During 1812, being twelve years after the American Revolution had come to an end. The United States of America had found itself declaring yet another war with Great Britain. This declaration would further more break the strong and lengthy neutrality that the United States had been holding on to. The neutrality consisted of avoiding several wars with France and Britain. When James Madison had declared this war on Britain the Southern Democratic-Republicans had strongly defeated the Northern Federalists that opposed on this war that would soon be the War of 1812, taking place through 1812-1814. Canada, at the time had been ruled by Great Britain. In Document C, a Congressman of Virginia with name of John Randolph complains that the United States principal purpose to going war is to take over Canada. H explains that the United States leaders are rather selfish and greedy and how it seems to be the leading cause of going into war. According to the text in Document C it states, “…if you go to war it would not be for the sake of… Maritimes right” and, “… Canada seems to be their tempting sight.”. This explains that John thinks that all the United Sates only care is for more land. However, this statement is not very true. The United States did care about gaining more land but wasn’t the only matter that led Americans to declare the War of 1812. This would also play into National Pride being something proud American citizens can heroically boast and brag about. Because of the previous commander and chief, Thomas Jefferson releasing the Embargo Act of 1807, an act that halted all trade with Europe. Traders income was hitting rock bottom, in other words, plummeting severely because of large revenue from Europe. In Document A, a man complains about how halted trade with Britain is effecting the country over all and the details of a major complaint. According to the text in Document A it states, “Great Britain in defiance of incontestable right, captures every American vessel bound to, or returning from, a port where commerce is not favored; enslaves our men, and in spite of our complaints and protests and persevered aggressions”. This quote explains that majority of the country may have been complaining about this Act because the way he had described it seemed to be a major issue in the United States. Overall there seemed to be an issue with not receiving certain items meaning it would be very beneficial to end the Embargo Act in result of higher income and less suffering from American
