students at South Florence High School. In my years at South Florence I’ve done my best to lead and be an example at this school by not only participating in clubs, but by doing my best academically. One thing that coincides with great leadership skills is a strong sense and acceptance of diversity in our school environment. Attending a school with a diverse student body helps prepare students for the culturally and ethnically diverse nation which we will be entering after we graduate and begin our lives.
According to John Quincy Adams “ If your actions inspire others to dream more, learn more, do more and becoming more, you are a leader.” Throughout my years in Mater Academy East, I have always strive to get the best grades possible. While inspiring others to do the same. I have been a member of The Cat Network for a year. The Cat Network is a non-profit corporation that is dedicated to save animals from the wrong hands. This non-profit corporation has taught me a lot about the importance of communication, helping out the community, and working in a team environment. I plan to use all my experience to Inspire and help students to achieve their goals.
At Poe Middle School, my mentor Ms. Adams interact with her co-workers, students and parents by stressing the "core value of respect, integrity, cooperation and care for one another.” Every time she walks down the hallway and hears students disrespecting each other, putting each other down or using foul language, she stops them and corrects their behavior. When there was a situation in the classroom between a teachers and a student, Ms. Adams cooperates with teacher request. She has built relationships with her teachers and they trust her. Ms. Adams’s students know she cares for them because she frequently ask them about their siblings or family members. I would improve this strategy by having daily announcements about each of these core values. I would choose one for the week and would expect to see students, faculty and staff practice it throughout the week. The next week the school would practice another core value for the week. We would do this all year long.
At this conference we learned better leadership skills, as well as how powerful we can be. A breakthrough session taught us that anything we set our mind to can be done. Never have I before broken a board in half with the palm of my hand. But within thirty minutes of this session I was defying the odds. The speaker related this concept back to student leadership. Whatever our goals may be for the year, we can do if we set our mind to accomplishing them. At the conference we set our goals for the year and started planning the greatness that was ahead of
Work hard, save money, and enjoy the fruits of your labor. We have all been told that if we do the right thing, we will be rewarded in the end. The argument for the Protestant work ethic has been conveyed biblically to mean that God has given us all a divine vocation, a set of skills in which to “work in His glory” (“Work: a noble”, 1992). Martin has followed the teachings of Christ by working his entire life, saving strenuously, and wisely investing his dividends. Finally, it has come time for Martin to enjoy the yields of living the right way and his enjoyment has been stolen by various aspects of property law. Kubasek, Brennan, and Browne (2006) explain the two types of property that apply in Martin’s cases, “real property, that is,
was raised by my parents to never lose sight of my goals and to always have a positive work ethic. My parents were born in India and they moved to Canada in hopes that their children could have a better life. They work hard everyday so that my siblings and I do not have to quit school like they did. My greatest eye opening experience was when I started working with my mother as a general factory worker in grade ten. The working conditions were very tough in which we stood for long hours and we had to be constantly working quickly. I met many great women and men who were new immigrants and heard their struggles in their birth country. However, despite all of the pressure they were thankful for their job and to be living in Canada. At the young
I believe in the principle of working hard, and I believe sports are the reason I am who I am today. My whole life my parents pounded into my head the importance of hard work. I had heard this idea so many times, I never really understood what it meant, I just knew it must be important. As I grew up, I realized how many amazing things sports have taught me, and I am thankful for the work ethic I have now, because of sports.
I have heard my grandpa say “times have changed” about a hundred times, but I normally just let it go in one ear and out the other. Last Saturday when he told me “times have changed” really caught my attention. That phrase made me realize for the first time that my generation has become self-centered. Self-centered is a person who only thinks about themselves, their own need and their own interest. Self-centered people do not do anything people tell them to do, and they think everything is about them. These types of people act like the world owes them something. However, today’s generation tends to be more self-centered than earlier generations.
I grew up with a strong work ethic. My family was in the farming and dairy business, they worked hard and saved, so I was taught to be frugal. I married young, out of high school. The marriage didn’t work and I was left with three children to support and raise. I did so by starting a cleaning service, eventually it grew to the point I had six employees, however I did not have enough education to know how to expand and make it really successful. Because I had sole responsibility of raising a young family, I had no time to further my education and in those days, there were no online courses. LOL, now I’m telling you my age. After the children were grown and moved away from home, I decided to slow down and not work as hard as it had begun to take
I am currently a sophomore at Alter High School in Kettering, Ohio. So far I have two years of varsity experience in both lacrosse and wrestling. I am a captain of the wrestling team and my goal is to be voted a captain for the lacrosse team next year. My biggest goal as of now is trying to get in both an academically and athletically prestigious school. I would be a different candidate from most others because of two main characteristics I have; work ethic and toughness. My biggest advantage over others is knowing that I can out-work them no matter who they are and have the mental toughness to carry me through it. Thank you for looking at my profile and feel free to contact
While I was in high school I wasn’t fully committed to my studies and believed I didn’t have the potential it took to get into college. I graduated high school early when I first turned 17 through a early graduated program because I followed the wrong crowd and believed I wouldn’t be accepted to a university anyways. After I graduated high school I wanted to move out on my own and get a low paying job and apartment so I could support myself because I was always worried about being a burden to my family. Struggling to make ends meet every month really gave me a good work ethic because this was the first time I experienced having to make ends-meet. I worked until the end of my 6-month lease and eventually ended up moving back in with my parents
This is a case study on A New Work Ethic written by James Sheehy a human resources manager. According to the Business Dictionary (2011) ethic is define as the basic concepts and fundamental principles of right human conduct. It includes study of universal values such as the essential equality of all men and women, human or natural rights, obedience to the law of land, concern for health and safety and, increasingly, also for the natural environment.
This essay is solely based on students’work ethic from my own personal experience. During my employment as a hostess of Pepper Jack's. I worked with many student employees, most like me in high school. I would say over three quarters of the employees were students. I quickly noticed that all my fellow employees showed up for work. The quality of service towards the customers and the cleanliness and safety of the restaurant was at the top of every employee’s personal list. Every part of their job duties were always completed in a timely manner and with no complaints. They made every customer feel welcome, from the time they walked in to the restaurant until they left. By the time the restaurant closed we were not employees any more, we were a
