Social problems are a part of life and affects every human being in one form or another. It does not discriminate against gender, ethnical social economic boundaries in the society or world we live in. As social worker, according to standard (NASW) that guide the profession, have given the challenge to create, design, and implement policies that addresses those social problems. One of the social problem that is on a major challenge is “ISIS”, Islamic State of Iraq and Syria and Islamic State of Iraq and al-Sham. “The group claims religious authority over all Muslims and aspires to a macro state which includes many countries in the Middle East: Cyprus, Jordan, Kuwait, Israel, Lebanon, Palestine, and part of Syria. ISIS is known for its uncompromising …show more content…
Firstly, it was the adoption of the un-Islamic methodology of classifying civilians as acceptable targets in war. Secondly, TJ declared war on Iraqi Shias in response to many of their prominent leaders collaborating with US forces in attacking predominantly Sunni villages and towns, under the justification of fighting Al Qaeda. The US’s relationship with Shia leaders, who were now the new stakeholders in post-Saddam Iraq, was arguably the sole factor which led to the “unintended consequences” that facilitated the emergence of ISIS (Hussain, …show more content…
ISIS has no boundaries in regard to its savagery. In late August 2014, members of the group beheaded American journalist James Foley in apparent retaliation for U.S. airstrikes that targeted ISIS. After his death, the U.S. announced that troops had attempted to rescue him and other U.S. hostages, but they were unable to locate them. ISIS said Steven Sotloff, another kidnapped American journalist, would be killed if the airstrikes continued. President Barack Obama referred to ISIS as a "cancer." ISIS released a video showing the beheading of Sotloff, 31, who worked for Time and other news outlets. ISIS beheaded a third victim, 44-year-old British aid worker David Cawthorne Haines. Alan Henning, a British taxi driver who delivered aid to Syrian refugees, was killed by ISIS in early. The group treats women and girls with particular brutality. Through militants gang rape women prisoners and marry off young girls to fighters. In September 2014, ISIS militants kidnapped and tortured Iraqi lawyer and women's rights advocate Sameera Salih Ali al-Nuaimy before executing her in public. As you can see ISIS has developed there campaign which has proved to be skilled at using social media, high-quality videos, and an online magazine, Dabiq, as both recruiting and propaganda tools
The disbanding of the Iraqi army and “debathification” or dismantling of the government in place only served to increase the casualties of American troops and Iraqi civilians as the radical Sunni insurgency expanded. This point of cause and effect, clash of two distinct political and cultural worlds, defined this war for the generation serving, at home and the future generations. The threat of increasing terrorism after the attack of September 11, 2001 was one of the driving force of invasion of Iraq. However, in one analysis the increase of global terrorism today is told to be well contributed by the conflicts that were fueled by the western presence in Iraq and the surrounding
A modern issue that is affecting our nation is the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria also known as ISIS. ISIS is noted to be a terrorist group that has caused many attacks against the United States of America and many other countries. Their goal is to build a caliphate state (Pierpaoli, 2015). ISIS uses “persecution and extermination” to those who enter its territories or go against them. This is a problem because ISIS is currently a threat to the United States. The people affected by this problem are the citizens of the U.S. the people in the Middle East, and their allies, France and
Dictatorships are corrupt, but jihadist terrorist groups are far more destructive. Could it have been failed regime change which created a political vacuum that enabled ISIS to seize power? Critical mistakes made by America helped to construct the malicious growth of ISIS which in turn, suggests this was indeed the case. The theoretical idea that America has established international conflicts which sparked the rise of Isis is relevant to today’s world. Regardless of the fact that this is a controversial topic, it is hazardous to the numerous lives around the globe.
An American journalist is driving towards the Syrian border. Suddenly his car is attacked and he is forced out of his car and held at gunpoint. 635 long, torturous days go by as he is held captive by the most dangerous terrorist group imaginable. He knows that his fate is almost sealed, and he is living in a state of constant fear. One day, he is forced into an orange prisoner suit, taken out into the desert with a knife held to his throat, and forced onto his knees. He is shaking violently. He hears a language that has sadly become much too familiar to him, speaking violently towards a camera. He realizes that he is being recorded and then he is beheaded. This was the last moment of James Foley’s life, and sadly, three other innocent people experienced the exact same fate. Innocent lives are taken every day by the most dangerous terrorist threat in today’s world. Religious minorities walk around with targets on their backs, and thousands of Americans, US military troops, Shia, Yazidis, and Christian civilizations are being targeted every day by the horrifying terrorist group that is ISIS. Anyone who dares stand in the way of The Islamic State is at risk of losing their lives. As a social studies
The Islamic State, also known as ISIS of ISIL, has continued to arouse much untold terror throughout the Middle East region for more than four years, since 2011. The recent violence there underscores the seriousness of the issue and the urgency of those people living in the refugee camps. These refugees migrated to these camps to escape the militants’ attack on their homes and properties. The victims to much destruction and hardship, these Syrians will not be returning to their native homeland any time soon, and they can only hope that a genocidal tragedy like the Holocaust will never blossom in
Unlike other terrorists groups whose main purpose is to enforce terrorism around the world, ISIS’ brutal strategies are how they defend their beliefs and protect their land (Chavez). ISIS has been able to obtain a majority of their land even with U.S. led coalition strikes and ground operations; they control much of the Tigris-Euphrates river basin, northern central Iraq, and northern Syria and seek to control every aspect of their land in each city and town, including essential roads, oil fields, and military facilities (BBC). “In March [of] 2015, the president of the International Committee of the Red Cross [estimated there to be] more than 10 million people [living under ISIS control]” (BBC). Inside areas where ISIS imposes its austere rendition of Sharia, another way to say the “framework” of Islam, women wear full veils, public beheadings are a daily routine, and those who refuse this way of life are forced to supply the government with a certain tax, convert, or choose death
In current media there are constant stories of terror attacks including bombings, shootings, and sieges. Many of these assaults have been undertaken by the religious extremist group, ISIS (Islamic State of Iraq and Syria), which have stemmed from the basic religious teachings of
It’s very clear that ISIS want’s power, but at what cost? Their five minutes of fame won’t make up for the lives of the soldiers and civilians that they kill, the emotional scarring of Iraqi children, and destroyed buildings. On August 19, 2014, ISIS announced the execution of James Foley, an American journalist who was working in Iraq. The group recorded his execution and posted it on the internet, where it went viral and was reviewed by
There is no denying that Muslims are treated differently now, and ISIS has seen that and has used that to their advantage. ”Some are alienated by harassment or discrimination against Muslims at home, and want to join what they see as a pro-Muslim movement. Some, according to the ISD, enjoy the shocking violence. The ISD study, which examined the social-media postings of Western women who joined ISIS, found the women "celebrate the violence of ISIS, unequivocally."” (Why girls join) In the past women were seen as the people in society that would never condone violence, but the changing role of women has also changed the way they see violence. ISIS wants to find people who celebrates another western terrorist dying, and they do not care what gender. They have found a new demographic and because of that they are increasing the amount of people willing to commit acts of terror. Females often long for the sense of family and community, and when that is taken away since they can easily go into a state of depression, especially if that is all they have, “And for some women, there are benefits to joining ISIS. Many are given free housing and food. Others find a sense of camaraderie and sisterhood" (Why girls join). IS has invaded many Middle Eastern countries and turned them into war zones and has left thousands of people dead or living in terrible conditions. ISIS promises the people that are barely living everything that they desire. This can consist of a safe home, food, water, and most importantly the feeling of community once again. ISIS has created a plan to ensure that people will join the “cause”, and everything they have done, whether it was creating social media accounts or raiding countries for all of their belongings has had an end goal of getting
As is evident throughout US history, our dependence on foreign oil continued into the 1990s and once again it created conflict. Turmoil in the Middle East threatened the supply of oil once again.
Some of those major events are, in October 2006-al-Qaeda leader Abu Yyub al-Masri announces the creation of Islamic State of Iraq, and establishes AbuOmar al-Baghdadi as its leader. In May 2014 ISIS kidnaps more than 140 Kurdish schoolboys in Syria, forcing them to take lessons in radical Islamic theology, according to London-based monitoring group Syrian Observatory for Human Rights. In June 9-10 ISIS frees up to 1,000 prisoners. Then later in June on the 30th, The Pentagon announces the United States is sending an additional 300 troops to Iraq, bringing the total U.S. forces in Iraq to nearly 800. The government has greater responsibility to keep people safe and protect instead of caring about other things. To feel welcome in the country families need their rights kept. These persons who work in the government, they don’t follow the laws, they take the money From the country and travel or buy big houses, that means they don’t work for Iraq they only work for their benefits. On 2011 my family and I were living in Iraq, Baghdad. In a big house (4 bedrooms, 2 living rooms, and two bedrooms). Passed down to feel like a heaven living in this house. In a cold day in December we were all sitting in the same living room because in winter, it is hard to keep a big house warm. At 7 PM we heard hard door knocking. For seconds I thought it was someone
Summary: In Serte, Libya; more than 50 people were hung, tortured, and murdered by the terror group ISIS. This has been going on since February of 2015 and it has been a constant issue. They say the group even has a kill list with thousands of supposed enemies that they must kill or they will corrupt their group.
In order to fully interpret the nation of Iraq’s holistic condition during and after the Saddam Era, Social, Political, and Economic factors must be weighed accordingly and in contrast to each other. In order to do this, the span of years leading up to 1989, and
One is left with many questions to answer when she/he tries to figure out if there exists any relationship between Sharia Law and Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS) human rights record. The world has experienced a series of killings in the name of religion and political interests that have given the human rights watch a hard task to take. Most human rights violations are rampant in certain regions of the world dominated by the Islamic religion. The world has also experienced wars between Islamic and non-Islamic states. In order to get to the root cause of human rights violations, it is important to understand what the Sharia law is and the human rights reports on the ISIS.
