Social Justice

Social justice is the combined effort of a society to promote liberty and equality for all of it’s citizens. To achieve this a society must speak up against injustices and social systems that promote injustices so that action can be taken to stop injustices and destroy unjust social systems in order to create a more equal and just society. As students we are already in a privileged position therefore if we choose to be socially just people it is our duty to study not only study in order to succeed for ourselves but to study how our future success could be beneficial to society as a whole. Our privilege gives us greater power to have an effect on society therefore we should do our best not to conform to preexisting social norms if we feel like they promote injustices. After we graduate we will have the skills to promote great amounts of social change and it is on us to turn away from unjust social systems and instead work for what might not be the most profitable but what promotes the most social

SOCIAL JUSTICE refers to the concept of a society in which justice is involved or achieved in every aspect in life. As part of individuality in the society they have to have social justice

According to the NASW Code of Ethics, social justice means upholding the conditions that in a perfect world all citizens would have identical rights, protection, opportunities, obligations, and social benefits, regardless of their backgrounds and membership in diverse groups. This means that regardless of any differences, every person should receive the same treatment. For instance, an elderly person and a growing family, a black person and a white person, a homeless person and a person who has a place to stay, all deserve the same treatment. All of these people deserve the same access to help.

Social justice is the fairness or reasonableness of proper and fair treatment, especially when it comes to the way people are treated or how decisions are made, with its major focus and concern for human well-being, which needs a thoughtful commitment to the public’s health. To assure that right actions and decisions are taken to protect, promote, and provide for the

"Social justice is what faces you in the morning. It is awakening in a house with adequate water supply, cooking facilities and sanitation. It is the ability to nourish your children and send them to school where their education not only equips them for employment but reinforces their knowledge and understanding of their cultural inheritance. It is the prospect of genuine employment and good health: a life of choices and opportunity, free from discrimination" (Dodson, 1993).

I am committed to social justice. My life started off rough coming out of an abusive home. I have worked so hard to get myself to a place where I can help kids that were in an abusive home and have trauma like me. I am a Criminal Justice major here at Westfield State University. My end goal is to help kids in bad living situations. I want to help juveniles that haven't taken the straight path like I did. I feel as though I can help them see that your background doesn't matter, but handwork and passion does. I have experience that not many people have. I can touch these kids in a way that others can't. I want to lead them to a path of greatness and use their painful past as fuel to make an amazing future.

So, you might be wondering what social justice is. Well, social justice is when there’s a balance between all people. When, everyone’s pay and privilege are equal, and it’s when people keep their social groups inclusive. Some social justice that you can see today is when Australia legalized Gay marriage enabling people in same sex marred to be legally recognized as married.

According to the San Diego Foundation, "social justice is the view that everyone deserves equal economic, political and social rights and opportunities" (2016). When I first saw this term, I was thinking of it in a different context. After reading this specific definition, it holds more weight. I think that social justice is very important, especially in the current political climate. Social justice, as a concept, is something that society thinks they are upholding. However, there are many instances where people are not given equal opportunities or access to resources. Social justice isn't limited to race or gender. There are so many different aspects of ourselves that people can discriminate individual about. These include, but are not limited

Social justice is the distribution of difference in society and is based on equality and its opportunity.

The term social justice is normally used when referring to the ideas of equality and providing equal opportunities to pupils within school, regardless of their background, history or circumstances. Views of social justice can change depending on who is discussing the topic.

Oftentimes, the definition of social justice can be misinterpreted or misunderstood. The true definition of social justice is often structured by governmental implications but is the fair and proper administration of laws to each individual conforming to the natural law. Equality is supposed to be equally distributed amongst individuals nationally, but can sometimes be taken advantage of and be taken away from people who deserve it the most. Generally, those who view social justices as a right, also value people above profits.

The notion of justice is existence of proper balance of rights and its access under the laws of land. It refers to not depriving any person from availing privileges, opportunities etc. John Rawls writes, "Each person possesses an inviolability founded on justice that even the welfare of society as a whole cannot override"It means that the interaction in a society must be free from any sort of discrimination such as religion, race, color, caste or sex. It ensures fair distribution of assets and equal opportunity. José P. Laurel defines Social Justice as “Social justice is neither communism, nor despotism, nor atomism, nor anarchy, but the humanization of laws and the equalization of social and economic forces by the state so that justice in its rational and objectively secular conception may at least be approximated.”

Social justice helps us in creating human interactions in society and social institutions. These institutions can provide us with what is good for the person and for our associations with others. This happens so long as our institutions are

Social sciences and social justice are both based on the structure of rights. Our rights were designed to create equality for all. However, there are always outliers in our justice system and these outliers can be seen by all. My background and demographic are aggressively average growing up in a small, rural community with little diversity which has affected my views about justice. The class Social Problems and Social Injustice has aggressively opened my eyes to new statistics about society and has made some of my intuitions validated and destroyed some of my prior views. My new understanding of social justice is that is was created for all by excluding some. Justice is the structure of our institutions and society.

Social justice is mutually a practice and a goal. The goal of social justice is complete and equal contribution by all people in a society that is equally designed to meet their needs. Social justice allows for all members of society to be physically and psychologically safe and secure. It is a set of values that allow us to understand what is right and wrong in our world regardless of race, culture and economic status. That we take care of those in need of help, so that they can take care of themselves. Social justice allows equal rights and opportunities to everyone in society.
