Adnan does deserve a retrial; a retrial would allow all of the evidence to be brought up again, and a new trial would occur. The investigation would be looked at again, the witnesses, and community members would be contacted again. This retrial would be a fresh start. However, the chances of Adnan getting a retrial are slim. The Fifth Amendment does protect people from double jeopardy. Double jeopardy is being tried for the same case twice; the amendment states that there will not be another trial for the same case, unless new evidence has come up. In Adnan’s case, there hasn’t been any new evidence, and too much time has passed that the old evidence is gone, the witnesses’ memory of the time period are no longer reliable, Adnan has lost touch …show more content…
Koenig describes how the investigation was not done quite right. For instance, the map book that was in Hae’s car had a partial fingerprint of Adnan’s finger on it. But the investigators never looked for anyone else’s fingerprints. Or they pulled the phone tower records that went along with Jay’s inconsistent story. Even though those phone tower records went along better with Adnan’s story. If the investigators used those phone records to work with Adnan’s story, then Jay would be more of a suspect then Adnan. Those phone calls also show that only one call was made to Adnan’s friend, the rest were made to Jay’s friends. This would also make Jay more of a suspect, because it would show how Jay could be coercing with different people in order to execute the murder of Hae and then hide her body. But the one phone call to Adnan’s friend is suspicious too, it was too long to be an accidental butt dial, but if Adnan is innocent then there was no reason to call his friend out of the blue. Another crucial piece of evidence that might have been overlooked in the time line, it is thought that the murder was committed right after school in a 20 minute time period. These 20 minutes include getting out of school, driving to the Best Buy, killing Hae, call Jay, moving the body, and get to track practice. Koenig followed the timeline, and showed how it was not possible. The prosecution presented this timeline, but no official ever tested it out to see if it was possible. Retracing these steps could have changed the outcome of the
Most people don’t think adnan is guilty since there isn’t enough evidence . When you start to look at all the evidence and all the stories that were told it all truly comes back onto adnan. Adnan is guilty for the crime he did because he can’t recall where he was on current day, every speech he has given it falls back on him, and most of all adnan is in every evidence that anyone gives.
Proving whether or not someone is innocent or guilty is a difficult task. That's why we rely on court hearings, lawyers, judges and unbiased jury members to help decide whether a person is guilty or innocent of crime. In the court of law, Every person is presumed innocent until proven guilty. On January 13th, 1999, Adnan Syed supposedly murdered his 18 year old ex-girlfriend Hae Min Lee by manual strangulation. Hae Min Lee’s body was found in Leakin Park located in Baltimore City Maryland. On February 25, 2000 Adnan Syed was sentenced to life in prison plus 30 years, for the murder of Hae Min Lee. During the trial, Jay Wilds testimony became the sole focus of the investigation and eventually the conviction. 15 years later, extensive
I believe that Adnan Syed is innocent for various reasons, for instance, every time Jay would meet with officials, his story would change, and the inconsistences with the cell phone records, for instance, during that time, the two calls placed Adnan Syed to Leakin Park, however, the two calls were incoming and it made it difficult to decide the location. I think that Jay Wilds needs to be observed more and the investigations needs to be re-examined because there are a lot of conflict and contradictions that are misleading. Serial contradicts before and with the law because the justice system didn’t grant the same equal rights to Adnan as they did with Jay. For example, I believe the officials involved in the case didn’t allow Adnan to give
Adnan also has a witness for after school that day. Asia McClain saw Adnan in the library after school, when he was supposedly killing Hae. Asia wrote a letter to Adnan explaining that she saw him in the library and so did her boyfriend and his friend. The police and even Adnan’s lawyer did nothing with this evidence that could have made this
The murder of Hae Min Lee was a mind twisting case. When listening to the podcast, you are left to wonder about who is guilty and who is innocent. With all of the evidence in this case, I am left to believe Adnan Syed is innocent. There are many facts that lead people to believe that he is guilty. However, some of the evidence doesn’t line up. Adnan has an alibi, the crime doesn’t fit the time frame that he had, and Jay had inconsistencies in his stories about Adnan, so the question is was he actually telling the truth. Adnan doesn’t remember very much about the day of Hae’s murder, and if he actually did commit the crime, you would remember that day perfectly.
As previously stated Adnan is clearly making himself guilty by his actions post-trial but what was not mentioned are his actions pre-murder. One very important thing is that was used for Adnan was the fact that many people believed him for a good person.”He was like the community's golden child.”(1) says Rabia. All of Adnan’s buddies praise him aside from Jay, they all talk about how they thought he was a good person and that he would never do any of this stuff yet the evidence is against him. According to his friends he is a good person and that they never would have taken him as a killer yet there is evidence of him doing drugs and passing murderous notes. The biggest issue is that Adnan is playing the good guy even though he is known to bad things and people are enforcing a fake fact. “His family didn't know that he actually drank, he smoked, he was having sex.”(1) says Saad. He’s stolen money, he does drugs, goes to clubs, and yet people take him for some sort of charity worker. The biggest evidence of a liar is when he has other people lie for him. Once he was called by the police and acted very nervously which is strange in a way. Sure it is okay to be curious, but if Adnan were innocent he would not have acted nervous if he had a clear conscience. Even if they were not calling about a murder it proves that Adnan has even more secrets to be hidden. During the Serial podcast Sarah Koenig frequently
The case of Adnan Syed became very popular. There are many people who know about this case. The trial convicted that Adnan had killed his ex-girlfriend. Many of Adnan’s friends believe that Adnan is not guilty. Also, many people who do not personally know Adnan and read the case about him, see he is not guilty. Other people see he might involve in the case, so he is guilty. There are many doubts about the court's decision to imprison Adnan lifetime. These doubts made this case a mystery case. Adnan may be not guilty if the jury, the prosecutor, and the detective give more importance to the case and focus deeply to take a right decision. There are many questions surrounding this mystery trial.

Jay was a friend of Adnan's. They'd been in school together since middle school. They weren't super close, but they had mutual friends. Jay sold weed, and he and Adnan smoked together. Jay testified that Adnan called Jay at 2:36 pm saying, “That bitch is dead. Come and get me. I'm at Best Buy”. The state used Jay’s story of what happened on the day Hae disappeared to prosecute Adnan. But Jay tells two different versions of the same story for each taped interview. Jay’s testimony was full of inconsistency. On the first interview jay said he refused to help Adnan dig a grace for Hae’s body. But on the second interview he said they both dug the grave. In the first taped interview, Jay says Adnan only told him that same day that he was going to kill Hae. The second interview, Jay says that Adnan had started talking about it for four or five days. On the first interview, Jay says Adnan asked him to pick Adnan up at Edmondson Avenue after killing Hae. But on the second interview, the location changed to Best Buy. Jay kept changing his story every time and there is no evidence to prove that he is right. So it is a little stupid of the State to prosecute Adnan based on only Jay’s testimony. But Jay did have one big piece of reliable information, he knew where Hae’s car was and took the police there. But for the second interview, Jay signs his initials to an official
After listening to the Serial podcast it's concluded as being a mystery. It actually is easy to determine that Adnan Sayed is guilty if you go over the facts. Firstly, Jay’s testimony is the most solid piece of evidence against Adnan. The podcast tries to discredit it. Theres the state’s argument that Adnan is a sociopath. There are people who say he was a nice guy. They don’t know Adnan personally and are likely being manipulated. Even if you assume he is guilty you would have to assume that Jay is lying and lots of other things. According to some simple logic, it’s clear he is guilty.
Although i believe is innocnet because theres really no good evidence against him, some may argue he is guilty because he was the ex boyfriend, and the story his friend jay told in court was reasonable and real in court. This reason makes sense the jury believed jay, and some of his story mathced the call logs from adnan phone. This part of the story is when jay told the derectives about that day. The day hae min lee was murdered. A qoute form the story is when say said ‘’he said he was gonna kill her” thats waht jay said in a interview with detectives. This proves he is guilty because the jay story mathced some of the call logs. And he had witnesses who suppoted and were with him. Therefore adnan is guilty because the jury eventually ended
What the State came up with is that Adnan had killed Hae sometime between 2:15 p.m. and 2:36 p.m. after school that same day. This gave Adnan a 21 minute time frame to leave school, kill Hae, and meet Jay back at Best Buy with traffic. This seems like an almost impossible trip due to how quick the murder was supposedly committed. Multiple people including Adnan have stated that Hae usually leaves school right away because she has to give her little cousin a ride home everyday, that is why when Hae didn't get her cousin on the day of her murder they called the police. Finally is while in Hae’s car if he had to drive it with the dead body in the trunk they would have found a fingerprint frenzy all over the steering wheel and trunk hood!
One of the reasons is the implausible witness they had covering for them which was Jay. Jay was Adnan's older friend with whom he always hung out with and did drugs with. Off the bat this does not seem like a credible source to believe if he was Adnan's weed man and got high with him. Jay was used as a witness because he states that Adnan called him up about killing Hae and he made him help bury her in Leakin Park. This proves just how faulty their source was and to add to that while being interviewed and investigated Jay was on edge and when asked about what happened and about the murder he lacked consistency and had a story that was always changing. He could not have put Adnan into jail if he couldn't give one real consistent story. He was changing his story and parts here and there which means his opinion cannot be valid as if he was just making up things as he would
Have you ever Wanted to see how a real crime is solved and How detective’s find a answer to their doubts? well this is a story of Adnan Syed and how he was found guilty for his ex-girlfriend's murder but yet the story turns as thing procced.
Retributive justice, described in its literal sense, is a criminal justice system based on punishing the offenders rather than rehabilitating them. This is a quality often seem within Victorian literature, considered to be the “socially acceptable ending”. The villains are imprisoned or die, often left to be suffering alone; the hero is rewarded with wealth and happiness. It gives the reader an impression of cosmic justice; everything will work out if you are a good person. This is comforting for a person who believes that they are a good person, regardless of whether or not they are in reality. For the Victorian time period, where people highly valued strong morals -- and which women were often considered the backbone for -- an ending with
