Many believe that pentagram and pentacle are interchangeable. However in my opinion they are two separate symbols. These symbols have been in use for thousands of years. Though they are not always religious in nature. Pentagram comes from the greek words “pente” which means five and “gramma” the greek word meaning “to draw, something written, letter or character.” This is a single line drawing that is in the shape of a five-pointed star. When drawn out it also has a pentagon in the center of the start. Pentacle is from the medieval latin word “pentaculum.” It’s a combination of greek “pente” meaning five, and a latin “culun” a suffix. French “pentacol” means amulet worn around the neck.
