So it is important for social workers to avoid assumption and a discriminatory practice. There are many theories can provide an exploration to child abuse like the psychodynamic or socio-biological or a families disfunctioning theories, but sometimes their maybe multiple reasons and theories to child abuse. A social worker may identify the risk factors causing abuse and keep in mind that some families are more vulnerable than others. Depending on agencies that are dealing with the family, different personal will attend a child protection conference (social workers, police, parents/carers, nurses, teachers, housing welfare, etc). It is down to the local authority to do their investigation into suspected child abuse, under confidentiality, and cooperate with different agencies to prevent this issue. Guide and procedures should be adapted in individual cases, they are produced by the area child protection committee (ACPC) through a handbook that is distributed to a social worker and professionals who engage in child protection; the ACPC role is to asses co-working issues, identify agencies training needs, that establish a strong links between agencies, promote a good practice and review the information regarding the operation of child protection register and publish an annual report.

Their occupation is based upon advocacy and social justice. In addition to this, it is crucial for the social worker to know everything about child abuse. This ranges from the signs and symptoms of it, to knowing how to react to these situations based on medical and psychological impact. The social workers at Wynona’s House must be resilient and patient. Having these qualities makes room for effective procedures because the psychosocial examinations usually last up to 2 and a half hours. More than one examination occurs each day. Lastly, social workers here must be committed to their work to fully lend a helping
The traing gave me insight on how social workers should conduct service, the techniques to use for services and proper ways in which to render services. It gave me insight on what type of questions to ask, how to explain and establishing expectations, how to get family engaged with services and how to notice different types of stress responses. It also help me to undestand stress managemet in reference to myself as well as the client and family. I welcomed the fact that a pre-test was given before jumping stright into the learning process. I also welcome the fact that I can return to the cite and take additional trainging if I wish to do so. This leaves a open door for me to brush up on different skills, techniques with the learning materials
I am ready and willing to learn but I think I will have some problems with the language, I have been in the country for a couple of years and this time my English has improved but I still have a long way to go in order to be perfect and I believe that an higher education career can help me to achieve this goal as well, I think is possible to find a bit of obstacles in group presentations and group works as the meeting day and time as to be good for each member of the group, that can be challenging but not impossible.
During my undergraduate studies, I acquired the necessary background of knowledge by taking different social work classes, such as policy, research methods, basic skills, individuals and families, and
As a public child welfare social worker, our interest is the safety and well-being of a child. In this case, we are dealing with a 10 year old boy, named Eddie who is allegedly a victim of child abuse. It is reported that Eddie is being mistreated by his father for receiving bad grades. Once a home visit was conducted, the mother informed us that her husband is in fact physically abusing their son for receiving bad grades. Since, the father has an assault record and is physically abusing the child it is clearly evident that Eddie is not safe in this household. As a child welfare social worker, we must conduct our own research to ensure that the other two children aren’t in any danger or being neglected.
The Child Prevention and Treatment Act is identified in this paper. Starting with identifying and explaining this act and it also gives the purpose of the act. The next section talks about the policy history. It talks about the first case of abuse to show how this act came into place and why. Then it begins to identify what is currently happening in regards to child abuse and if the act is effectively working according to its purpose. After it talks about two different viewpoints of how many people define abuse. Lastly it states whether the policy is recommended and if it is politically and economically feasible.
When did you first become interested in social work? Identify the events and/ or people most influential in developing your interest?
I've learned the goals of a social worker because of this class. Professional Roles and Responsibilities states that a social worker “must remind our nation and its leaders about how the social work profession helped make the United States a compassionate world leader in the last century and that social workers continue to advocate for social justice and provide necessary services for all citizens” (2015). I have appreciated this class and its objectives. Helping troubled families was one of the best social workers classes I have had taken. This is because I learned more about myself, my family, and the helping profession. I give thanks to challenges when they come my way. If it wasn’t for the challenges I experienced in this course, I wouldn’t have grown or learned as much as I did. Although challenges can be difficult to manage, if you have a life free of challenges, you would never grow and never be able to live up to your full potential. When I look back on every challenge I faced through this class, I notice they have played an important role in my life. This course helped me grow in a personal and professional way. I can't wait to continue to learn more about myself, my family and the helping profession. Leaving this class, I feel well prepared to help others as a social
I met with Decora and Paul on Friday, March 4, 2015 from 7pm to 8:30pm. We discussed our experiences with our internships. We reviewed what we like, and challenges we have faced. Decora discussed a case that she is struggling with. She reported that the client is in a domestic violence situation. The client is being abused, and she is also the abuser. Decora reported that the client’s boyfriend is abusing the client’s children, and her children were recently taken away from her. Decora stated that she is frustrated because the client was recently with the abusive boyfriend again, and she feels that this will be a repeat cycle. Decora also reported that the client was recently arrested for stabbing her boyfriend. We discussed
I am motivated to study this course as I relish helping people who are in need or come from a disadvantaged background and I believe that this degree will allow me a career in doing so. One aspect of social work that I am particularly passionate about is that at it gives an opportunity to observe social injustice or inequality and then provide the opportunity to make positive alteration to an individuals life. I am highly anticipating further study in the psychology modules and how they relate to human development and social work.
You’re a Youth Social Worker called out to a school to assess a child. Once in front of the child they say “I want to kill myself and never go back”. As a Youth Social worker in today’s society, you never know what’s going to come across your desk. You wonder, what are you going to see or hear when talking to them? How do you help? Will you be able to gain their trust? Will you be able to handle the stress? These are some of the questions that will be addressed.
Domestic violence as well as child abuse has become a serious threat to the well-being of people. If adults in most cases can protect themselves, children appear to be particularly vulnerable in when they face violence. According to the State Law, child protection is one of the most important functions of police work, therefore the police must immediately react to all alarm signals pointing to child abuse.
Have you ever met someone who has made his or her struggles the key to his or her success? In the social work profession, the primary goal is to aid and empower individuals or families who are faced with oppression, vulnerable in society, and living in poverty (Code of Ethics, 2008). Social workers strive to improve the welfare of those who need assistance meeting their daily basic essentials for survival. According to Abraham Maslow’s Hierarchy of Basic needs, a person requires five clusters to make them an integrated and self-motivated whole in society. The five clusters include: physiological needs; security needs; social needs; self-esteem needs; and self-actualizing needs (Aanstoos, 2014). The Code of Ethics is an important component that ensures that the profession is held to its highest standard and to protect the community. In this paper, the intern was placed at the Mobile County Department of Human Resources in the Adult Protective Services department and will be disclosing information about a particular case during their internship. To protect the clients and all parties associated confidentially within this case, material that could reveal their identity will not be discussed and only relevant information about the case will be addressed. The clients in this case have been both diagnosed with agoraphobia with panic disorder. According to the Social Work Dictionary (2014) agoraphobia is described as “an irrational and persistent fear of being in unfamiliar places or of leaving one’s home” (Baker, p. 13). Agoraphobia with panic disorder is a difficult
Child abuse is horrible and it affects everyone in one way or another. Before 1963, there were no laws to protect the kids from abuse but thanks to social workers and other judicial people, there were laws passed (Pfohl). This paper is going to explain why it is so important for social workers to protect kids by talking about this history of abuse and why social workers need to be around. It will also discuss what social workers do today to prevent kids from being hurt. Social workers are useful in just about every aspect of life but in my opinion this is one of the more important jobs of a social worker because your protecting those of the future. Abuse isn’t just
