I think that to be a successful entrepreneur one should constantly innovate and be creative. To be able to do that, learning should be a continuous process.According to Mount, debate on whether entrepreneurs are born or made can heat up pretty soon. He mentioned about Bills Gates children launching their own businesses in the future as exposure to the business world seems to have an effect on ones decision in venturing into their family business. However, Mount cited accounts about educators believing that entrepreneurship skills can be taught. (Source: Are entrepreneurs born or made? by Ian Mount (2009) Retrieved: 14February2015 from: http://money.cnn.com/2009/12/09/smallbusiness/entrepreneurs_born_not_made.fsb/). We are not a family of businessmen, my father was a government employee and my mother - a plain housewife. I never knew of any ancestors engaged in businesses aside from the being a farmer - during harvest time they would trade crops with other harvest from their fellow farmers. This barter kind of transaction only happens when harvest is more than what the family can consume, this is the only business I could recall from the stories of my parents during our early childhood years. According to business dictionary, a business is an organization or economic system where goods and services are …show more content…
At the moment I lack knowledge about this kind of business but as mentioned previously, this can be learned. Proper training and constantly being updated about furniture trends can be an edge. I believe that this has a wide market given the booming real estate industry that we have now. A power house can never be a power house without a furniture that would match the intricate architectural design of the house. Second would be a coffee shop, I am a coffee person, all my friends loves coffee and we have a lot coffee farmers we can support by getting coffee beans from them. The third one would be a textile and printing business. The idea is having a shirt brand with witty and unique prints that would cater to all demographics. Specialized shirt for any occasions – can be birthdays, debut, reunion or any celebration one can think
Entrepreneurship is a term that has reentered the public vernacular over the last few years, many times in reference to what is wrong with America but what it means is rarely defined. Furthermore, it is generally agreed that more Entrepreneurship is a desirable trait but how to go about encouraging it is again a point of contention. This paper will address a specific facet of entrepreneurship and attempt to discover what are the key drivers to foster an entrepreneurial spirit from childhood.
Sobel (2008), an entrepreneur is “someone who organizes, manages, and assumes the risks of a business or enterprise. An entrepreneur is an agent of change”. Sometimes becoming a successful entrepreneur is not about whether or not you have your M.B.A, it’s about your willingness to dedicate part of your life, money, and everything else to fulfilling your dreams. As Sobel’s definition includes the word “manages”, many entrepreneurs do have an advanced degree in some form of business to provide them with the knowledge to successfully manage their company. This provides them with the ability to handle their own payroll, accounts payable and receivable, and human resources. Entrepreneurs have many risks involved when beginning their company, such as: not succeeding, running out of money, or having to relocate. These risks were more common years ago when investors were not so easy to find and money was not so loosely handed out. Today’s entrepreneurs can usually fund themselves or have plenty of support from individual or group of investors. However, no matter the monetary support you have, an entrepreneur must make their company appeal to the public or their targeted group of customers. A successful entrepreneur cannot give up when things get tough, they have to accept what happened, provide a solution, and move
Have you ever wondered who thought about the idea of creating a multinational retail corporation here in America called Wal-Mart? Sam Walton - founder of Wal-Mart was behind that idea. Sam Walton is an example of great entrepreneur who wanted to make his business successful. An entrepreneur needs a variety of skills but does not need to have a formal education. Being an entrepreneur is challenging even if an individual is well educated on the field or has no education at all. There is always the risk conducting business because of the competition with other companies. However, what does an entrepreneur do? Do you have what it takes to be on top the business world and compete ? An entrepreneur must have is a guide to start and run a business even if it is a big or small business.
that takes the risk in order to succeed. They are also the ones that boost and help the economy of a country. Last Friday, our teacher has invited guests to talk about being an entrepreneur. I learned many things and I was able to know how entrepreneur does things. The first speakers were Miss Archelle Ferrandiz and Arabelle Santamaria from Miriam College. They came up with a non-food business named Inabel that supports the dying industry of weaving. Sadly, Inabel was stopped because their other partners don’t have the same vision like they do. They stopped contributing ideas because they are not gaining money. According to Miss Archelle Ferrandiz, sometimes it is not only about gaining money it is also giving back to others. The way I think about on how business works were changed. Now, business for me is not all about money but being happy on what your business does to people around you. She said that we should be risk-takers in doing business. It simply means that we believe in our vision that it will hit the market. If ever the business fails, we will able to know what went wrong and with that if we start a business again the chance of falling again is decreased because we have the advantage of knowing what could possibly went wrong. She also quoted a quote from Martin Luther King “IF YOU CAN’T FLY THEN RUN, IF YOU CAN’T RUN THEN WALK, IF YOU CAN’T WALK THEN CRAWL, BUT WHATEVER YOU DO YOU HAVE TO KEEP
I have always been interested in “doing my own thing” or, better known as, entrepreneurship. In high school, I would buy T-shirts, sweatshirts, and hats in bulk. I’d embroider little emblems on them and mark up the price by 100%. People at school would buy $1 shirts and pay $9 for my craftsmanship. However, I wanted bigger and better things. I channeled Andrew Carnegie in my approach to business: why just stop at my little venture when I could vertically integrate and market for myself? I decided to invest all my money in a new cause and thus, my own social media marketing company was born. The skills I’ve learned in starting my company is something that cannot be taught. I would relish the opportunity to grow and learn at an institution like The Stephen M. Ross School of Business that understands the importance of innovation and exploration.
Dr. Peter Watt, a professor at York St. John University, says that “one reason entrepreneurs drop out is the basic narrative as a restatement of Alger’s ‘rags-to-riches’ paradigm, [which] can be conceptualized, in its most simple form, as a narrative of ‘overcoming’ ” (Watt 35). In other words, entrepreneurs feel motivated to succeed more when they get the feeling of overcoming some form of adversity, such as dropping out. Similarly, Professor William Nickels asserts that being a successful entrepreneur is based more off of “personality.” According to Nickels, “You [aspiring entrepreneur] can learn about managerial and leadership skills needed to run a firm. However, you may not have the personality to assume the risks… [S]uch personality traits are harder to learn or acquire than academic skills” (Nichols 154). Essentially, Nickels position is that “to be a successful entrepreneur one must have entrepreneurial personality, be self-directed, self-nurtured, be action-oriented, energetic, and tolerant of uncertainty.” (Nickels et. al 154). Ironically, Nickels is a college professor who is telling this to his students. Perhaps he holds these views because some of his previous students who excelled in the course work, were not successful entrepreneurs. If personality traits dictates entrepreneurial skills, then does this attitude explain why
Starting a business is the latest trend. Just take a look at Instagram. Several profiles have the caption ‘Entrepreneur’. At this very moment, there is someone, somewhere working on an idea, a business plan or launching a startup. Entrepreneurship is on the rise like never before. The flexibility and independence that comes with being one’s own boss is attractive and worth taking the leap in starting a business. However, most people don’t know that being an entrepreneur is a grueling journey that can be very lonely and stressful at times. According to the Small Business Administration (SBA), 50% of businesses fail during the first year. Starting a business can be a scary task, but the
Entrepreneurship is difficult to define throughout its history research. Even nowadays, this concept is still a debatable point (Rajendra, et al., 2017). Based on four decades of research, Gartner (1988) concludes that entrepreneurs are founders of new firms. Shane and Venkataraman (2000) consider entrepreneurship as “a new venture’s risk-taking endeavor seeking an opportunity” and Fortunato (2014) adds innovative value into the concept of entrepreneurship. Thus, research on the definition of entrepreneurship continue. According to those diverse views, I will interpret six unique entrepreneurial characteristics and theoretically analyze each one. Risk taker, need for achievement and proactivity as my strengthens will be illustrated with my experience. Innovativeness, internal locus of control and tolerance for ambiguity are my weaknesses, thus I will describe relevant successful Entrepreneurs’ experiences.
even went out of their way for the employees as well they gave out money
At the beginning of the course I had only had basic entrepreneur knowledge, I understood the traits, and the amount of thought put into a business. I understood a entrepreneur needed to be able to set goals and had to establish connections and business partners. I was actually lucky enough to have taken a entrepreneur class in highschool. Which taught me lots on how an entrepreneur business is started. It also taught me the required determination and hard work it takes to be a entrepreneur.
“Working for a business or starting a new one “is a debatable issue that has been raging for many decades, with no end in sight. In the simplest form some people don’t prefer to be controlled by someone or routine work and some others can accept that! They don’t prefer to take a risk of starting their own businesses. Opposers suggest that you 'll actually consider the beginning of your startup to a greater extent a side interest than a living, and you 'll be less inspired to sustain it to realization. Instead of being inspired by the swim-or-sink nature of small size business, your well-being net will keep you from completely rationally putting resources into your undertaking. Taking work at your beginning can likewise negatively affect your execution at your full-time job. In the case that you find yourself occupied with new thoughts or staying up throughout the night to finish some tasks at some feature of the business, you won 't have the capacity to give your full thoughtfulness regarding your occupation. In the end, your bosses will see, and you could end up losing your well-being net out and out. Alternately, on the off chance that you can juggle both enterprise and a full-time work, your family and individual lives might endure. All things considered, if your just time to deal with your side business is on weeknights and weekends, when will you invest energy with loved ones? It 's a noteworthy weight to tackle both without a moment 's delay. Numerous individuals
Engineers, self-made entrepreneurs and bootstrap enthusiasts believe that the right person with the right work ethic can succeed in business with a good idea activated at the right time. However, in today's complex, collaborative and highly technical business environment, a degree in business--or at least some strong business courses--can give you the knowledge and tools to handle a startup like a pro and reduce the learning curve that always appears in any business startup.
Dyer, Gregersen & Christensen (2009, p. 66) found that nurture rather than nature was the key to developing innovative skills. An alpha entrepreneur is a business person who has been able to hone five essential “discovery skills” (Dyer, Gregersen, & Christensen, 2009, p. 62). An employee is not an entrepreneur, though they can exhibit entrepreneurial behaviors. An entrepreneur is self-employed. The reward of entrepreneurship is profit, not wages or salaries. The business does not owe the entrepreneur anything for all their hard labor, and there is a downside that you can lose all of your investment and make losses. An innovator

An Entrepreneur is someone who is creative and innovative and identifies a business opportunity or gap in the market for a new or adapted product or service. The importance of an entrepreneurial business at all levels is essential to a country’s economic development as well as wealth and employment creation within a country. To a large extent this is dependent on the entrepreneur who applies certain talents, skills and expertise in the start-up, development and growth of businesses. Entrepreneurial development is the origin of successful entrepreneurial activity, and although some entrepreneurs are born, it is possible to develop individuals into becoming entrepreneurs.
