Social Conflict Theory Paper

Decent Essays

Social conflict theory sees social life as a race and centers on the allocation of resources, power, and inequality. Social conflict theory is a Marxist-based social theory which argues that individuals and groups (social classes) within society interact based on conflict rather than consensus. More powerful groups will tend to use their power in order to retain power and exploit groups with less power (Butler, 1991; Payne, 2015). According to conflict theory, those with wealth and power try to hold on to it by any means possible, chiefly by suppressing the poor and powerless (Collins, 1990). Moreover, the theory revolves around concepts of social inequality in the division of resources and focuses on the conflicts that exist between classes.
