Short Story About The Haunted House

“In the year of 1989, there was a street named Elm, in the state of Wyoming. Few chose to live on that street, and they all knew about the haunted house, up on the hill, on the west side of town, coming off of Elm. Once, I spent the week with some friends and, Halloween came upon us, while I stayed with them.” I was telling my first-grade brother and his friends stories to scare them out of their wits. Besides, no one wants little kids tagging along with you to go trick or treating, when you could go with your friends to Haunted Houses, and not ones set up by the town hall. “We were just about to pass the house, not thinking anything of it, when we heard a moan coming from Old Man Reaper’s house.” Their eyes grew wide with fear. Is that you, Jonesy? I asked because he usually had the longest stride, slowest run, and loudest footsteps. Nope, he replied. Then they stopped.” I look at their faces and Mom screamed: “DINNER’S READY!” We all ran to the kitchen and got our plates piled with homemade pizza. “Continue the story!” one of my brother’s friends shouted. “Let’s finish eating,” I said. “Darn!” all the boys said in unison. We all immediately started laughing. We sat around and finished off all of the pizza. We all went back into the living room, except me. I hung around to make sure my brother had his costume on right and it looked scary enough. He looked amazingly creepy. I ran to my little brother and jumped onto the couch beside him. “So we all rummaged about in our bags for our flashlights, and when we turned them on, there was a black cat staring straight at us, with red, glowing eyes.” The boys all gasped. “We jumped but didn’t make any noise for fear of someone hearing us. We started to go up the stairs but decided to make sure we all stayed together in case of an emergency. We started to tiptoe through the house and look into all of the rooms. Suddenly, a door opened behind us, and a tall, toothpick looking man came out and had a round white face, two dots for a nose, and a thin smile, like the one you would see on the face of a murderer behind his next victim, waiting to strike.
