Before I begin, I would thank you for your time and patience to listen to my speech about “Where Are My Roots Of Optimism.”
Optimism is the key to overcome obstacles in life. Just ask the owner of Zara, Amancio Ortega. Even if he dropped high school, he remained optimistic and went on to become the impossible, Amancio Ortega has become one of the richest people ever, with a net worth of more than $70 billion. Amancio would be the people to tell you optimism is huge in getting through all that life is throwing at you.
Their many ways optimism helps you overcome obstacles is it makes you believe that you can accomplish anything. No matter how difficult the task may seem, optimism makes you believe you can achieve it. Optimists believe that
In the words of Winston Churchill, "The pessimist sees difficulty in every opportunity. The optimist sees the opportunity in every difficulty." When we are optimistic that we can get a job done, or that we can find a cure for a disease, we are more motivated, and we work harder. A scientist who is pessimistic that they will never find a cure for a specific disease will have a mental mind block against finding a cure for a disease, making it considerably harder for them to find a cure. However, a scientist who is optimistic about finding a cure for a disease will be motivated and more focused on their dedication to discovering a cure for a disease such as cancer. When you are optimistic, you are more motivated, and when you are motivated, you are more productive, consequently making optimism a particularly important priority in everyday
In the same way that hope has colored the past, optimism and positive thinking has the ability to affect present situations. When enduring struggles or facing fears, hope can provide feelings of comfort. It can be used as a coping mechanism. Maya Angelou relates a tone of satisfaction when she weighs the conditions of her life
“Optimism claims everything will be all right despite reality. Hope accepts reality, the poverty of spirit that underlies all fear, instigates all tragedies, bureaucracy and institutional inertia” (“Optimism”). Optimism ignores the external reality and believes whatever the situation is, the outcome will always be positive. Optimism can be said as the way of thinking or the perception of people. “Hope, on the other hand, doesn’t ignore external realities; it simply knows the human heart’s capacity to withstand those realities, and it trusts in the inexhaustible power of our hearts to choose love over fear (“Optimism”). Hope comes from the heart and encourages one to believe that the situation will get
Chasing optimism in the face of challenges is a requirement that mankind must conform to in order to live a fulfilled life. Studies prove that optimists tend to have the best attitudes through the hardships they face no matter how severe. Even when in the face of challenges, being optimistic will lead you to be more successful in every aspect. Not only will you be more successful mentally, optimists have a much higher chance of being successful physically and in life. This essay will outline the why you must always chase optimism even in challenges face. 96
An article written by Kendra Cherry states, “By nurturing positive emotions, even in the face of terrible events, people can reap both short-term and long-term rewards, including managing stress levels, lessening depression, and building coping skills that will serve them well in the future” (Cherry). Optimism has allowed for people to deal with conflicts in a healthy way. Neuroscientist Tali Sharot in her book The Science of Optimism: Why We’re Hard-Wired for Hope argues that optimism provides an adaptive advantage. According to her, “Expecting our future to be good reduces stress and anxiety, which is good for our health. Researchers studying heart attack patients have found that optimists were more likely than nonoptimistic patients to take vitamins, eat low-fat diets, and exercise, thereby reducing their overall coronary risk” (Popova). Dealing with conflicts positively is better for your health and it decreases bad health
Optimism can mean the difference in a patient’s outlook. The first example is when I walked onto the unit one day; a family member approached me and told me that it was nice to see a smiling face. That meant a lot to me. Patients and their families both experience hardships and emotional changes when someone is sick or hurt. Leading me to the next example, being optimistic when my patients fear that they may not return to their former state of independence and acknowledging their concerns. Many patients have these valid fears, and being the positive outlook instead of agreeing with them sometimes helps get them to the finish line.
2. In the context of character qualities, optimism means A. Putting on rose-colored glasses and ignoring problems B. Looking for the best in every situation but always having a
Many believe that you can only be optimistic if you are successful, as good things happening to you can cause a better mood. However, Seligman believed the opposite. He thought that having an optimistic outlook creates success. Things cannot go well for you if you always think on the bad side of things, therefore, if you are more optimistic, you will be able to bounce back faster from hardship and be more able to become successful once again. However, pessimism can also be learned. If a person believes that everything bad that happens is their fault, they will become more pessimistic and unwilling to try new things, as they believe they will mess up. This thought can be taught in young children. Often, children who are abused or bullied at a young age can develop a pessimistic outlook as they are told that bad events are their
The optimism bias pushes people towards positive change because most people want positive change and according to Tali Sharot to make changes in our life we must believe that the changes are possible. Even rather pessimistic people want to change there for they believe it is possible. When a person believes in change and anticipates the change it releases serotonin in the brain and brings about a happy feeling, there for improving their overall wellbeing.
Mitigating the optimism bias would be beneficial when facing a financial crisis;the person might be negligent to the severity of the situation and rely on the hope that everything will unfold itself. By leveling down the optimism bias, the person will be able to think without clouding judgement and exert clarity and intelligence in the progression of settling their finances. However, this could very well be their down fall, by minimizing optimism bias too far gone it can lead them to give up because they see no light at the end of the tunnel, they simply prepare to face the worst scenario possible. When competing one is advised to "not get too cocky" , that is due to the allusion that toning down your optimism bias that you always win,
Lastly, the optimism of this character made him to reach places where courage is necessary in order to obtain the goals. At the end of this book, this young adult reaches all his goals. One of his ambitions is to be able to pass the math exam in order to go to university and live a more independent life. Which in the end he is able to achieve because of his hard work and dedication. Another of his goals, is to be a detective and find out who murdered his neighbor's dog and he gets it, even with very few clues his optimism led him to the truth. His optimism also led him not to sink into the lifestyle that his parent is in, a family that is completely broken. In addition, this young man is very optimistic to be practically by his own having
Being optimistic is the main principle for most people. We may often hear the statement about “be an optimist, not a pessimist!” shouted by people. Sometimes you do it for yourself too. When facing such a failure or problem, this will not only help to relieve your heart. Being optimistic will help someone to be healthy in physical and mental. An optimist will find the best way in any circumstance and hope for every good thing can come to him/her. You may have gone through thousands of hard times. However, if you are a born optimist then you will not care of anything destructing you.
It is in human nature to work and live together with other people and to give a part of ourselves to the others around us. Optimism is very important here because an optimist tries to make the world a better place by making the people better people. Optimists help everyone in their community as much as they can in every possible way. Sometimes people just need to hear some good words and that is what optimists are great at. You have probably heard the story about the one bad apple that turned all the good apples bad. Optimism is the exact opposite because one optimist has the power to make all the people around him or her to see life from a positive point of view. This is one of my favorite things about optimism because optimists do not only help themselves, they help the world. And by helping the world they help themselves because the people that you once helped will help you achieve your
Another application in which an optimistic attitude has proven to be very beneficial has been in academics. Notably, there have been classes in which assignments were difficult for me and led to less than sufficient grades. Even though I was disappointed with my poor performance, I always stayed optimistic about bringing the grades back up. The one time that stood out among
*Optimism can change your perspective on life. If before, you had a pessimistic outlook, believing that everything you do just goes to waste, having optimism can make you a more productive and happier person, benefiting yourself, your family, and your community.
