Within this paper, I will discuss my self-identity as a person and a future counselor. I have always viewed myself as an eclectic and accepting person. I welcome others of different backgrounds openly, and I am genuinely curious about their cultures and beliefs. I have always loved learning. I have always viewed myself as being a very independent, spiritual and giving person. My values are similar to most people in my family. I believe in working hard, being honest and being a humanitarian. I feel that although I grew up rather poor, I was always taken care of and my parents ensured I had everything I needed. As sad as it is to say, I feel that being a white female has helped me more then hindered me in life. Now that I am an adult, I have realized how much others are chastised for their skin color or religious beliefs. For example, while I was in the UK recently, I was …show more content…
Also, I feel that traveling is a wonderful way to help become a more well-rounded individual. I have always loved traveling and I feel that traveling to a new place and immersing yourself in the culture is a wonderful way to grow as an individual and become more in tune with who you are. I feel that culture is a forever-changing aspect of your personality. With each trip I take, I feel that I change a little bit for the better. Travel gives me a sense of serenity and it makes me feel better in touch with my own feelings. Next month there is a conference that teaches about suicide prevention and inmates within the Dept of Corrections. I plan on attending this conferences if I am able so that I can use them as a learning experience. Also, I am planning a small trip in January to Northern Illinois to one of the monasteries. I visited this monastery whenever I was 20 and I have always wanted to revisit it to better understand the way of
Traveling can be enjoyable and frightening at the same time. Being from Honduras, my family would travel back in forth from the U.S. to Honduras every summer. Being able to experience living in two different cultures was a good experience and allowed for a more understanding approach of different societies and how the identity of the people living in those Society’s is unique.
Another thing that also got me interested in traveling and experiencing new things is my imagination. The thoughts and wonders that went through my head about the rest of the world and not just my little town made me most interested in traveling and seeing the different cultures and lives of others. My imagination was wandering most when i was on my international flight on the was to Costa Rica because I didn't really know what to
Throwing oneself into an entirely different culture for a few weeks a year, is one of the most intellectually gratifying things I have come to experience. It exposed me to the fact that there is more to life than meets the eye. Accepting its complexity is almost as important as understanding what makes it complex. My visits to Poland have opened my one dimensional mindset, and allowed for more complicated reasoning. Traveling also forces an individual into strange situations they are unaccustomed to, and shows that not everything can be learned in a classroom. It teaches politics, economy, history, geography and less general things such as the ability to explore, grow, and make mistakes. They are left with the satisfaction of doing things they never knew they could
“For A More Creative Brain, Travel” by Brent Kane correctly portrays the idea that traveling allows you to be a more creative and opened-minded person. This article shows ample evidence of why travelling
Travel provides for a greater examination of not only the culture of the place you visit but also of your self. Travel offers many different aspects that one would not necessarily find staying in a well known place. This could include trying new foods, learning about cultures, experiencing traditional music and dance, and countless others as well. Visiting other places encourages people to educate and learn more about it themselves. Also experiencing different cultures can lead to a stronger knowledge and a desiring of visiting more.
Traveling not only affords one with a break from everyday life, but with the opportunity to grow intellectually as a person. I am one of the lucky individuals who can say that they have visited every continent excluding Antarctica. Traveling often broadens my perspective of what humanity truly is, and of what responsibilities human beings have to their respective communities. Each travel destination played its respective roll in shaping my spiritual beliefs, and I can honestly say I would not be the person I am today without the experiences I have had in the different corners of the world. Though each destination offers its own adventure, no other place shifted my perception of not only myself, but humanity quite like Egypt.
Traveling could change your ability of thinking differently. Especially when we are sitting with friends, we can share our travel experiences also travel can help you relieve stress in the following ways: meet new people, new culture and new life style perhaps totally different than yours. And if you plan on open new business, it’s a perfect way to
It was the first day of my summer job as a counselor in training with the local recreation department and I was tasked with organizing and leading activities for the young campers. As I was putting on my green staff shirt and lanyard, I asked myself, “Why would these kids ever listen to me?” After all, I walked by the elementary school every day on my way to high school, and they were a rowdy bunch, arguing with each other and ignoring the adults in charge. Still, I tried to push these thoughts out of my head and walked up the hills towards the camp. When I finally arrived, I paused and felt my anxiety start to come back, but I took a deep breath and went through the door. As soon as I entered, I hesitated. There were kids everywhere. There
Seneca once noted that “Travel and change of place impart new vigor to the mind.” To me, that sums up study abroad beautifully. To study abroad means to experience not just new foods and sights, but different ways of learning and comprehending. Mark Twain said that “Travel is fatal to prejudice, bigotry, and narrow-mindedness.” In order to be successful in any field, it is important to devoid one’s self of these vices. What better way than to jump feet first into a completely different culture?
When it comes to traveling, I have to say my favorite part about it is the ocean and being of the beach. When I'm there I always feel a sense of relaxation and calm. It even helps me clear my head when I need to write. I mean,
I am a camp counselor at a local college near my hometown. As a counselor, one of my responsibilities is aid and assist the teachers throughout their classroom lesson. One of the teachers, Rory, saw that I was really attentive to the children and thought that I was a dependable person who also got a task done, and done right. At the end of every week, the teacher’s job was to fill out an evaluation form. This form was to be seen by both supervisors and the co-directors of the program. Not only did Rory fill out the paper and give me high marks, also took the time to write and elaborate, thoughtful note on the back of the sheet.
For the first 10 years of my life, living in a small town in Kansas was all I knew. That was, until my father decided he was being called to join the military. Our first duty station in Japan was a complete turn-around from land-locked Kansas. We went from flowing fields of grain to beautiful, blue oceans. Through this, I was able to experience different culture and living-styles. I believe that should you have the opportunity to travel, you should jump at the chance. Whether it’s on a road trip across the country, or flying over the ocean, wherever you go, you are sure to find diversity among people. I believe whole-heartedly that in seeing new cultures, you can grow exponentially more than if you never left your home town. Traveling and
Travelling is important as it can remove the unintended prejudice that individuals carry out rashly. Sometimes, people unconsciously treat others differently solely based on their own beliefs. Since their judgement is based only on opinion, therefore it may be inaccurate to use when addressing the persons around them. However, exploring the world may lessen your tendency to be prejudice as you will gain detailed insights to the way others think, the way others see, and the way others live. Thus, this will allow you to not make foolhardy assumptions when being in contact with a society or community as you will be more knowledgeable to understand why they are the way they are. Removing prejudice from our lifestyle is very important to us as open-thinkers as we often make many mistakes in the treatment of other human beings. Prejudice is an undesirable trait to possess because
“All travel has its advantages. If the passenger visits better countries, he may learn to improve his own. And if fortune carries him to worse, he may learn to enjoy it” (Samuel Johnson, 1791). Traveling is wonderful in many ways, it lets us open our mind to new things and we get to experience life in exciting ways. Our wanderlust makes us long for more destinations to visit, cultures to explore, histories to learn, foods to eat, and people to meet. As amazing as traveling is, most of us think we need to wait until our later years to really explore a lot of the world. For college students, it is important to go on a longer traveling adventure after graduating. While traveling involves researching the destination to learn about the culture and to avoid bad situations, it is well worth it because it provides useful experiences for college graduates to better adjust them to an independent lifestyle. Overall, there are lots of benefits of traveling,
My father is a proud vintner of the United States Army who dictated twenty five years of his life severing our country. Growing up as a child, and not understand that life was so subjected to changes. I remember asking my father why we have to move from place to place; having to deal with going to new school making new friends all over again, and leaving old ones behind was not a pleasant feeling to me. My father informed me that travel broadens the mind. As me now developing into young adult who enjoys traveling whenever fined to time
